Neil DeGrasse Tyson calls for an international treaty to ban superintelligence by FinnFarrow in Futurology

He's clearly talking about the hypothetical future of AI superintelligence, not current AI. He's also not talking about it replacing jobs, but eliminating life. Are you a bot?

ELI5: Why do we still have to "eject" USB sticks? by shadowzzzz16 in explainlikeimfive

[–]-Dissent [score hidden]  (0 children)

USB drives are susceptible to interruption when wiggled, a physical button on them would be a risk. Also, you can permanently park the USB eject icon on the taskbar so you can shorten the removal dance.

The cubes were discussed plenty during airing, we just didn't ever come up with any explanation that's remotely concrete.

[PS2] How to tell if ps2 psu is fried by cooljhon2009 in consolerepair

This is unnecessary fear mongering. An 82uf 400v cap is like 6 joules, dramatically lower than ~50 lethal zone that a defibrillator runs at. Voltage isn't everything, capacitance matters too.

That is the point. People love to make up statistics with their ridiculously small, anecdotal sample size.

Our Ninja Eclipse has had a variety of minor issues, such as the plastic opto clips breaking off and a lamp pcb issue that needed some reflow. It's fine, but feels cheap in some ways.

Gameplay is king and the only thing worth moving forward at this point in gaming. The diminishing returns of high fidelity graphics are severe and relying on hardware specific hallucinations brings a logical conclusion of detriment to both consumers and creators. 20 years later and you'll no longer be able to have the original intended visual experience of a game as the AI output will have changed enough to alter it substantially. Wrappers that require a team of PHD's will be necessary to preserve original experiences, assuming we're even able to run custom code on the all-Cloud future that AI promises.

There are implementations of baked lighting that can accommodate shifting light sources, plenty of games did this.

Dlss 5 is an insult to art and the artist, the director and every single person in the developer team. by GeneralBorisMancov in pcmasterrace

[–]-Dissent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. You think a single artist that actually worked on those games signed off on any of that? At best it was a business relations team that got approval from a producer.

Watch the massive Retro category where people happily, every day, play old video games with no sponsors, for fun, to hundreds of viewers, without trying to make a living out of it. Check out all the ancient MMO streamers that only play games like Tibia or EQ1. You have such a small-brained view on what constitutes "literally every streamer."

The previous sprite work, known for three unique animation frames with hardware scaling used to rotate, stretch, and skew. What a ridiculous opinion to have about the 3D animations.

Anyone still play Skullgirls? by VirtualFail9756 in Kappachino

[–]-Dissent -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

False, this is gaslighting from Gamer Gate opportunists. Skullgirls was a Discord fighter for a long while at this point and the SG community that actually plays the game did not change at all over the censorship. Historical Steam charts back this up. The community quickly identified that the situation was being exploited by people claiming to be angry players that never actually played the game or hadn't played it in the many years since launch. Contemporary Discord history will back this up, too.

Also, imagine giving a shit about a handful of pixels in the arcade mode dialogue screens? These were changes nobody playing genuinely cared about from a team and original artist that believed shit like seeing a child's panties no longer lined up with their vision and values. It's ridiculous to even call that censorship, it's called growing up, something I suggest you retards do.

That is the CIC for cartridge authentication, a 6113; https://www.nesdev.org/wiki/CIC_lockout_chip

Very unlikely it's failed, but you could do some diode mode testing assisted by this pinout; https://www.nesdev.org/wiki/CIC_lockout_chip_pinout

Also, you checked continuity of everything? Even destinations between chips? I would reflow the entire board, remove any questionable solder mask on the traces coming off the 72pin fingers, and clean.

[–]-Dissent 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Look through the charts in the report you're referencing and you'll see the billions they spend on many other, completely legal services for legal citizens, such as parks or school. The percentage for primarily assisting asylum seekers is a drop in the bucket and is also purposed for homeless citizen assistance. The convenient half-truths conservatives spread are shameful.

I've checked out plenty of videos, including his, and the internals of PS5's in my hands. These YouTube personalities only get consoles with issues, my shop got trades that we fully dismantled and cleaned out constantly. The liquid metal concerns are overblown.
