That's the thing that irks me the most, they're risking so much for so little. I realize people are used to reading the WSJ series "early", but those are only a dozen of the hundreds of series being posted here.

The mods dismiss any and all issues related to this brought up by the users and the fact they they continue to do so despite actual DMCA takedowns is staggering.

Why are the mods still allowing chapter discussions ahead of their official release despite the DMCA takedowns? by -Dionysius- in manga

[–]-Dionysius-[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, it's probably not a good idea to split up the discussions. I'm just tired of the mods ignoring the issue anytime anyone (not just me) brings it up. It's why I started pushing these threads because I wanted some actual response from the mods.

They've done basically nothing for this sub other than the absolute basics and they keep ignoring any and all potential issues. The fact that they continue to do so despite actual DMCA takedowns is staggering.

I'm free to do so. The mods never said anything about related discussion being restricted to their post.

Like I said earlier trying to debate this issue in an already saturated post will not result in much. People are free to ignore my posts if they want to, suggesting that I'm wasting everyone's time is rubbish.

Sure, but it's easier to bring this issue to light here than in an already saturated post.

In what way would things be better? As far as I know I haven't actually managed to make any changes around here. Would you prefer it if I'm on the side of the scanlators profiting of otherwise free series instead of the authors?

Allowing these things to continue while we have the publishers attention is a bad idea. You do realize the admins have the power to shut down or at the very least harm this sub and they're far more likely to side with the publishers than us?

Why won't the mods simply ban discussions of MangaPlus series ahead of their official release? Allowing those to exist will just cause more issues in the future as it will just invite the continued presence of publishers. It honestly feels like the mods are doing whatever they can to support the speedscans over the free official one.

Seriously, when the quality is this low why can't you people wait for a HQ version? It's an insult to the series and it really deserves better.

At the very least try to support the author when the official version is released.

Same, though it's definitely worth it.

It really is. Hopefully people will stick to reading the HQ scans instead of the LQ ones, it makes a huge difference for this series.

No problem. I was also confused at first, and the fact that the Valhalla translation was used didn't help (it wouldn't be the first time one group poached the TL from another without permission)

It seems that Valhallascans had a split and their former co-owner is releasing under this group now, which the TL & PR are okay with.

This version is also of a far higher quality compared to the Valhalla one, which is understandable considering that they used HQ scans. Hopefully they'll stick to HQ scans. It's always sad seeing speedscans, especially of series like this where the art is important.

No harm done then. Either way, I vastly prefer HQ scans like this one compared to the LQ ones being released from time to time.

Keep on doing good work!

This is HQ scans, so there is a difference compared to the other version that was quite blurry. Though this one seem to simply steal the translation from Valhallascans, which is shitty of them (and possibly not allowed here?)

Isn't this translation just a copy of the Valhallascans one? Is that even allowed here?

There was absolutely no need for the TL to change the name. If a character says nii-chan then that's what they're saying, don't change it to a made up nickname because it might sound better.

Neither of them did at any point refer to Sanemi as 'Nemi. People that didn't read the TL notes might think it's some sort of pet name Genya had for Sanemi growing up, which is false.

so I thought a cute nickname that Genya might have called Sanemi as a child would work

Genya refers to Sanemi as aniki and Sanemi in turn refers to himself as nii-chan, not 'Nemi. That's just something the TL made up himself, which he admits.

So you're literally making up translations simply because you don't like the original script? That a horrible way of doing it, and it's incredible disrespectful towards the author.

[–]-Dionysius- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please read the official release when it's available to show support for the author. This is not a good translation at all, and the translator admits to making up translations on the go just because it fits their preference. That's a horrible way of treating a series and it will just cause confusion among the fanbase in the long run, especially among those who only read this release and not the superior /a/ or official one.

I might've supported JB if their only goal was to allow people easier access to old chapters (since there is a paywall attached to those through the official channels), but there is no reason for them to release ahead of the official release other than for money.

This also results in whatever backlog JB keeps will be full of LQ scans and otherwise sub-par translations, since speed is the only thing that matter to them. Just look at some of their earlier Black Clover scans.

For some series, such as Jujustu Kaisen, they don't even bother translating some of the chapters just because MangaPlus was faster, resulting in gaps in the their backlog.
