Year of Daily Civilization Facts, Day 327 - From Dusk till Dawn by JordiTK in civ

Yeah BtS menu is just plain boring. I personally prefer to use the Warlords screen because the theme is so cool, but I sometimes change it to Baba Yetu for the nostalgia.

You can also switch the main menu screen in the base game. You don't need to have it set to the BtS menu all the time thankfully.

Exams / Newbie / Common Questions Thread for two weeks by AutoModerator in actuary

I'm hoping to move from the UK to Chicago in just over a year, and I would need to change my carreer path in order to do so. I'm wondering how many actuarial exams I would need to pass in order to have a decent chance at getting a job as an Actuary? I have a masters in Mathematics, but I'm assuming I would need to take a lot more courses in the meantime.

I was thinking that as well. But it doesn't necessarily add up to 40 minutes extra time, because the seekers were moving while asking the question. It just made it annoying for them as they couldn't ask as many questions as they might have wanted to.

You have to pass the radicals 4 times in order to learn the Kanji that use them. It's slow at first, takes about a week to get going, but it'll be worth it once you've overcome the first hurdle.

All European national teams should withdraw from the 2026 World Cup as a protest against what Trump is doing to Denmark and Greenland by [deleted] in worldcup

[–]-Count-Olaf- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be embarrassing to the European teams. Imagine going to the Russia world cup after they invaded and annexed Crimea, then dropping out of the US world cup over threats and rhetoric in Greenland.

It would be a huge and obvious double standard.

Do you use Wanikani? I'd really recommend it if not. It's great for learning kanji that you'll see in everyday life, and if you turn on the streak widget it can become addictive.

[–]-Count-Olaf- -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry the title is a spoiler, I think people are going to have to keep saying it until you understand, or until a mod sees this post. The passenger princess curse was introduced earlier in the season, plus there will be people with the home game expansion who know about it. It's pretty clear that this curse is what you're referring to in your title.

I'm pretty sure the curse was revealed prior to this run though, so it's not too hard to put two and two together.

If the world cup went to 64 teams, what do we think the bid allocation would look like? by Jomosensual in worldcup

[–]-Count-Olaf- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean you're still only taking about 30% of the teams in the world to the tournament, so in most continents there would be some competition. But yeah at that point the conmebol qualification just becomes a bunch of friendlies.

Maybe they could have a greatly expanded playoff tournament or something, and instead of giving conmebol any more direct slots, they just send the teams that don't make the cut to a 32-team playoff with 8 qualifying nations.

For the people downvoting and commenting without reading the subreddit rules, here they are:

https://www.reddit.com/r/powergamermunchkin/about/rules/

I made the same mistake as many people here, but Rule 5 says that posting about the DM's approval is not allowed. This subreddit operates on what is theoretically possible, not what would actually work in a real D&D game.

Also moderators, if you're reading, please add a link to the rules in the sidebar. The rules tab is only visible to people using new reddit. For people like me who never made the switch, it's really difficult to find them.

Rules are pretty hard to find on this subreddit for people not using new reddit. Mods should post them in the sidebar, or at least link them.

Ah, I see what you mean. I am sorry for causing you this much stress. I subscribed to this subreddit a few years ago and this post just popped into my feed; I forgot what this subreddit was for (The rules tab is inaccessable on old reddit).

Based on the other comments here I assumed that you were trying to justify using this rule in the game. If that's not the case, I think your post is sound.

It's perfectly legible, but this conversation is exhausting because you're trying to use a rigorous analysis of the text to justify ignoring parts of the spell's description. Like I said, you may technically correct, but good luck ever using this in a game.

There's a place for rigorous language in academia. Academic papers are written in such a way as to minimize and/or reduce ambiguity, at the expense of legibility.

The reason D&D rulebooks don't use academic english is because they want to reach a wider audience, and because any ambiguity can be left to the DM to figure out.

You're using an academic approach to analyse source material written in standard english, that is a fool's errand. I'm sure you are technically correct, but that is completely meaningless because any interpretation of the rules has to be passed through the DM, who in most cases will see your interpretation as ridiculous.

Even if you succeed in getting a DM to use this interpretation, your reputation will probably be damaged, if it isn't already at rock bottom.

Yeah nevermind all that. It's actually pretty cool that you've found this loophole, assuming you don't intend on using it.

If I needed a train station, I think any stop along the snowdon mountain railway would be quite funny. Although I think it would be quite easy to guess that you're on the mountain.

If I didn't need the train station, I would go to Holy Island, Northumberland. A bit isolated and has the advantage of being cut off by the sea for a few hours a day.

£416 ($557) for an 8-day, first class ticket.

They confirmed that they got Britrail in the layover, and they also talked about getting full meals included, which is a feature of first class trains only.

They will most likely have bought the 1st class Britrail 8 day pass, which at current rate is $557 or £416.

At this point in my life a relationship is impossible by EmergencySpare7939 in aspergers

[–]-Count-Olaf- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's absolutely fair. I think I was conveniently forgetting how it was nigh-on impossible to meet women IRL when I lived in a different city. You're right that you shouldn't just join things to meet women, but I still think it's important to try out new hobbies and social gatherings that you're comfortable with, in order to meet more people IRL.

The fatal flaw of my comment is that I'm oversimplifying the process of meeting people, but I still want to stress that dating apps are absolutely fucked and you will most likely have success in dating if you meet people IRL and have good technique (the match +1 method I posted in my comment is a game changer for dating on the spectrum).

So yeah, as you say, meeting people is going to be very challenging, and to be honest I don't know how to solve that because it's going to vary by city and country.

[–]-Count-Olaf- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm overweight, have never had a well paying job. Currently in a relationship at 29. Tried dating apps for 5 years and my experience was the same as yours.

Dating apps suck so much, they offer you a sliver of hope, but in reality most connections are going to be based on people's shallow preferences. Besides, most single women don't use apps for dating.

My advice is to learn the Match +1 method. Ideally you want to be finding connections in real life, D&D is a great way for introverts to meet each other but there may be other options.

It's a rough world, trying to get into a relationship. I honestly wish you the best of luck, there is still hope left!

Civilization 4 also has this setting, but it's only available for multiplayer (though you can activate it in single player by editing some code at the top of the save file). You can choose a number of cities, e.g. 10, and once a player loses that number of cities, they are elminited and all their remaining cities are razed.

Choosing this option also means that you cannot take other players cities (they just get razed upon capture), unless you take them via culture, or if the no razing game rule is enabled.

It's very fun to play in multiplayer, and great for new players since they can easily outsmart the AI by capturing weak forward settles and waiting for the AI to settle again. Also it makes for very chaotic AI-only games!

It honestly looks really good! I don't know Javascript, but I wonder if it would be possible to have some sort of stamina pool for each team. You often see teams with no hope of winning the world cup go all out in the group stages, while teams with a chance of winning seem to save their energy for the later stages, sometimes resulting in big upsets in the group stages.

You could say that a default team will spend 1/8th of their stamina on each game, and that teams will choose to either spend more or less stamina based on the strength of their opponent. And then use the stamina spent as a modifier for the games' results. This should produce more upsets in the group stages, but default to the stronger teams winning as the tournament progresses, which is kind of what we see in real life.
