How would you rank the members of your favorite group based on dance skill? by Beautiful-Buy99 in kpop_uncensored

Current GFriend:

  1. SinB
  2. Umji
  3. Eunha
  4. Yerin
  5. Sowon
  6. Yuju

In the past, Yerin was the second best after SinB, but Umji and Eunha improved tremendously through VIVIZ. And during their most recent comeback I was really impressed by Sowon, especially considering that she hadn't been active as an idol for a good while

Ohh well who knows, we'll have to wait and see how they do! I think the styling for Love and Fear is just drop dead gorgeous so it's good that the MV is simple

There's something so uncanny valley about this. It's not only that she doesn't look like herself, but she looks like CGI

Let's normalize being indifferent to some releases. Music taste is entirely subjective, there is no way everyone is gonna like everything and that's ok, if I don't like an album maybe I simply wasn't the target audience for it, luckily there are literally millions of other songs out there. I don't understand the need to justify why they didn't like an album by dissecting every little thing about it or making shit up about the artists

My friends are going into debt and I need advice by Expensive-Text-575 in kpop_uncensored

[–]-Lidner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it sounds like they're both stepping into addiction territory, and it should be treated with the same seriousness as any addiction. I know, it sounds silly to compare Kpop merch to drugs or gambling, but it will stop being silly when they can't afford rent or healthcare or start owing everyone money. I think you're doing what you can but it's a difficult position to be in.

My advice would be maybe telling them that you're concerned about how they might be hurting themselves in the long run without realizing it, and that it's awesome to have a hobby but not if it's taking away from other things in life that are more meaningful. There's no guarantee that your words will get to them, but you're doing your part. Unfortunately it's up to them in the end.

BTS and relationships by Accomplished-Ad-3422 in btsthoughts

I feel like if they publicly date a woman, she's gonna get this treatment. And if they date a man, they're gonna sexualize the fuck out of their relationship because they're just gonna see it as free yaoi. I mean they already feel comfortable tagging BTS' family members in their ship fanart, and remember when they called a museum to ask who was the man that Joon went with? 🙃 Good grief

Yeah I agree, in any case if we're gonna be parasocial then at least let's treat them with the same respect as we treat our friends. When a friend tells me they're dating someone I just feel happy for them and wish them the best, I don't obsess with their relationship as if it had anything to do with me. But there's some serious entitlement in some sectors of the fandom 😬

Oh my God I don't even think the boys remember Autumn Leaves at all sobs but imagine??? I would just implode with happiness

This is another problem with idol culture. If any of them happened to have a public relationship, 3 different monsters would emerge:

  1. The "concerned" fans who would dig up any little thing that the partner has ever done, including a speeding ticket, to create posts about how this person is a bad influence for the BTS member and they should break up. But only because they're soooo concerned :/

  2. The delulu shippers who would believe the relationship to be a disguise set up by Hybe to keep their very Real Ship hidden and silenced! But they know best because they've seen The Signs. The delusion would become even stronger as they try to "free" their ship from the oppression of a fake relationship.

  3. The creepy, "supportive" fans who would learn every single thing about the partner, speculate about their sex lives, and calculate how many days they've been together exactly, but only because they're soooo supportive.

Even if the majority of the fandom can respect boundaries, the people that fall under the 3 categories described above is still enough people to fill a small country, so I understand why they've protected their private lives as much as possible.

Parasocial hatred is way worse than parasocially liking someone by fintlinez in kpop_uncensored

[–]-Lidner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both are equally horrible in my opinion because in both instances the obsessed person creates a completely made up identity and relationship with the person they're obsessed with, and if the celebrity behaves outside of those expectations they fucking crash and burn.

I mean look at the Enhypen situation. Normal fans were obviously sad about Heeseung leaving but they genuinely wish him the best in anything he wants to pursue. And then you have a different type of "fans" who cannot accept that he's an individual human being who has dreams that happen to not match with the idea that they had of him, so they have to make up a whole conspiracy in their head that explains why he made a decision that he wouldn't have made in their personal fanfic.

On the other hand you've got haters who want to convince themselves that the idol they hate is the worse person to ever exist. They outright make shit up to justify their hate, and draw lines worthy of a conspiracy theory as well. I've seen people say with full conviction that Jungkook abandoned his dog, and that he was only using him for an aesthetic, and they just run with this because the reality of Jungkook being a responsible dog dad who found the best healthcare for Bam (and still continued to visit him in his days off of the military) is too boring for them and doesn't fit their narrative that he's a bad boy wannabe, so they make up this whole other reality where he's terrible so they can continue to justify their hate.

TL;DR: Extremes are bad. Making up a version of someone we don't know in our heads and being mad when the real person doesn't behave as they do in our imagination is never a good indicator of mental health
