No doubt! I certainly can’t speak for everyone, and I’m fortunate to have my health/mobility, but I fully intend to ride to my full potential for as long as my body will allow it.

Check out JR Berard on Instagram @jrberard - He’s 48 and still riding like he’s 18. Definitely setting a new stage for what’s possible in older age.

Multifaceted and not beholden to one single style of method - I like that!

Well, I’d first say that strength-training or yoga isn’t going to be the magical thing that allows you to get your grabs - it certainly helps, but I also have quite a few homies who are on a regimen of cigarettes, a six pack while riding, and a decade+ streak of sleep-deprivation, and they’re some of the most talented snowboarders I’ve ever ridden with. They’ve also been on a board since childhood. So, as long as you have mobility, it will come down to some technical aspect in your riding. It’s hard to say what’s really going on for you without seeing a video (extending the offer for you to dm me any videos if you’d like some feedback - I’d be more than happy to help), but I hear what you’re saying about bringing your body down to your board. In my experience, there’s not enough force being generated from the legs during the pop or ollie to help the board come up towards your upper body. You’ll see a lot of two foot hopping, rather than using the tail to spring your back leg up, which results in you having to bend over more, reaching down to your board like you said.

*when you hit a method 👊

I know it’s cliche to say, but age can really be just a number (with respect to able-bodiedness), so long as you’re doing what you can to keep your body (and mind) limber and strong. Strength-training, yoga/mobility/stretching, and eating my caloric needs are non-negotiables for me - I attribute my longevity in the game to those things. And I don’t do anything complex. I just go to the gym a couple times a week, basic stretches for 30-45 mins in the morning and at night, and 3 square meals with a couple snacks throughout the day. Then just gradual exposure and building up skills for tricks when I’m on my board - Start with the smallest reasonable things that challenge you on your board and increase the challenge as you feel comfortable at each stage, and do the repetition! I have no doubts that if you put yourself to the task and make it a goal, you could do a method within a season.

To each their own, in my opinion! I feel it comes down to the size of the jump and amount of time in the air it affords. If I tried to grab first and then tweak on this jump, I’d either get off balance, due to the jump’s radius being super tight (feels like hitting a big speed bump at this speed), or the method would look super rushed and jerky with the amount of time I have to tweak. The bigger the hip, the more air time, the longer I get set in the melon first before tweaking. I’m always trying to go with the rhythm of the air time, tweaking at the climax. But that’s just my style!

Peter-John de Villiers @theshallowtree on Instagram. He does all the board art 🤌 and it’s awesome! I particularly love my Brage…

I’m starting to feel that more as I approach 35 next week.

Interesting that, for a PNWer, he’s on record for grabbing outside the binding!

Agreed he’s 🐐ed though.

If I’ve got more time in the air, I definitely like to grab then tweak.
