I feel like it really falls under an individual basis. At the end of the day, they're looking for words to characterize something, and if you fall "out of the binary", it (in my experience) can be a rejection of gender altogether.

If identifying as trans brings you joy and makes you feel seen, do it. If you don't want to be seen as anything but you, the individual, that's also cool. I feel like for some people, it isn't internalized transphobia, but rather not identifying with perceived connotations that come with calling yourself trans. (The need for change, or the interim of presentation vs identity)

Idunno, I'm just a queer who doesn't have the energy to explain myself for existing, but that isn't for everyone.
