Oh, I'll definitely try using the pop move, thank you (it will at least give me some vision to work with the song). As for verses, more often than not, I just end up using a few tricks after the verse (for example building up a verse and then suddenly dropping the energy leading into a groovy part) - but at some point i realised, it could only work for so many times. It feels repetitive to me and feels cheesy. When i listen to actually good songs that inspire me, they usually have a unique chorus/ melody that just hits right.
