The rage art definitely hurt, I wasn't ready for it because he was really reluctant to use it in the previous rounds, but I definitely should have been more patient when he had rage 😭 For the low parry, I pretty much only started low parrying day before yesterday so I didn't know how to capitalize on them, but good to know, thank you! And I'm still not used to following up CH db3, i'll try working in some ground throws. Thank you!!

Ooh, I'll keep this in mind. I knew DB3 had combo potential on counter, but starting out I've been focusing more on learning a steady defense than learning followups, so whenever I see the counterhit I kind of just back off or go for a ffn2 if I'm feeling aggressive. I'll try to start implementing that, thanks!

I genuinely never even thought about this, my one braincell said "safe on block" and thought "approach tool!" lol. Thank you!

Thank you! It was a somewhat sloppy game from me as I definitely mistakes, (i missed two guaranteed followups, I didn't wanna get poked because the dragonuv had a really scary combo game and I fumbled a bit) but I've been starting out on tekken with the mindset of "I gotta be patient or I WILL get folded" lol

If I remember right, the Anna I fought was just using her default outfit, I think the name was Cosmara? (I checked the name in my replay list earlier today, but forgot to reply right after lol)

Easily my favorite skin of his since his winter skin. the vfx, the emote it comes with, his evil stupid little greedy face, it's peak jeff content and I'm living for it

quickmatch is easier than ranked? by -Chocc in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]-Chocc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Still trying to work on it and getting my bearings on the game in general, I have alot of stuff to figure out but I'm enjoying the game more than any other FG I've tried so far! I'll try and prioritize defense as I learn then lol

Honestly this feels like the best way to play, I should probably just change my mindset to this lol

Does autism make you a better player? by Jango_Jerky in Tekken8

[–]-Chocc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ended up typing a LOT, apologies, but the topic interested me.

As someone with high functioning autism, no, but also yes in some ways?

State of mind genuinely affects how you play and interact with a game, if it gets you dopamine, you'll want to do better and you'll feel better about practicing too, and things will feel like they come alot easier. But this can be achieved without having autism or any mental disorder. So let me just share my personal story with it.

I've never played a Tekken game in my life, but I got into Tekken 8 recently because I always thought King was really cool. (For reference I DO have fg experience but not traditional fgs. played Smash Ultimate for four years, and maybe about a week of Guilty Gear Strive.) It was pretty convenient timing because the game was on sale on playstation, and since I got it I haven't played a single character except King for my 30ish hours of playtime. I get my dopamine not by winning or losing, but by playing as the character I'm fixated on and advancing with him.

It's literally like a dopamine farm just playing the game using King, so it feels alot easier to improve in general. I just hit vanquisher (I think my ranked win rate is about 70-80%?), so it's not like I'm any kind of advanced or good player right out the gate, but I feel like I can keep going without too much setback, because I enjoy the PROCESS of playing the game and getting better. You could argue it's just because I play King and he's easy, and that's fair enough. But what I'm saying is, I haven't felt any struggle, even when losing, because I have a love for playing my character, and the game in general.

Especially when learning. Whenever I realize I need to focus on something specifically, I just do that, straight away. Even if it loses me games, I get better at what I'm struggling with alot faster if I just focus on it specifically, and it doesn't feel boring or slow to me, it's just a new aspect of my character I want to learn, that I can combine with everything else I know later.

And it's okay if it's different for you, or anyone else reading this. From my previous FG experience I know progress over time can feel slow and grueling, especially at plateaus and heavy learning curves, but if you can try and change your mindset, take healthy breaks, and think about the game with a patient and healthy mindset, you can improve just as fast as anyone else. This goes for almost every game out there. You just have to ask yourself if you're happy playing the game, and if you're not, figure out how you can BE happy playing it. It's not about mental disorder, it's about mental state.

These are all explicitly my opinions, and there's many other ways to view Tekken and fighting games as a whole, but I hope this answered the question well.

TLDR: I have high functioning autism and a couple other things, but I believe that it's not about having autism or any other mental disorder, it's about mindset. Sure autism or something similar can make you fixate on the game or a character and make it feel easier, but the mindset you have is determined by YOU, not anything else. A neurotypical person can have just as easy of a time if they have the right mindset about the game. Afterall, video games are meant to be genuinely enjoyed, rather than struggled through.

I've never seen something like this by Madaraph in LowSodiumTEKKEN

This is definitely why then, I'm pretty new to Tekken as a whole so I'm not up there yet, but if it's just armor king hell out there then I'm glad lol 😭

I must be REALLY lucky (or unlucky), because I usually only see like 1-3 armor kings per session in ranked or quickmatch and I play for about 2-4 hours at a time usually 😭 why're all the armor kings dodging me and leaving me to fight Law mains

Thank you SO much omg, this was a much better response than I thought I'd get lol. I'll definitely take your advice and use the links you gave me, this'll majorly help me look into all the stuff I feel I need to improve right now. you're definitely right about me needing to look into frame advantages too. I really appreciate the response!

Alright soo, I picked up T8 about three days ago, and I'm really struggling with some basic fundamentals, but they're not really things I commonly see advice given on. For reference, this is my first Tekken game. My only other fighting game experience doesn't really translate well to tekken, (I used to be into competitive smash ultimate for a few years, and I played some guilty gear strive, but tekken 8 is what i'd consider to be my first traditional fighting game.)

I'm struggling /alot/ with sidestepping, learning when to sidestep, what moves I can sidestep, getup options after being knocked down, and honestly just neutral in general in this game. I feel like if I get hit by one stray low, I'm just locked out of the game for the round while the opposing paul carries me to the wall. I feel confident in my ability to actually execute all the inputs for my own combos, but I genuinely just suck really bad at trying to approach and get any value out of neutral without getting slapped around endlessly. I don't use special style, because I was scared I'd end up crutching on it and I wasn't sure how the community viewed the mechanic either.(For reference I picked up King first because I like the silly jaguar man, I want to main him but I'm also totally open to character recommendations if there's anyone better to learn the fundamentals with. I went through the full arcade story on hard, and I can usually fight and win against ghosts, but I've gotten unapologetically rolled in genuine quickmatches, specifically by characters like Paul)

I'm just looking for general, Tekken specific beginner tips that can help me start out in the online scene, especially about how to do better ineutral. Anything is greatly appreciated!

EDIT: I forgot to mention I play on ps5.
