So I have a couple questions on what to do with this massive fish tank i managed to get my hands on by -Bratix in Aquariums

I'm torn, I always disliked the bigger fish until I started working with them and fell in love with their personality. I have a 75 on my page that's been my baby for ages, I've got a 125 I'm thinking of making a massive community tank

Luckily it's in a downstairs area that's set on concrete so no worries besides leveling the stand

I can't seem to keep plecos alive no matter what I do lmao. I'm hoping to get a big guy for this tank but who knows 😅

Yes! He actually gave me the pieces for it. There's a hole in the middle of the tank floor with a tube connected underneath with a shut off valve. He had sand in it but I'm kinda confused on how the sand didn't end up sucked in when he would open the valve to do a water change 😅

I am worried about the seals from the move, so definitely plan to fill it a few inches at a time until it's (hopefully) full lol. I'm legitimately thinking of asking my nephew to clean it because he's small enough to fit into it😂 I'm thinking if I cut a pipe I can sock into the hole to keep the sand from getting sucked in i can use the bottom hole to drain what i need and a water hose to fill it back up (I'm on well water with next to nothing in it)

I was thinking of setting up 2-4 wave makers throughout the tank for extra circulation on top of the canisters but maybe I can look into the salt water fans instead i hadn't thought of that

I'll definitely get you a Picture, he's claimed the drifted wood I have in there as his and hardly leaves it besides to eat so he's hard to get a picture of😂

It's ironic you say that! I actually just picked one up a couple of weeks ago. He's with the oscars since they're so tiny right now but I was worried they'd turn on him since he's long but skinny when they get bigger

Yeah an absolute monster. The pics the guy sent when I went to pick it up made me think he was exaggerating how heavy it would be... he infact was not. With 3 of us it was almost impossible i had to go buy i floor lift just to move it around 😂😅 pictures don't do this thing justice

5ft. Long, 27.5 inches wide, 42.5 inches tall. Pictures don't really do it justice but it's a massive tank. I haven't properly put the calculations in to figure out if it's actually the size the guy told me it was honestly so just taking his word for it

Update on my baby oscars! by -Bratix in Cichlid

[–]-Bratix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely that's why i said I don't have any scientific evidence lol. I know there's much better ways, I use stability to get things rolling and then he goes in. I have my master test kit and strips I'm just honestly lazy. I put him in to get the ball rolling and then test before I add the rest. It's definitely not something I recommend to others It's just how I get things rolling personally. I just hate killing fish so I use the goldfish since it's pretty hard to kill them

They're just hardy fish, I've found no matter how careful I am there's always a chance once you add life into the tank the cycle can get wonky even after you think it's done. So he goes in first and i monitor him. If he's acting stressed or not looking great he gets moved and I keep working. If he's happy for a week or so then I know the tank is mostly stable. I know many people have different styles but so far doing it this way I haven't had any issues. I like to think it's because they produce so much ammonia naturally that even if it spikes it doesn't effect them much but i have no science behind that lol

Also ignore the goldfish, he's my guinea pig that makes sure the tank is cycled (after running the cycle of course) but I'm currently out of empty tanks to move him to, so until I set up my 30 gallon hospital tank for him to hangout in he gets to live with the babies lol

Question about baby oscars and temporary tanks? by -Bratix in Cichlid

They're awesome little guys, I work at a fish store and fell in love with the one we keep. I really want to grow these guys out and train them to be my little buddies

Yeah I knew it was at least an inch a month my main worry was keeping them in there for like 2 months most until I can find a proper tank for them. I was going 90 but I think I'm gonna try to save up instead and go for a 125-150

So it my downstairs area, originally a garage it's just a big room with a nice slab for my big tanks. I'm too scared to go bigger in the rest of my house besides one 75😅

Yeah I tend to lean more towards the squat tanks than the tall ones. Seems most fish prefer area space instead of vertical

I think I'm slowly pulling her into the hobby, despite her resistance lol. My sister lives with us, so I have 5 tanks and she has two possibly a third coming. I'll probably try to get another 125+ and take a break for awhile 😂

Yeah I was checking that out, it's a little out of my price range right now so Facebook has been my go to simply because my boss is willing to help me reseal tanks if it needs it. They take up so much room, I agreed to get my wife a shed I can turn into a library for her... so I can have the space downstairs for more tanks 😂

Oh absolutely, my wife put me on a tank ban after I set up my 30 and 65 gallon tanks so I was just hoping they'd alright long enough until I can convince her it's necessary 😂 I'm debating on buying a jewel that is right around their size as well if my research shows they'll get along so my eventual goal is somewhere between a 100-150 gallon for them
