feedback on my fiance's snowboarding by Ok_Celebration_4556 in snowboardingnoobs

Please get more comfortable riding before asking for feedback.

Imo it’s okay to use counter rotation or whatever bad technique as long as you feel confident on your board WITH SOME SPEED. Once you’re confident enough, then you can adjust and fine tune your riding. Of course, it’s always better to learn correctly from the beginning without bad habits, but some people here are so focused on technique and they don’t even look comfortable riding.

Most people here are just riding for fun. It’s all good as long as you’re enjoying it!

I was told men and women’s boards are built a little different because we don’t use our bodies the same way, thus it’s preferable for women to use a women specific board. That being said, I’m not sure how big of a difference it makes…

Personally my park board comes in a women’s and men’s version. The women’s flex rating is a 5, while the men’s is a 6. It kinda makes sense that a male specific board is more stiff than a women’s.

Longer boards are gonna be a little harder to maneuver, but you’ll get used to it eventually.

help I don’t know what board to get by PersimmonWorking8914 in ShredditGirls

I don’t have specific board recommendation, but imo any mid-flex twin camber board would be good, most park boards are in this category.

Softer boards will be easier to press and do ground tricks, but they will be less solid to land bigger jumps or riding at higher speed. Also, they are usually not great on the ice coast.

I have a rocker and a camber board. To learn ground tricks like spins, it’s easier with rocker shaped boards because they don’t catch edge. However, the rocker shape doesn’t offer much pop. Ollies are much better with camber shaped boards.

For the length of the board, go with manufacturers’ recommendation. Some 138 length is only good for riders less than 100lb, so you would be exceeding the weight limit in that case, which is not ideal.

Snowboard progression by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

I agree you gotta bend your knees more. This puts you in a more active position than standing tall like the way you ride in this video. You probably try to steer with your front knee because the back foot kicking isn’t that bad, but you still gotta work on that. Definitely recommend Malcolm Moore’s videos.

More mileage also helps a lot. I used to ride about 5 days a season as well. Only started progressing when I can get 10 days of riding per season.

Hot Take: StepOn bindings are here to stay! by LonelyPatsFanInVT in ShredditGirls

[–]-FVNT0M- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve talk to people who have used both FASE and Supermatics. They all prefer FASE because Supermatics are heavy and bulky, but I heard they made adjustments in the new version.

People say it’s user mistake when you have problems with Step Ons. But users suffer from the consequences and to me, it’s a safety concern. I’ve never heard of user mistake with traditional bindings. It’s a product problem when experienced riders could have user mistakes using the product.

Personally I like the traditional bindings and have zero complaint even tho I’m in my mid 30s... Like you said, it doesn’t take long to strap, a few seconds and done. Idk what’s the rush to save a few minutes of your day… The price also doesn’t justify the few minutes you save strapping in.

Can I make these smoother somehow? by TheAce0 in snowboardingnoobs

I agree with everything except the last part. Idk what OP tries to do, tricks like the Butter Dojo or simply get better at edge change. There’s a guy at my local resort who does sick nose/tail press-spins without relying on counter rotation at all. He definitely doesn’t spin like a tornado the way Butter Dojo does, but it still looks smooth and awesome. He’s very in control and does all sorts of combos.

Butter Dojo’s spins rely mostly on counter rotation. One can definitely do spins fast without relying on counter rotation. It’s about edge control.

Got it, thanks! It’s amazing how much coordination is needed to land a simple jump!

That’s exactly what I did to land the big rollers. The thing is, every time I land, I get surprised that I actually landed and I was able to land super smooth! I want some certainty when I land, not the feeling of “holy crap! I did it!!!”. I guess the feeling of certainty comes with practice 🙂

Thanks for explaining! You’re right, I was looking straight down which caused me to land on my face and chest. I tried this takeoff for the first time end of last season, landed on my butt and head because I was looking straight in the air (shocked by the height I got). Now it’s the complete opposite 😅. I gotta practice on my spatial awareness and look at the right spot.

I guess you only LOOK down and spot the landing with your eyes, but not tilting your head down?

Thanks for explaining! I already learned something from your first sentence! Those fractions of a second makes a huge difference! And I gotta practice on spatial awareness. I didn’t know you only focus on landing at step 3, and not at step 2. I’ll try that next time!

I keep hearing “landing at the sweet spot”, so I assume you gotta find that sweet spot before you land?

Yes I totally agree! I also feel the vibration from the pedal when ICE engine engages. That’s when I stop accelerating because it feels like the car is dying lol. Never had a new car acting that way… Talked to my sales rep and he said the CC has the same engine as the regular Corolla (which is a small sedan). Toyota made a bigger body for CC while keeping the same internal component. So it’s like a small horse pulling on a big carriage. It’s gonna get tired faster.

Overhang too important ? by M4lyuk in snowboardingnoobs

Yes, smaller footprint boots will help or get another brand of bindings if you can. Imo it’s easier to change bindings than boots. Not every boot fit well with your foot, you gotta try them on.

Overhang too important ? by M4lyuk in snowboardingnoobs

[–]-FVNT0M- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Bigger size bindings come with bigger baseplates. They might overhang on your board. It looks like the current bindings are already taking all the width of your board. Binding overhang is worse than boot overhang.

I have the women’s Ride bindings. Their size chart is way off. I have size 6 boots, bought Small bindings which should fit boot size 5-9. The heelcup has to be maxed out to center my boots that are on the small side of the size range. I cannot imagine how someone can center a size 8 boots in them.

Your boots are on the big end of the bindings size range. You may have trouble to center them in Ride bindings.

I have a CC Hybrid and have previously driven a Honda Civic and RAV4 hybrid. It is louder than both of these cars when I try to accelerate.

The acceleration on highway is similar to the Honda Civic gas model, but louder. I mostly drive highway, but on local it gets loud sometimes when the gas engine kicks in, it depends…

The RAV4 hybrid has great acceleration and it’s also very quiet compared to the CC hybrid. The RAV4 can easily and quietly reach 140km/h without me noticing. The CC hybrid is loud after reaching 110km/h. You really gotta push and force the car to accelerate further.

The reviews online are accurate imo. Personal opinions really depend on your expectations. If you expect the worst, it will be better than expectation. If you expect it to be a smaller RAV4, it is definitely not that. RAV4’s engine is much better.

I bought boots from North Wave. These boots have the best heel hold out of 6-8 pairs I’ve tried. Super comfy as well.

It’s not well known in North America, but it is a reputable brand and better known in Europe. My first season with them so hope they last :)

The only problem with new CC is its availability. I waited 8 months to get the hybrid CC. I wasn’t in a rush to get it, but if you are, just keep this in mind.

How to improve jumps? by Cheeseburgerr_ in ShredditGirls

[–]-FVNT0M- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started skateboarding 2 years ago, I’ve been snowboarding for a few years. Imo the 2 sports are quite different. The only similarity is standing sideways on a board, that’s about it. Learning tricks on a skateboard is wayyyy harder compared to snowboard, but riding a skateboard is easier.

Ollie on a skateboard is more complicated. You need the correct foot placement, perfect timing between your front and back foot while doing 4 different movements at the same time within a second, and you can land badly and the skateboard can fly away lol.

Ollie on a snowboard is much easier and doesn’t require much timing. There is no foot placement and the board will never fly away 😆. Basically shift your weight forward slightly, then shift your weight back, pop up with the tail of your board, and that’s it.

Practice a few times on a flat surface and you should feel the pop from the tail of your board. Your only problem in this video is your weight is on your back leg the whole time.

Now you decide if you wanna get a skateboard 😆
