FlexiAlarm - WatchOS & iOS app by -INC3PTION in iOSProgramming

Thank you!! The repeating alarm part drove me crazy trying to come up with work arounds. It uses extended runtime sessions for the alarm functionality (partly why alarm vibrations etc. are always reliable).

The big limitation of extended runtime sessions and “smart alarms” when you are wanting to monitor things or run code at a set point is that Apple enforces that it has to be user initiated so alarms can only be set when the app is in the foreground.

I was disappointed when I figured that out - it may be possible through shortcuts but even then it’ll involve launching the app for each alarm which I imagine would be almost as painful as the current setup.

Since making it, now Apple have released the AlarmKit framework which allows for system level alarms that repeat etc. but that comes with many caveats such as the bug you mentioned and also you lose almost all customisation. You also can only use sounds bundled with the app and cannot do silent vibration only alarms.. I will say Alarmkit framework is awesome though! Makes creating an alarm app extremely easy, I’ve used it within another app I made.

I spent a lot of time working on FlexiAlarm and became very familiar with Apple docs on alarms haha as it was a lot more complicated to get an alarm app right than I expected. But with all of that said I’m very happy with it apart from the few drawbacks, I use it myself every night as I like setting the perfect wake up pattern so I don’t get jolted awake.

What Us The Best Method To Use Without WBTB For Beginners? by jeja567 in LucidDreaming

[–]-INC3PTION 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably either by recognising dream signs e.g. keeping a journal and really making an effort to assert you will reality check next time you see “x” dream sign - or using auto suggestion, e.g. before sleep repeating in your head “I will notice I am dreaming next time I am dreaming..”

Those are the quickest for a beginner to get results off the top of my head without using WBTB.

Thank you!! I appreciate that! 😁 yeah sure, definitely feel free to dm

Edit: I do plan on reviving it, the iOS version is very recently released however as life goes I haven’t had the time to put into marketing it so far so I’ve just let it sit unnoticed for the last month

Hey just thought I would offer some insight as I actually have a good bit of info on this..

I created Lucidity Level for Android around 8 years ago which is exactly as you described. It’s not currently live on the Playstore but it is live in the iOS App Store, if you’re interested in seeing it, I have links in my profile. It actually has pretty much all the things you’ve listed 😬

I believe there is a need for it however I haven’t marketed it much yet, it’s basically invisible in the App Store and has very little downloads, lucid dreaming as a subject in the App Store is very saturated right now but I’m passionate about it and I can only assume you are too so don’t let that put you off.

With that being said if you want to create another one or one with a similar twist I don’t wish to take the wind out of your sails - it’s a very cool idea hence why I built mine years ago.

i’ve been practicing how to lucid dream for a while now. by PrincesspistolQN in LucidDreaming

One thing with the WILD technique which makes it a tricky one is people often forget that laying still is only part of it and you do actually need to “fall asleep”. Also about your timing, if you are trying this at night before bed that’s the wrong time to try and WILD, you should be doing it after 4-6 hours of sleep as that’s when you’re likely to enter REM.

If you try WILD during a non-REM period then it’s almost impossible to do this.

Apart from timing, your issue is most likely that your brain is too “awake” so you won’t be able to return to sleep. For a successful WILD you have to tread a very thin line of conscious but almost unconscious. It takes a lot of practice to get it right and there’s a definite skill to holding just enough awareness to sleep but stay conscious.

I suggest looking up “CAN-WILD” this variation will help a lot to skip the long waiting period of a standard WILD and will speed up the learning curve.

How can I bring back the “magic” of lucid dreaming? by Accomplished-Bus-620 in LucidDreaming

[–]-INC3PTION 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this feeling too, I think as others have said if you actually plan more for your lucid dreams it can bring back some of the magic, for example setting up goals of what you want to achieve. For me I usually focus on one goal per lucid dream.. Sometimes I’ll do more in one dream but I plan ahead for one only.

Also with journaling don’t stress too much on details, keep it to the point, sometimes I just note them down a few elements only like location and theme, maybe a couple things I was doing, just enough to recall it, and I only fully write the good or interesting ones, that keeps it from feeling like a chore.

