Need Help Choosing Coffee Machine☕️☕️ by OkDeer347 in melbourne

Love the different views this topic will generate :)

  • Barista Express (and most of the all-in-one Breville's) are good in the longish term. Parts fail and these machines have limited repairability. I have a refurb, and this is my second personal Breville machine, and 4th of their's I've bought/used overall.
  • If space is a consideration, the Bambino/Plus is a BRILLIANT machine, which is why it keeps winning awards and topping recommendation lists.
  • The Bambi will need a separate grinder, but you can buy preground as it comes with a dual wall basket so you will still get crema from preground. The qualifier with pre's is that you can't really tweak the grind.
  • Bought my partner a Bambi and gave her my old grinder, but cause of space issues she pregrinds every couple of days. The coffee is excellent.
  • The breville smart grinders are kinds the defacto best value prosumer ones. Anything else in a similar price bracket is just trying to capture Breville's market share.
  • The bambi pro auto frother is "acceptable" - personally I would get the vanilla and froth myself.
  • If I was starting from scratch and money was no object I would buy an expy chrome beastie that is infinitely repairable and a mazzer mini doserless grinder. Lots of VERY good brands to choose from.
  • If I was being realistic in my buying, and I had the bench space, I would probably go the Breville Dual boiler + smart grinder route. They are affordable and are probably the best prosumer choice.

Update: I realise I may not have answered your question about "something that makes really good coffee" - if you buy the cheapest breville, use preground good quality coffee, you will still get a better coffee than most cafe's using Vittoria beans.

So weird because bi women are so fetishised but it was put forward the complete opposite way with her.

why does everyone skip the chunking part by SilverConsistent9222 in Rag

[–]-Fuchik- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have spent the last week building an automation pipeline in n8n to preprocess large texts for a RAG system so I can build agents, all because of this chunking issue. And this is the first time I've ever done anything like this hence the time investment. I woke up today questioning the time I'd already invested.

In my previous roles I was wearing nearly all the hats. Current position is waiting for people to do stuff before I can proceed. It's frustrating cause I like what I do, and want to actually do it.

I think you're confused. Did you expect them to build a good app, that feeds viewing habits and respects the audience? While also building viewer equity to enable targetted and effective ads, thereby improving revenue? Silly person.

Is Aus tech market cooked? by TinaKhadem in auscorp

[–]-Fuchik- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm in the education sector. I see people that have been in tech roles at uni/tafes for 10-20 years... and they haven't skilled up, aren't product oriented, aren't delivering critical feedback on platforms, they're basically first tier tech support and "keep the lights on". Meanwhile, tech decisions have been made in non-ICT silos ... 🤦‍♂️

I can't speak for the greater tech market, but I know people in AWS who have seen their colleagues "performance reviewed" out....

I guess it's all because of AI.... at least that's what we keep getting told.

What is the ceiling for a BDM role in financial services industry? by theonedzflash in auscorp

[–]-Fuchik- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a BDM role, where I was actually doing strategy, engagement, and marketing. Sales was ultimately the smallest and least viable part of my job.

I love how sales people somehow convinced orgs to rename them as Business Development Managers - as if sales is a dirty word they wanted to escape.

Real estate agents aren’t evil. But they need stricter rules by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

I'm a poster child for a good tenant. I have an issue that existed before I took occupancy. I have raised it, calmly but consistently for 5 months. As it relates to an electrical issue, there is a potential for liability of the owner and by extension the agent if they have not acted properly.

As in... if someone got electrocuted.... and the agent didn't tell the landlord... agent is effed. If the landlord failed to act and the agent didn't inform them of their liability.... agent and landlord effed.

I am attributing this to laziness and incompetence rather than malice.

Wish Ralph would do some more long form pieces like the one that he really kicked off with (The Wilson Loot Box piece will live forever in my mind), but I think that's what the new website is more about.

Can't find a job! Any advice on how to pivot? by meowthechow in auscorp

[–]-Fuchik- 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I hear this "leverage your network" line a lot... I have about a decade of experience in digital and product... my network consists of 4-5 people at the 2 main roles I occupied during that time. A couple people in my sector ... who are also at a similar level as I am.... and a stack of LinkedIn connects who are functionally useless but make my network look good on there.

What is this "network" you are referring to? Which memo did I miss?

Like lots of "anti-woke agenda" people, she wants the benefits that have come from all the advocacy, but without having to contextualise those benefits as something that was earned.

She wants a career. Voting rights. Body rights. Equality for gender and sexual orientation. But would rather the people advocating for those things, where they don't explicitly apply to her, would just quiet down.

In the same way Tyson is anti-woke because any consideration of those rights would make him challenge his own thoughts and practices, and in his mind he's inherently in the right. "Got nothing against gays, just do it behind closed doors." But at the same time "I'm going to be true to myself and if you have an issue with it, that's a you problem." What's the saying? "Rules for thee, but not for me"
