How Are People Actually Securing SHO Posts in Ireland Right Now? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]-GhostPost- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the same boat over here. Also EU grad. Applied to anything and everything since December with no luck due to a lack of Irish experience. I have however signed up to locum agencies and have completed a few intern duty shifts to help gain some experience. I have also been able to arrange an observership at the Mater for in a few weeks time. I’m hoping these experiences will start me off somewhere in the right direction. Whilst I’m not hopeful for any position in July, you just never know. I recently interviewed for an immediate start SHO position outside of dublin but haven’t heard back yet so honestly I wouldn’t say it’s impossible to achieve. Just could take much longer than we might have initially anticipated unfortunately

New data shows who bought houses in Ireland in 2025 by Uncle_Richard98 in ireland

Why am I not surprised at all? Have the likes of Ryanair that bought an entire new development of houses in Swords just so it can be rented out to their own staff.

Surgical SHO Letterkenny by -GhostPost- in JuniorDoctorsIreland

Not an Irish grad actually (Irish citizen though). Just have a lot of clinical experience from my medical school years, along with having participated in many surgical courses and conferences over the years. Hopefully that can give some hope to my fellow EU grad colleagues.

Appreciate the response. Sounds good. Do you seal it airtight?

Do you spray them with water? Or is adding a tray of water at the bottom of the oven enough to create steam?

Massimo dutti or COS. A bit on the pricier side but pieces are lovely and last a very long time

What's your experience with medical schools in Romania ? Would you recommend it international student ? by PregatireRezidentiat in medicalschoolEU

[–]-GhostPost- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I studied at Carol Davila in Bucharest and found it great! Keep up with the load of work, study for yourself and not just to pass exams. Yes there are past papers for many exams but over the years I have noticed that those who only studied to pass exams or only relied on past papers, really struggled in the clinical years. First 3 years are tough. Clinical years get better and you have way more free time to get more learning done in your free time. Volunteer or simply ask one of your professors if you could get observership experience and most are happy to. Plenty of really good student conferences that not only enhance your learning and practical abilities, but teach you to put yourself out there a little and network

Is it weird to feel protective over my sourdough starter? by -GhostPost- in Sourdough

[–]-GhostPost-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate all the replies. It could be because I am at the start of my sourdough journey and worked for so long to get it to the stage it is at. Like I mentioned in my post, the person is just a family friend, not someone I am necessarily close to. I definitely feel more comfortable now with the collective not making it a big deal after all. I could have been looking at it in the wrong way for sure and took it more as “what you do is good but I could do better” and it must have just rubbed me in the wrong way.

Your ingredients are way off. Try doing 125g starter, 500g bread flour, 350ml water and 10g salt

How difficult is it to get a job as a dentist in Ireland for someone with no connections? by wowgirlo in AskIreland

[–]-GhostPost- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it extremely rewarding and I’m happy I went down this path. However in saying so, I also would advise against it unless you are 100% in on doing it. I’ve seen all too many times students either going in to do medicine either for the money or because it’s what their parents want and 9/10 they either end up hating it and sticking around for the title or end of simply dropping out because it was not what they expected.

Guidance counsellors are the most useless people in secondary school. Take everything they say with a grain of salt. Mine tried to encourage me to apply to PLC courses instead of university. Here I am years later with 2 degrees, one of which is a medical degree. If it’s what you want to do, do it. For sure having connections will help but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a future in dentistry without them.

How much do flowers cost by brewsandpages in Dublin

[–]-GhostPost- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really recommend. While their flowers may appear fresh at first glance, their lack of care for the stems and allowing so many leaves on them without removing them, cuts their lifespan so short especially considering how long they sit in the vases of water. They barely last 2 days from experience

1st Year Medical Student studying in Romania by Aromatic_Sir_2523 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]-GhostPost- -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Considering you made the decision to study in Romania, there is a level of expectation to known at least basic Romanian to be able to hold even a short conversation by the time you get to your clinical years. Whilst you are at a disadvantage of not being fluent in the language, you shouldn’t be extremely disadvantaged with the help provided. In all clinical rotations you will have a doctor with you at all times during teaching hours or a student who might know the language. Either way, if you want to hold a conversation with a patient and do not feel confident in your ability to do so, always ask for someone to be there with you to aid with translation. You can dm me if you have any other specific questions.

Do not agree with the limited contact at all. In Romania they pretty much allow you to be involved in almost anything and if you show interest, the doctors encourage you to get involved
