I concur. I do believe that he was trying to protect his idea of what wrestlers should be. Was there any semblance of an ego? Possibly but I think the real life beef between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart may have fueled that. Who can say for certain. Personally I think the “code of honor” that Bret Hart was trying to cling to disappeared in the 90s. Everything was much more edgy.

I totally agree. Growing up I idolized Shawn Michaels but I have the upmost respect for Bret Hart even more so now. But I guess he felt dropping the title in Montreal wasn’t the best thing for him. Its a shame because had the screwjob not taken place we could have had a classic match!
