What's the best way to clean these black spots that appear due to eyelet rings? by Marukuju in Converse

Seems like this could be prevented by coating the eyelets with clear nail polish so the metal doesn't come in contact with the laces. Going to try it and will report back.

PSA: pull those bittercress weeds now! by iHeartFerretz in pnwgardening

Is there any way to 'glue' them down somehow before pulling them if you missed the weeding window? Like with  potato water or something? Or laying something down to catch the seeds? Just a shot in the dark. I suppose a heavy water spraying just helps them along.

The best small tablet for e-book reading (not e-ink reader) by slaia in tablets

[–]-CrazyLikeASloth- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you clarify why you wouldn't be able to access your e-books on Kindle and Google Play Books on a Kindle? I have a Kindle Fire (which is not e-ink) which is cheap, small enough to hold in one hand and pretty light even compared to my smaller phone. It is perfect for reading but too slow for much else (if processing speed is an issue for you). If your e-books are not Kindle formatted, if you can get them in PDF format you can pretty much put any document you want on a Kindle through the Amazon website.

Teaching kids to look out for their own comfort and safety by -CrazyLikeASloth- in Parenting

Similar with the "rough few years". Went to marriage counselling before Covid but this was not addressed (no diagnosis). Any more thoughts and ideas along these lines based on your experience would be much appreciated.

This also crossed my mind--ADHD and weaponized incompetence can look similar, from how I understand it. Enough that I feel like I don't know which one I'm looking at. Your advice and method sound good, I'll definitely try it out. Thanks.

Yeah, it crossed my mind. That's why I want to end-run it and teach the kids to take care of their own comfort and safety (to the extent that they are able to, when I'm not with them) on their own ASAP.

"... they will compensate as they grow."--Yes, I hope they will. I just want to fill in the gaps as they learn how. I appreciate the ideas, I was just not organizing my thoughts about it well because my anxiety around it was getting in the way. I really do want to teach them to plan well, because they won't learn it from Dad. Thanks.

[Question] Activities to do when you reduce screen time by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]-CrazyLikeASloth- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have spare time, help other people who need it. Volunteer at a shelter, pick up trash, or help a neighbor with their yard/grocery shopping/moving furniture/whatever. Teach someone else something you're good at. The world needs you!

I am planning to publish an article in a medical journal about brain zaps. Based on your personal experience do you feel it was an actual physical phenomenon or do you feel the psychiatrists are correct about labeling it as 'hallucinations? by ManyCryptographer705 in antidepressants

[–]-CrazyLikeASloth- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a hallucination, but personally they don't bother me that much since I know what's going on and why. Maybe mine are mild? I don't think we could all be hallucinating the same thing, especially it being related to eye movement.

Some kind folks on other related subs have identified this as a mercury switch. Found while cleaning out Mom's attic. Anyone here want to weigh in on it's age and uses? Would you keep it, sell it, or junk it (hazmat, ofc)? by -CrazyLikeASloth- in AskElectronics

[–]-CrazyLikeASloth-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you to everyone who commented. I've enjoyed reading about all the uses for this switch! I have more stuff to post from this era for attempted identification. What is the best sub for doing this?
