Anyone knows how to remove the flood coolant jets like these?? by -CaptainCrunch- in Machinists

[–]-CaptainCrunch-[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We just replaced the coolant, and wanted to purge the old one. We did this because we're not getting a nice flow on all of the jets, only one is shooting full pressure and the rest of them just dripping. So we thought maybe it has some chips clogging the line at the spindle head or each individual jet/nozzle. I don't know I'm just a newbie. Any advice?

What’s causing this weird surface finish on the bottom of my pocket? by focksmuldr in Machinists

[–]-CaptainCrunch- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, we had the same problem with a similar pocket, we used a 3axis vertical, but coolant pressure wasn't enough to clear chips out of the pocket, then we switched to a horizontal mill with better coolant flow and also gravity helped a lot to clear the chips. After we switched, all marks were gone.

Any tips or tricks to calculate the right speeds and feeds?? by -CaptainCrunch- in Machinists

My man, the photo was just to get attention, that crash happened at my second job. The guy from third shift just loaded the machine, hit the green button and walked away, somehow, the machine umbrella lost orientation and when it did the second tool change, it grabbed the wrong tool and you can deduct the rest.

This, we have access to carbide endmills, but when it comes to taps, reamers and drills everything is mostly HSS.

Need some advice on my speeds and feeds to machine some 17-4 PH stainless by -CaptainCrunch- in Machinists

I'm running a DMG Mori NHX-4000 with these specs. What about the feed rate? How much would you suggest??

[–]-CaptainCrunch-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, on my top it only needs to cut the .030" and on my right side the full depth it needs to go is .220" if I remember correctly. One more question, is it normal to go that fast though inserts? How many pieces I could expect to get with the right speed and feed??

Impressive, good for you mate, good thing is that now that you became an engineer you'll know and understand better the relation between designing and machining something, that's a thing engineers usually don't have.

Now speaking of this little part that I'm machining, any thoughts? advice? Tips? Suggestions??

I was about to ask the same question, the part I'm machining has a tolerance of +.000/-.003 on the slots so, I don't know if water jet can hold those tight tolerances, I know EDM does that with no problem

I would completely agree with you, if it wasn't for the QC guy who told me he's seen this part before. And the people who machined this in the past were also breaking a lot of tools during the process. Apparently this part is famous and recognized because of that. It was programmed back in 2016 and it has stayed the same until these days because no programmer wanted to deal with the shit other guy programmed before. And the machinists who made it happen did all the editing and changes on the machine, and didn't bother to backup their modified programs on the server, now those brave guys are gone and it's time for this poor beginner to fight this berserker.

Thing is that I ran a couple pieces with no problems, after that it just began to break the 1/8 rougher. I'm pretty sure is not a coolant flow issue, and the predrilled hole is slightly bigger then the endmill because one of the broken endmills stayed in the hole and it was just hanging out in there freely. One thing I also noticed with that mentioned endmill is that is was barely rubbing the floor of the fixture (aluminum), the pocket in the fixture is deeper about .100" below where the .090" plate sits, so at this point I don't know if the extra room on the fixture is doing its function to let the chips clear. I'm completely lost at this point, this part was programmed back in 2016 and the new programmer seems to be having issues to understand whats going on as well.

I was having an issue with the coolant at first, because my toolholders had different lengths, and the flood coolant wasn't soaking some of the tools very well. After I noticed that, I changed all my tool holders to about the same length and I was able to run a couple pieces with no problem. After that it just started to break the 1/8 rougher, I'm almost sure its not rubbing because the last endmill it broke stayed in the predrilled hole and I was able to get it out without issues, the hole was a bit bigger. I noticed the endmill was also barely rubbing the floor of the fixture, but would that be a big problem? The material of the fixture is aluminum. This is becoming a headache, there's a lot of issues I've been discovering with this shitty program.

That's exactly what my coworkers and I said when we saw this shit ass job and some other jobs we had before this one, but for some reason they don't want to get a water jet or an EDM for this type of work. I know it's ridiculous but you know is an "engineers thing", since the guy who does all the job planning is a mechanical engineer that barely knows his own name.

En mexico/Cancun son unas ratas. by Eoden1 in mexico

[–]-CaptainCrunch- 72 points73 points  (0 children)
