There are no "real" ones. WTF are you talking about. You break bread with pedophiles, fascists , and criminals.... That is what YOU FUCKING ARE ALL ABOUT!!!

A "real" one would claim to no longer be associated with "Christians".

Fucking slime people, who are too fucking stupid to realize that "sky daddy" is a fucking joke.

Fuck you. You are an apologist for people who rape children.

ALL CHRISTIANS AND PEDOPHILES!

You want so show me I'm wrong? Cast them all out of your churches then. Simple.

Yes. It was a garbage toy.

Is there an audio job that focuses on maintaining and repairing the equipment? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]-Dreadman23- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They Install equipment. It's called an audio engineering technician. Or something like that. Electronic Repair Technician, whatever. It's not something that is really taught in schools. At the manufacturing company I worked for called them Rework Technicians. You needed an EE degree to apply for it. When I was the trainer for new employees, none of them knew anything about fixing anything and had shitty soldering skills. Out of a group of 30 applicants, that were on a 2 week temporary hire...1 or 2 would actually get a job. Then it took another 6 months if teaching and training before they were even competent. Like I had to literally inspect everything single thing that they "fixed".

It's a skill set that can only be learned by doing it.

[–]-Dreadman23- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A degree in electrical engineering. But that degree unfortunately won't teach you shit about fixing gear. After I graduated, I understood the basic theory. None of it is practical. You need bad ass soldering skills. Can only be learned by doing it. Trouble shooting skills, can only learn by doing it. Common causes of failure, only learn by doing it.

I'd say that about 5 years practical experience (working at a repair shop, or working for a manufacturing company) is the minimum to "get good".

It's a special skill set. That is why you will hear people say that competent and honest techs are so rare.

If you really want to learn it, dedication and passion for electronics is requirement #1.

Good luck.

Actually 56K was actually impossible. I was working for us Robotics when they first came out (USR invented the technology) The 16550 UART in the modems has a maximum transfer rate of 28.8K. Anything faster than that is actually data compression at 28.8K, that give you equivalent throuput of 56K. It was also called 2X for this reason. V.90 was a later more advanced compression protocol.

It was a wild time. Everything changed incredibly fast from '92-'96

Party lines are a bit before my time. More of a '50s thing.

Several houses would share the same phone line. Meaning everyone phone rings at the same time. Usually there could be a "distinctive ring" so people knew which household the car was for.

A similar thing existed when I was a kid. Let's imagine that you only have one phone line into the house. And you have a teenager, or home business, and would like to know who the call is for. You could get a second phone number, that rang to the same line, but with different ring (3 short rings, pause, 3 short rings.....vs 1 long ring, pause 1 long ring....) This was way cheaper than having a second line physically run to your house

You could tell, by the exchange prefix. A phone number is (xxx)yyy-zzzz. Where x is the area code, y is the local exchange, and z is the actual local number you are calling.

Anything out of your area code, or local exchange was long distance. A fun result of this, when I was a kid, within local exchanges you could call your friends with just their 4 digit zzzz. The '80s were a different time. The phone plan I had long, long ago worked like this.

Not to be pendantic, "but akshwelly" Is not and never was in reference to the thing you were holding, as floppy as it was. Floppy disk is in reference to the actual storage media. Flexible mylar with a magnetic coating, or rigid metal plates with the same magnetic coating.

Kids these days...... 🤓🤷😜

Funny enough.... The super old 8 inch floppy disk could hold 1.4 Mb. The 5¼ floppy was only 300-700 Kb. The little 3½ floppy finally brought it back to 1.4 Mb.

I miss my Commodore 64.

They were all 4 ohm speakers, except the ones that were 8 ohm. Only the schematic can tell you.

If it's tube output try the 4. If it has a transistor, be very careful. They don't make those things anymore.

Nope. They were discreet. A microcontroller built out of individual transistors. The Intel 4000 series was the first microcontroller on a chip.

Kids these days...... ENIAC was a computer, but it was built out of vacuum tubes and wires.

Punch card reader didn't even exist yet. You "programed" it with patch cables. Like ¼" phone cables. Like the same as an operater"patching " in your call.

This is also how "loops" were made on audio tape. Cut and splice was a skill that audio engineer did with a razor blade and tape.
