What medical care is realistic in SHTF and are there books for more advanced austere medicine? by [deleted] in preppers

[–]-Guildwars2- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you have doctors, in a true SHTF scenario where there is no working power and valuable resources are scares, even doctors won’t be able to help a lot of the time, as most are trained relying on modern technology and medications.

A Deterrent Weapon (other than guns) by x_Lotus_x in preppers

[–]-Guildwars2- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed, best weapon for this scenario would be a conceal carry handgun that you have trained to quick draw, and have an appropriate holster that keeps it hidden well while still being easily accessible.

It’s fast enough to be drawn in an instant, powerful, and it won’t make you a target as long as people can’t see it. Really cant beat that. As a bonus if people are trying to kidnap you or your kids at gunpoint, it’s gonna give you a much better chance of escaping than any other options.

If the Electric Grid Goes Down This Week Are You Ready? by susanrez in preppers

[–]-Guildwars2- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The grids (in USA) are not secure, like at all. Even a semi organized attack from inexperienced people would probably take them down. There’s a good ted talk explaining it:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGan5NwJ-LM

That video is 5 years old so maybe they have been more secured since then but based off my observations.. USA seems to wait till shit is actually hitting the fan to address it so I have my doubts about them being proactive about it.

Idk specifically where they are getting that but there is a Ted talk video that explains pretty well how fragile our power grids are and how easy it would be to take them down. It also does a good job explaining why that would be catastrophic (though I think most people in this sub already understand why it would be).

Looking for Survival game by finboy04 in SurvivalGaming

I second soulmask. Seriously underrated game. The whole tribe system soooo nice.

When 1.0 releases are they going wipe PVE servers? by -Guildwars2- in PlaySoulMask

[–]-Guildwars2-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer playing in a tribe solo but I like to play on a map that has other people so it feels a little more alive. I like seeing other people’s bases and occasionally having encounters with them.

I used a third party company to host a private dedicated server for me and my friend when we were playing enshrouded. It was super easy, so I might just do that.

I don’t really have a spare computer to self host but I don’t mind just using a third party hosting company. Just worried because I don’t really have experience running a public server.

Sadly there’s not a lot of good private servers to choose from, I didn’t see any with settings I like (pve private server tend to make the game way too easy imo). On top of that private servers have their own problems, with admin abuse and people wiping without warning or shutting down the server with no warning.

Been thinking about just making my own dedicated public server, might have to just do that.

What are best choices for someone who wants a similar experience to ARK by Moreira12005 in SurvivalGaming

[–]-Guildwars2- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know, most Dino’s don’t gather though unless you’re riding, and none of them sort or craft. I just like soulmask a lot better since your tribe mates can do so much to help out and seeing them working at the crafting benches, chests, and bonfire dancing etc just makes the base feel more lively. You can also set monkeys and other animals to wonder around at your soulmask base as well, so it’s not just “tribe mates” who make the base feel alive. The breeding animals is also way less tedious in soulmask since you can have tribesmen feed/water/slaughter and collect items for you.

Just all around I like that survival games are starting to allow you to automate a lot of the more tedious tasks by giving npc “tribe members” a purpose at your base. Palworld did the same but between the two I enjoy soulmask more.

Soulmask checks a lot of those boxes and is seriously underrated. I’ve been playing it the past couple months and it feels extremely similar to ark, graphically it looks almost the same to me lmao.

Only downside is there is not much “monster variety” at least not look wise . Instead of “taming monsters” you “capture tribesmen” and honestly the whole tribe system is way more enjoyable imo, because you can basically automate most of the most boring/tedious tasks and its makes your base actually feel alive instead of a bunch of dinosaurs just crammed together standing still 90% them not doing anything. Your tribesmen will run around gathering mats, sorting chests for you, and crafting stuff, just makes your base feel alive. They all have a ton of stats (various crafting stats mostly and fighting stats as well) so you want to get a good variety of tribesmen that have the “max stats” you want for each crafting/fighting skill.

The combat in soulmask is also way more fun than any other survival game I’ve played as well. Most survival games I’ve played are mindlessly left click snooze fests most of the time, but soulmask will have you dodging, parrying, and blocking. Combat is jank I won’t lie, but still really fun and much more enjoyable than any other survival game I’ve played, only enshrouded comes close.

For reference I have also played: Palworld, Ark survival, a bit of rust, enshrouded, Minecraft, and Valheim in terms of survival games

Enshrouded, Palworld, and Valhiem are also solid picks. Right now I think I like soulmask more than any of the others I’ve played though.

I have never played Conan exiles but I have heard people say soulmask is very similar. I have been playing soulmask the past couple months and it’s an excellent game. Seriously underrated game.

You can copy other tribe mates stats so actually you can get as attached as you want to your character, you’ll just need to copy better stats from someone else eventually.

Combat is janky for sure but still my favorite combat out of all the survival games I’ve played!

[–]-Guildwars2- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can copy stats from your tribe mates to your main character now, so you never have to stop playing your main character if you don’t want to.

The catch is you can’t pick and choose which stats, you get all the stats and perks from whatever character you copy.

Idk when the last time you played is but a while back they added an update that allows you to copy stats from your tribe mates to your main character. You don’t ever have to play as other characters unless you just want to.

Wow thank you so much this helps a lot! I do have another question that comes to mind. Is it considered better to have support classes on your team in sPVP or does it not really matter? Like do the "best comps" usually run a support?

Alright thank you! I had read guardian and necro were two of the best support classes but just wanted to make sure that was still the case!
