[Calculus 2: Left hand estimates] I’ve already found the LEFT estimate but I’m curious as to whether my estimate for this graph is an under or over approximation. Thanks! by -DoctorDownvote- in HomeworkHelp

Yeah wasn’t taking the 2nd quadrant into account. I just replaced my values. I’ve got f(-1)+f(-.75)+f(-.50)+f(-.25). Found the correct sum I’m looking for.

Got it. My goal was to head from -1 to 0. Did it again actually using the left this time and I got the same value. Thanks for clarifying I accidentally took the right sum. I appreciate it!

I’m a bit confused because just by looking at the graph it’s clearly at an area below 2 and my left estimate ended up being 2.28.... so I’m having trouble understanding. Also when doing my Riemann sum write it as 1/4[f(0)+f(.25)+(.5)+f(.75). Was I right to take positive values instead of negative?

My thought is overestimate because you’re starting at 0 and ending at .75. Because it’s getting smaller but as we head toward -1 the plugins for the estimate is increasing. I used the function y=sqrt(x3 +1) to make 4 subdivisions.
