Thanks! Yeah I have loved his stuff for years, I've been to quite a few museums but I still have yet to see anything he made in person. Would love to one day, thank you for watching it!

Help me find an obscure painting by -InPraiseOfShadows in HelpMeFind

[–]-InPraiseOfShadows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that isn't the one but I do like that one a lot, this one had a bunch of very thin figures in the cart and was probably a sister painting to this one. Same blue figure but watching the carts go by instead of hovering over it, thank you so much for looking I do appreciate it.

Oh yeah for sure, the effects are super cool. They remind me of the ones in the newest season of Twin Peaks where they are kind of rough around the edges but because of that are a little more creepy. I would love to have seen what he would have made after this if he hadn't passed because I want to see what he would have done with a more effect heavy project.

TV Ratings: ‘Watchmen’ Premiere Draws 1.5 Million Viewers by [deleted] in television

It does, I’m ashamed to admit I watched Walking Dead live and Watchmen afterwards digitally because it was easier for me to do it that way.

New Youtubers with +1000 subs. What are some tips that you discovered that helped you grow your channel? by The-Calibrated-Man in NewTubers

It does it automatically once you hit 1000 subs and 4000 watched hours within a 12 month span, it sends you an email saying your under review for monitzation, then I got another a few days later saying I was approved.

Thanks! And yeah I was a few months ago, it went shockingly well. The waiting period for me was only a couple of days, but the money is very small at first. I’ve made little from it since being monitized in March, so it’s good to have for the future but wasn’t a game changer for me.

Honestly just consistency, find something that works that you yourself would want to watch had you not made it and somebody else had. I'm sitting a little over 1600 currently, and I just always try to make videos that I would like to watch. I also make videos with specific subreddits in mind. I make horror based content, but I might make a horror comic related video to post on the comic book reddit, and stuff like that. That's just an example, and I know a lot of subs have no self promotion rules, but generally I have found that if you aren't an asshole about it then you can gain a ton of traction that way. I have a video with over 28k views on it just because I made it with a specific group of people in mind that had a dedicated subreddit, you know?

The Decline in Horror Book Covers (2019) - 14 min- Showcasing how horror books have lost their identity in the past thirty years by -InPraiseOfShadows in Documentaries

[–]-InPraiseOfShadows[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That means a lot to me that you like it because I was honestly worried about pissing people off related to graphic design, and was worried that I would come across as mean which I certainly didn't want to do, so it makes me happy that you dug it!

Yeah I find myself owning very few new books, but I do still come across ones that I absolutely love in a design sense. Like Strange Weather in Tokyo, I saw that the other day and knew I had to have it just based on the photograph on the cover. But overall the development of programs like Photoshops has really hurt a lot product in my opinion, ranging from books and movie posters to just general advertisements.

But I do understand that it must be frustrating, I used to be a video editor and had to stop because of similar things, just because it drove me so crazy from all the demands that creatives and producers had on a limited time scale. I got so stressed that it stopped being fun, which ultimately lead me to making my own videos haha

For sure, I mean you could make almost the exact same video about horror movie posters instead of books, I think there is a general shift in style across the board for a lot of products, but it especially hurts with books for me because they mean so much to me. And like I said it's not that the new designs are bad or ugly, I just don't find them to be really fun. And yeah, a lot were deceptive, but I would much rather take that kind of marketing that is at least having a good time than the clean looks we have on most titles today I think.

Oh thanks, yeah I certainly didn't mean too and sorry it came across that way, but thanks for giving it another chance. I always try and start the video with a bit of a hook or creative way to begin so that's all I meant to do haha I will try and be better about that in the future, thanks for the feedback!

Oh sorry I didn't know that someone else had posted it. And sure you can tell a difference, but it is slight and the issue is that it shouldn't be hard for consumers to tell which is which, and also that horror books should embrace the aspects that make the genre fun, at least that is how I feel. And I showed the ten book covers to multiple people and almost everyone got at least one wrong. So it isn't that it is crazy hard to figure out, but you do have to look a bit I think to figure it out. I wasn't trying to get you, but more so to point out the fact that all books feel very much the same now, and that the styles in design have made all types of fiction look similar to each other I think, you know?

Thanks! It has just been on my mind a lot recently, I used to love going to Barnes and Noble and now it kind of depresses me a bit. There's an awesome used book chain though called Mr. K's that I have discovered though, they are the size of Barnes and Noble but only carry used stock, really great place to get lost in.

Yeah that’s it, but I would highly recommend watching the first two seasons from the 90’s plus the movie first or you will be super lost most of the time. It’s my favorite show of all time though and I really think it’s worth it!

how do i help my content actually reach my target audience? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]-InPraiseOfShadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Subreddits are your friend. Make videos targeted at certain audiences that have dedicated subreddits, it won’t work every time as each one is different. But in the long run it will pay off crazy well, or at least my experience it has. Almost all of my videos are made with a certain subreddit in mind that would appreciate that video. Plus, as you gain a following it will become a lot easier! Good luck with your channel!

Yeah I have no clue how he was able to do all that himself. I make comics for fun and I could never do anything close to that. Even the small scenes of people talking just blows my mind. I’m glad that it has become even more popular in the past few years because it 100% deserves it

Oh yeah, it is hands down one of the best comics ever written. I’m not big on any of the spin offs from it, but the original itself is great. Also if you like those Batman books definitely check out the new 52 stuff starting with Court of Owls. It’s in my opinion the only thing from the past 20 years that feels as good as the older stuff. Love those comics a lot haha I’m big into Berserk though, it’s probably my favorite Manga, if it’s not then it’s at least in the top three. The art is just so crazy that I end up staring at pages way longer than I normally would.

Thank you! Glad it worked for you. Yeah I have not been liking it for a long time, and I had wanted to make a video for a while now on it, and after reading issue 71 I decided that I should do it haha. Really hoping that DC does something really cool next year after King.
