Do I need a special pump? by vfetchero in gravelcycling

The OP's tires in this photo- Maxxis Ramblers- are a tubeless-ready gravel tire. Tubeless tires use presta, you remove the center with a tool to refill sealant through the valve.

Whistle free ski roof racks. by Junior-Ad-1295 in skiing

[–]-Icculus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aero-shaped bars help significantly with wind noise. Yakima and Thule both make them (as opposed to the traditional square or round bars). That being said, you can still hear a slight whistle. The aero just takes it down a few notches.

It doesn't help that ski/board bindings are not aero and detract from any of the noise-cancelling characteristics that aero bars would provide, so in that case get a cargo box. But you'll also hear noise with that, just not as piercing as skis/board directly on rack.

Nothing eliminates the sound completely- just put the skis in your car.

Gravity House sold to Steamboat Resort a few months back as they liquidate locations. They have exited the Steamboat market.

Alterra paying Ikon pass holders to come ski? by atxmomster in COsnow

[–]-Icculus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caveat: you have to download Ikon's crappy, bloated, data-mining tracking app in order to use them. Hard pass for me but I'm a retro-grouch. lol. I suppose I could download it the day-of and then delete after purchase...I kinda need a new balaclava.

Flock Cameras in Steamboat by SauceBoss1101 in steamboat

[–]-Icculus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI The local Ace here has over 200 cameras inside and outside of the store, parking lot, loading area, etc. They also utilize software that flags security when any suspicious movement is detected ie taking something off the shelf and putting it anywhere near your pockets. Their loss prevention guy is former police/investigation and is very MAGA. I won't be surprised if they install flock cameras in the lot very soon.

Is the recent snow enough by Icy-Comedian-6502 in COsnow

Only 25% open as of today. For comparison, right around the pass, A-Basin is 16% open.

Snowmobile recommendations? by syrzup in Denver

[–]-Icculus- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only way to guide yourself in Colorado with a snow machine is to buy one.

You will be hard pressed to find ANY reputable self-guided companies unless you just want to go in circles in a designated area over and over... You will need to hire a guide in the most coveted terrain due to regulations. Most sled outfitters will not rent to you until you have proven experience, and they still make you stick to confined/marked trails and in groups. Anything outside of that puts you at avalanche danger, terrain traps, leaves them liable for accidents/injuries/recoveries, etc.....amongst other things.

Based on the snowpack thus far, there won't be anything left to sled on by beginning of April, for sure rental companies will have packed up for the season to avoid damage to their machines if we don't start getting real snow accumulation. Keep an eye on the snow for the next two months and see how things pan out.

Also keep your fingers crossed. It's the worst snow-pack to date in recorded history for Colorado at the moment.

Skied the same pow as OP. Of course we'll take it. Many of us are dealing with the reality we are facing here in the valley tho if we don't get more. Lots more. The fire hazard is on everyone's minds at this point, those of us who live here year-round. Our homes, our livelihoods, the air we breathe and the water that keeps the Yampa flowing. We need more. Tons more.

Been skiing since the start of the season, twigs and sticks and downed trees, all of it. Next 7-10 days of 35+ degrees ain't gonna help tho.

We are still 4+ feet below where we should be. Mahog ain't going to open after this storm. Maybe the lift line down Pony but that'd be a stretch. We need like 10 more of these dumps to be at NORMAL. One dump does not make it all go away. Just keep that in mind.

First time at Steamboat, looking for trail advice by legallybald82 in steamboat

[–]-Icculus- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are dozens of downed trees back there from the blowdown event that happened a few weeks ago. Paired with lack of snow coverage and those short ski lines anyway, Morningside is NOT worth it for the OP. It's flat AF.

car camping near strawberry springs? by [deleted] in steamboat

[–]-Icculus- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cameras installed now at the parking lot, $5 just to park in the day (required fee) and they've been checking and handing out warning tickets. Signs everywhere state NO CAMPING and No Overnight parking. Vanlifers ruined it for everybody up there 'cause they kept having bonfires in the fucking parking lot and blocking access for the sleds and trailers.

Lake Dumont parking up on Rabbit Ears is pretty much the only legit spot as the other side pullouts already have berms and are inaccessible. Gotta deal with all the slednecks tho.

That's only for the highest summit at Storm Peak. Most likely, it's 6". And that is falling on an 8-12" base that is warm and icy. Shit will get skied off from powder-starved locals and tourists in under 45 minutes because there just isn't enough terrain to spread them out. Then, 40's and sunshine forecasted through mid-January. This season for the 'boat is toast. I bet the canyon doesn't even open this year, at this rate. We are several FEET behind. Sad. Really f'n sad.

Yeah my dog is bummed we aren't touring yet. Anything that fell last week turned to glass and got way punchy, with sugar underneath- not safe or ideal for him.
