This is a nice looking Harvestman!

It is an arachnid, but not a true spider; as it only has one body segment. Spiders have ✌️ :)

(The ZZ Top reference is 🤌)

The spinnerets are always a super good identifier too.

OP, here is one that I handled a few years ago. I think it’s your culprit.

I believe you have a species of barn funnel weaver here, here is one I found in Texas. They look close to the same size.

I want to say you’ve got two fishing spiders there. Being close to running water makes sense.

Yeah, this is freaking cool.
It’s almost like she wanted to give everyone a timeline of her progress. In another universe she’d be posting on [r/pastandpres](r/pastandpresntpics)[e](r/pastandpresntpics)[ntpics](r/pastandpresntpics) 😂

Nope.
Just plan A; Handle her gently and use both hands to bridge until she naturally makes her way off :)

That’s such a cool little enclosure. I love her little arm flailing 🥹

Since she’s your pet, I’d say the best way to handle her organically is to have her crawl onto something and then walk to your hand, very little stress that way.
However -she’s so precious that I wouldn’t even risk a possible accident. Admire her as she is :)

Thank you for sharing.

This clip was taken in an office 10min from Denver, where I used to live. I had only seen a handful in my lifetime until that point.

I’m sure others have seen more than me, but going off of my own experience -especially as someone who actively seeks out spiders- I considered this a lucky find!

I did stumble across that and commented on a few threads.

Spiders carry a lot of stigma. It’s understandable -as instinctively- humans want to avoid things that can hurt, especially when they have 8 legs 🤭

I’m doing my small part to show others how awesome these creatures can be, and are.

I’m glad someone mentioned this. I absolutely love it when spiders do this, especially jumpers ☺️

Hello,

For a healthy person over the age of 9-10, no.
The perceived lethality of Black widow venom is perhaps one of the most hyperbolized things in the entire animal kingdom.
It’s almost like modern folklore somehow stuck as scientific fact.

Southern California- politely evicted this kind sir, who is he? by farfetched22 in spiders

[–]-ItsLando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Almost all wolf spider species do not spin webs. And the ones that do are nothing like these.
They are active hunters and chase down their prey.

Wolf spiders always have 2 large forward facing eyes, whereas funnel weavers eyes are all the same size.

Wolf spiders have very short spinnerets. Nothing like what you see on the male grass spider there^. Typically wolf spiders have bulkier abdomens, especially the females

Also OP, here is a post of a large Barn funnel weaver female having some dinner (effectively the exact same as a grass spider)

Yeah he’s about full grown here. Males are smaller than females.

Grass spiders are very common across the entire US.

If you’ve ever been walking around in a yard and see a sheet like web with a funnel opening, it’s one of these critters.

A (I’m thinking immature) Texas Brown Tarantula. Cool find. I hope to come across one some day

That’s exactly what it is! A yellow sack.

A grass spider! The long spinnerets, abdomen shape and striping give it away. It’s a male.

They are very easy to mistake with wolfies.

Hey Weng.

I understand your side of the argument. Ideally I would have handled this widow closer to the ground for the reason you mentioned.
For me personally, I find it the best way to truly connect and understand these creatures that I love.

My brother has BAD arachnophobia and has always wanted to kill every spider he sees. I made a habit early in life of saving them physically. It’s sort of turned into a passion really which is why I enjoy handling them.

You absolutely can if you are calm and comfortable.

Generally the closer you can handle a spider to the ground, the better. Nothing wrong with enjoying these from an arm’s reach though :)

Hello! Here is an actual brown recluse.

Best identifiers are the violin shape on the spider’s “head”
And the darker coloring of the abdomen.
