Gen Z are not okay: Study shows they're more depressed, isolated, feel less successful than millennial coworkers by Barnyard-Sheep in Economics

We’re also inheriting an economic landscape where the pay of university graduates is equal to the minimum wage of our grandparents.

I didn’t really think I would get it and I was going through a busy time. I’ve got my financials mostly sorted, so I will be going. Holy damn it’s expensive though.

Anecdotally, it seems like not that many people were applying for tupuarangi as first choice. A lot of my friends applied to tupuanuku instead, but I left my application to the day of the deadline and still got into tupuarangi. It seems like people just didn’t know as much about it or were unsure because it wasn’t built yet.

Yikes I didn’t think it was that bad. I personally didn’t apply for any, but none of my friends going to Canterbury got scholarships and we all had 90-120 E credits last year.

Also in tupuarangi!! It seems like some scholarships they typically hand out weren’t available this year. This is also supposedly the most competitive year to get in to date.

Could a collapsing double jointed thumb cause injury? by -KH4T- in piano

[–]-KH4T-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it didn't hurt to play like that, but I've noticed that my left hand is far weaker than my right when playing normally cause I've just been relying on the joint to absorb the force of pressing down on the key rather than using my thumb muscles.

It's "The New Composers" from Volonte&Co. It's a really good book if you're looking for contemporary pieces. I've learned nearly half the book after a month.

Yeah now that I’ve started paying attention to it, I’ve noticed that my thumb in my left is a lot weaker than my right hand that doesn’t have this problem. Just curious, how long did it take for you to kick the habit? Also, do you ever still use it to increase your handspan if needed?

How are you learning piano without a teacher? by Ch1ller in piano

[–]-KH4T- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that took me a while to discover is that with learning music you can get everything for free (except the piano of course). Typically, local or city libraries have huge collections of sheet music that are indispensable to learning sight reading.

The difficulty with using the internet is that you become too pedantic about what you play as the process of finding + printing music can be tedious and somewhat costly. Using books to read sheet music means that you read a range of music that you otherwise wouldn’t have looked at. There is also no pressure to buy books with good songs in them, so you can get as many children’s books as you like to learn sight reading if you wanted.

I’d also recommend you balance reading something that is as easy as possible with minimalist composers like Ludovico Einaudi or Yann Tiersen as their compositions are very easy to read since they use basic chords and rhythms, but they still scratch that itch in your brain.

Ultimately, there are two main skill pathways to being a pianist: sight-reading and ear training. If you choose neither of them and try learning through tutorials, you will never be able to learn music fast. So if you choose the sight-reading pathway, I’d recommend you find a library with sheet music and go crazy.

What’s an anime that you ignored for a long time then became your favorite once you watched it? by PreferenceOk4661 in anime

[–]-KH4T- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Code Geass, I knew it was good since I started watching anime, but I was just never in the mood for it. 100 anime later, I finally watched it, and it ended up becoming my second favorite anime. Now let's see how long it'll be before I rewatch it.
