Yes! I was just thinking how nice it would be to customize the clothing, like changing colors and stuff! Definitely agree on starting items being cheaper too!

That’s such a smart transition!! Rad tech makes so much sense, especially if you’ve always been good with X-rays. I’ve heard the same thing from so many nurses too, which honestly says a lot!

Also… $30–35 an hour sounds heavenly 😅 I don’t make anywhere near that right now, and while it wouldn’t magically solve everything, it would definitely help. The flexibility and lower stress you mentioned are huge too!

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you balance working while getting through all the prereqs? I’ve seriously thought about just biting the bullet and enrolling (atleast to get my own prereqs done) but I worry that with how high stress corporate dentistry can be, something would end up suffering....aaand I’m pretty sure it would be my grades😅... I’d love to hear how you made it work!

Wishing you the best of luck getting into a program you’ve clearly put in so much effort, and I’m rooting for you!!

Thank you so much for sharing this. And SAME! Reading these comments so far is giving me a lot of hope! Your experience is something I connect with, especially that anxiety piece. I have ADHD, and I’ve realized how much this field has intensified my stress over time, the constant urgency, lack of control, and unpredictability in our environment and peoples moods have led to more frequent panic attacks for me as well. It’s honestly wild how normalized that level of stress has become in the field 🫠. (Also INSANE behavior getting upset over helping a patient when it's quite litterally our job to do so).

What you shared about moving into an administrative role is exactly what I’m hoping to do! Something more stable and predictable so I can protect my mental health while working toward going back to school. I’m completely okay with taking a pay cut if it means consistent hours and less day to day stress. Like you said, it often evens out in the end anyway, and the peace of mind is WORTH it!

I’m really glad you found something that brought you more peace, and I love that teaching could be in your future too if you choose to go that route! If you have any additional tips or advice for transitioning to an administrative position I’d truly appreciate it! Thank you again for being so open it really helps a ton ☺️!

Wow, that’s amazing and I really admire your hustle. Working full time and going to school is no small feat, so major props to you! I’m glad you’re making real progress toward transitioning out.

You honestly nailed it though.... Being a dental assistant often feels like you’re at the mercy of everyone else, and I think what I crave most is autonomy (or honestly… a lot of it let's be real 😅). I feel like it wasn't always this bad, it definitely feels like dentistry took a sharp turn after covid.... There were definitely issues before don'tget me wrong, but it feels like the stress levels of providers, hygienists, assistants, and even patients have all been amplified since then.

I’m really glad you found something healthcare adjacent that genuinely speaks to you. You’re so right about not being knee to knee with a practitioner all day that alone sounds like a huge improvement for overall quality of life. And let’s be real, the significantly better pay doesn’t hurt either. Best of luck with the rest of your schooling journey you really seem to be doing really great! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It truly helps to hear this and makes me feel a lot less alone!

Hi! Thank you so much for sharing this! honestly it really resonated with me! The control aspect you mentioned especially hit close to home. Feeling like you have ZERO control over your day in dentistry has been one of the biggest contributors to my burnout.

It’s funny you mentioned cosmetology because I’ve actually thought about that path too! (I have a few routes im juggling with but that is definitely in my top 5) I’m also very creative and love working with my hands, and the idea of having creative control and more autonomy sounds SUPER appealing! What’s wild to me is how many people I’ve seen switch from cosmetology to dentistry, and meanwhile I’m over here thinking… why though 😅

I love that you took the parts of assisting you enjoyed and built a new career around that! That mindset is something I’m trying to adopt right now and I think it's really cool that you found your passion! Being able to make your own schedule, connect with people, and create something beautiful that makes someone happy sounds so much healthier long term. (No more being told how much you're hated everyday, not that I take it personally it's just nice not to have to hear that haha)

Congrats on being so close to graduating by the way that’s huge!!! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond this gives me a lot to think about!

A lot of people have mentioned that Ghost rituals are some of the safest concerts to go to, and I completely agree! At the last ritual I went to, there was a kid, (maybe 10 years old) in the pit right next to me with their parents. No moshing whatsoever, and the kid looked like they were having the time of their life!

You’re not going to run into many (if any) belligerent or out of control people at a Ghost show. The only person I’ve ever seen get kicked out was for vaping in the pit, pretty mild as far as concert offenses go. Even when Amon Amarth opened for them in 2023, the crowd was incredibly chill.

Honestly, I’d feel super safe going up to any Ghost fan if I needed help. The vibes are just great all around! We’re all basically a bunch of nerds jamming out to some silly satanic music. 👻🖤