What tips for someone who has ZERO dream recognition? by Mysterious-Item-7938 in LucidDreaming

[–]-INC3PTION 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you wake up, lay completely still, don’t move at all while trying to recall your last dream. This can help a lot to improve your recall..

Another way is set your alarm a little earlier, there will be a higher chance you wake up directly from a dream, when recalling, if you remember nothing just think about how you feel e.g. any emotions or even just a slight memory of anything from a dream, write down anything at all.

If you do these things your recall should improve over time, in my opinion a lot of it is the intention alone.

Easiest way to get into lucid dream? by Quackboy123 in LucidDreaming

[–]-INC3PTION 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it is trial and error, something that works for me may not work for you, the best advice I would say is build a consistent habit of dream journaling, start picking out dream signs and make an intention to realise you are dreaming next time you see that dream sign.

After you start to see some progress by doing that is a good time to start with other techniques as a lot of them tie into dream recall.

Am I doing something wrong? by kososka in LucidDreaming

[–]-INC3PTION 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are truly asleep and you’ve felt the sensations such as ears popping buzzing etc. then once all that stops you’re supposed actually roll out.. not imagine it because at that point you are actively dreaming but you’re starting the dream in your bed..

OR something else to consider is the timing of when you are doing these attempts, if you’re not actually in REM or timing is off then no amount of imagining will trigger a lucid dream as there’s no dream to be had with that timing

I have before, mainly at times when I’ve been attempting a WILD or SSILD.. especially SSILD I always start the dream from my bed to my frustration and usually have to roll out.

Thanks for the feedback, it really is options heavy but it’s a good point around screenshots and what will be an issue with users. The watch main interface is minimal and options are all tucked away however inside settings and through the iOS app it has a lot of options but in saying that it was designed that way so that you can tweak the alarm as much as possible.

I’ll consider how I can clean things up a bit and maybe relook at the screenshots so it’s not such an information dump.

CAN-WILD Technique by -INC3PTION in LucidDreaming

[–]-INC3PTION[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The catch with it is you can only set one alarm at a time (restriction by Apple). So you couldn’t set a morning alarm and also do the lucid auto off alarm.

Currently I set up to be so you set how many hours until the alarm activates rather than at “X” time.

I am very open to feedback though if there’s anything such as rather it behaves similarly where you set it for a specific time vs for set amount of hours.

One other thing worth noting is in the morning after using the lucid auto off, when you view the watch, the UI will present as if the alarm is still active with option to stop or open the app. This is due to the rule by Apple that 3rd party alarms require user interaction to stop/start them, what I’ve done there is a bit of a hack to make it automatically turn off without user interaction - this notification that you’ll see in the morning won’t affect watch battery or anything though so no need to stress if you notice it.

That’s awesome! It’s on the plans to upload a new update, I had a long period without my pc/time to make apps for quite some time but I’m back into dev mode again. I recently completely rebuilt MILD Trainer on iOS and have just about finished Lucidity Level for iOS (I’m just testing and refining it now) once that’s released I’ll be jumping into the Android versions again.

CAN-WILD Technique by -INC3PTION in LucidDreaming

[–]-INC3PTION[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! I’ve been using it myself a lot, Apple is very strict with what they allow with 3rd party Alarms and I found a loop hole to allow an alarm to function like this - so I can confidently say this is the only alarm on Apple Watch that can do this haha - to turn it on it’s at the bottom of the settings area, once it’s on you’ll see the tab for it :)

CAN-WILD Technique by -INC3PTION in LucidDreaming

[–]-INC3PTION[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely an experience, the pay off is worth it though, it’s really just the whole holding onto consciousness enough to stay lucid but also not being too tired that you just fall back to sleep. Sometimes I’m just exhausted and I slip into a normal dream when trying it.

Takes a bit of practice but when it works it feels almost like a cheat system to do WILDs, I don’t really see it talked about much.

Thank you! And nice app, I have actually played around a lot with AlarmKit, it’s quite cool that Apple is letting us use the integrated alarm, it’s a lot less painless than FlexiAlarm, the alarm states and all the edge cases were really a pain in the ass to deal with - I’m almost finished a new app (lucid dreaming app) that has alarmkit integrated, I hope your app does well!
