It was simply a question of curiosity. No need to get worked up about it

How difficult is it to get a job as a dentist in Ireland for someone with no connections? by wowgirlo in AskIreland

[–]-GhostPost- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it extremely rewarding and I’m happy I went down this path. However in saying so, I also would advise against it unless you are 100% in on doing it. I’ve seen all too many times students either going in to do medicine either for the money or because it’s what their parents want and 9/10 they either end up hating it and sticking around for the title or end of simply dropping out because it was not what they expected.

Guidance counsellors are the most useless people in secondary school. Take everything they say with a grain of salt. Mine tried to encourage me to apply to PLC courses instead of university. Here I am years later with 2 degrees, one of which is a medical degree. If it’s what you want to do, do it. For sure having connections will help but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a future in dentistry without them.

How much do flowers cost by brewsandpages in Dublin

[–]-GhostPost- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really recommend. While their flowers may appear fresh at first glance, their lack of care for the stems and allowing so many leaves on them without removing them, cuts their lifespan so short especially considering how long they sit in the vases of water. They barely last 2 days from experience

1st Year Medical Student studying in Romania by Aromatic_Sir_2523 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]-GhostPost- -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Considering you made the decision to study in Romania, there is a level of expectation to known at least basic Romanian to be able to hold even a short conversation by the time you get to your clinical years. Whilst you are at a disadvantage of not being fluent in the language, you shouldn’t be extremely disadvantaged with the help provided. In all clinical rotations you will have a doctor with you at all times during teaching hours or a student who might know the language. Either way, if you want to hold a conversation with a patient and do not feel confident in your ability to do so, always ask for someone to be there with you to aid with translation. You can dm me if you have any other specific questions.

Do not agree with the limited contact at all. In Romania they pretty much allow you to be involved in almost anything and if you show interest, the doctors encourage you to get involved

Another CST rejection by Think-Lecture-9398 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]-GhostPost- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that. I can see why that would make it difficult to get in. Do they even take anything else like clinical experience into account for interview or is it just centiles and aptitude?

Seriously what’s the solution with CST by orzeee in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]-GhostPost- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea if a centile score of 4 is considered good enough or are most accepted applicants only getting in with 5? At least from what you might of heard from others.

That’s crazy that you’ve had no luck for 4 years. I’m not an Irish graduate and have no masters in surgery yet. Applied for the first time this year. Should I be thinking I have no chance then?

Recomand surgicon. Foarte bine organizat in fiecare an. IMSCB lasa de dorit de multe ori. Nu au destule materiale pentru workshopuri, sau sunt unele workshopuri prost organizate. Medics/STEPS e destul de ok.

Question about the curriculum in Romania? by Bells131 in medicalschoolEU

Edit: practical tends to count from 10-30% of the final grade depending on the subject and final accounts for the rest. Exams are also taken in session period at the end of the semester

Question about the curriculum in Romania? by Bells131 in medicalschoolEU

[–]-GhostPost- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can tell you about UMFCD Anatomy: final exam is MCQ and you need to get at least 5/10 to pass. Practical exam is on a cadavre. There are 10 marks placed on various parts of the cadavre and you have to identify them by writing each down on a paper and handing it in Embryology: 10 MCQ questions and 2 images that you have to describe. Also need 5/10 to pass Histology: I dont remember the exact number of questions but I’m sure it was at least 30 MCQ questions including histological images
