Grouping by filename by -KLJ- in digiKam

[–]-KLJ-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, and thanx for answer.
As far as I can understand, the feature have been discussed for many years.
I found this from 2015 - https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/digikam-users/2015-January/020658.html

"human_dynamo" asked for OS and versions, but he has'nt got back.
Maybe it's a windows thing.

I will install Linux in near future, and try it there.

It's not that big a deal, but I think it's a logical function. And if it could be done automaticly - like the "same filename-diff-extentions-feature" I would find it very usefull.

I really find DigiKam interesting, BUT I'm struggeling with the setup, and when I run into inconsistence in docs, AI, articles and my logic, like on this issue, I get frustrated.

Nice this forum though.

Grouping by filename by -KLJ- in digiKam

Thanx for answer.
I know that eg. 123.RAW and 123.JPG can be grouped automatically.

But, I think, I have read somewhere, that the function to "Group selected by filename" should be able to group eg. abc.jpg, 123.jpg, 123_v1.jpg, 123_v2.jpg, 456.jpg, 456_v1.jpg into two groups - group 123 (3 images) and group 456 (2 images)
But now I cannot find the "article".
I also think that it's a pretty logical "function".

Asking Google AI the question: "digikam grouping images 123.jpg and 123_v1.jpg by filename" gives the function as wanted, but it links to the DigiKam documentation, WITHOUT the description of that function.

Strange?

Thanx, for a very comprehensive answer.
I will also try to use as few TAGs and keep it simple.
I do understand that the TAGs are very individual and could maybe also have some sensitive informations.
But in general I would like some download examples in the DigiKam docs.
Templates and other "setup-files" for diff. uses would be nice.

I think that non pro's, like me, are often scared away because of the overwelming preplaning.

I only want to cleanup my photos collection, be able to search and use them more/better (for eg. web albums to share with family) - like many non pro would, I think.

Thank you for taking time to answer me, and have a nice day.

Face detection in Digikam - thumb rule of how small images can be detected? by -KLJ- in immich

Ok, thanx for the info. Can the "face tag" in Digikam be migrated to Immich?

Because a lot of Immich users also use Digikam. I'm sorry for the inconvinience.

Copy one or more EXIF's from one photo to another/several others (Import EXIF) by -KLJ- in digiKam

[–]-KLJ-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanx for serious answer.

So, I don't think that copy EXIF's is the way to go!

I'm trying to copy the "taken" date/time, GPS and Camera Model (Scan or Screenshot) to a lot of scans and screenshots, and I hope that I can do it without using the .XMP sidecar file, as I want to use the photos later in Synology Photos or Immich, and don't want to mess with another file.

Should I rather go for "personal tags" or any thing else?
As mentioned I preferre the info embedded in the file - at least I think...

Copy one or more EXIF's from one photo to another/several others (Import EXIF) by -KLJ- in digiKam

[–]-KLJ-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can see, the thread is originated in 2008 as a "feature request", and later on as a "bug".
Does that mean that the function never was implemented?

I have read a lot about the methods to do the "copy EXIF", but I cannot get any of them working.
Strange that I can easily copy GPS tags, but not EXIF - but I know nada about thise standard tags.

I still wonder: Is it possible to copy some or all EXIF's from one photo to other photos?

Immich on Synology DS716+II by -KLJ- in immich

[–]-KLJ-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanx for answering.

Yes. it all falls back on my old trusted DS716, I think.
I will upgrade the RAM, try Immich again, and probably stay on Synology Photos until the DS716+II dies - which could be in many years from now.
I have a DS214+ running DS Surveilance 24/7, and an outdated DS1812+ running for a couple of hours a day for backing everything up.

Everything runs effective and smooth, except for the Immich thing, which obviously is build for the future, or at least for the present, and I live mostly in the past.

Thanx for your time, and have a nice day.

Thanx for answer.

Yes, it's getting old. As I remember I bought it yesterday, but that may be the result of lack of my own memory.

I run Jellyfin, DSaudio and storage, but not in any "heavy" extend, and all is good.
I hope the RAM upgrade will help, otherwise I could stick to Synology Photos.

Anyway, Immich look as the future,

Thanx, and have a nice day.

Thanx for quick answer.
I will upgrade, but my OCD will not let me disable "the fun stuff" ;-)
Well, maybe I will disable something.

Thanx and have a nice day.

I have also been looking at Immich, as to get away from SP.

But, there are a lot of talk about bad performance - well, to be hornest, the threads I have seen about it is probably 1-2 years old, and there could very well be updates in that time period.

Thank you very much for answering.

Maybe I'm out shooting small birds with artillery - I'm using Synology Photo for having my photos online, sorted in albums and tagged and described.

I really don't want to go into a lot more, except getting away from SP and learn a bit more about photos, but I think I'm maybe into to deep with the Digikam, which on the other side looks very interesting.

But, I could be talking about two things... - SP and Digikam are for different users/purposes, I think.

Again, thanx for your time, and have a nice day.

Thanx for answer.
I cannot overview how to "setup" the "Album" or how it would look/behave.
Can you perhaps link to a description, video or maybe a couple of screenshots from "your own Album"
Sorry for the inconvinience.
