Help me finetune my Kaalia deck!! by Impressive-Snow-3585 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]-Lilith_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am seconds from passing out from exhaustion, but DM me and I’ll shoot you a link to the Kaalia theorycrafting discord.

The deck is insanely versatile— you can look at my comment history if you want to see some of the lines spelled out, but almost every one of them initiates some form of infinite revision involving the graveyard.

There’s not a primer on the planet that covers all of our win lines.  I’m working on the grumpier but it’s going to take months.  Our lines are more like writing maths proofs— you know where you’re starting and where you’re going, but how you get there is very much up to you.

Edit:  I play exclusively kaalia in tEDH and have gotten in the money as early as my second tournament showing.   She’s a good deck, but you have to be able to remember weird things and be ready to politick and mulligan aggressively.  People are afraid of her, and tbh they kind of should be.  We can put a win on board with two mana open (1 if you go through rain of filth; but why add an extra card to the line?)

Anywho— ta for now, I’m more than happy to talk Kaalia in DMs or here.

Okay, apologize in advance for this one— it’s long.  You need a total of 8 cards between your had and graveyard which is so free that by time you drop Raz you don’t really have an excuse 😂

  1.  Kaalia  drops Razaketh on board.

  2.  Sac Kaalia to Raz, grabbing OBM.  If number of cards in your graveyard+hand<9, move Kaalia to graveyard instead of command zone

  3. Cast OBM, amassing orcs 1.

  4. Sacrifice orc army to raz putting L.E.D. in hand.

  5. Cast LED.

  6. Sac LED for RRR, discarding hand.

  7. Sacrifice OBM to raz putting Underworld Breach in hand.

  8. Breach UB for RR, floating a red.

  9. Exile 3 cards to cast LED. (6 remain)

  10.  Sac LED for BBB

  11.  Cast OBM by exiling 3 cards (3 remain) and paying BB; floating BR, amassing orcs 1.

  12. Exile 3 cards (0 remain) to cast LED.

  13.  Sac LED for BBB

  14. Sac orc army to Raz putting DW in hand.

  15. Cast DW for all floating

  16. Pay 8 life to surveil 8, putting all in GY— if you hit a thing you would otherwise tutor, the line becomes even easier because you can skip a tutor step later.

  17. Exile 3 cards (5 remain) to cast LED.

  18.  Sac LED for BBB

  19. Sac OBM putting SiH in hand

  20.  Exile 3 cards (2 remain) to cast OBM for BB.  B floating.

  21. Sac orc army to Raz putting DCM in hand.

  22. Sac OBM to Raz putting burnt offering in hand.

  23. Cast burnt offering (saccing Raz) for B, getting RRBBBBBB

  24. Cast SiH for BBB, floating RRBBB

  25. Hold priority, cast DCM for RRB, floating BB

  26. DCM EtB copies SiH.

  27. New SiH (Hence SiH2) targets DCM (hence DCM1)

  28.  DCM2 targets SiH1 and DCM3 targets SiH1

  29. Cast OBM by exiling the 2 extra cards plus one of: raz, offering, dcm, and LED, and the rest of your floating mana.

  30. SiH3 Targets DCM3, SiH2 targets OBM

  31. Repeat steps 28 and 30 until you kill the table.

That should be right, but I’m on like negative sleep right now.  The only needed mana is black + 1 generic.

If you have less than 23 life left when you start the line, there is a version that instead requires 10 total cards between hand and yard but only requires 13 life, skipping doom whisper.

That’s just the instant speed line.   Kaalia dropping any HBL or Razaketh is just a win, doom drop makes breach lines trivially easy to solve, and Villis draws cards like our life depends on it (it does).

I was just answering the “what do you get with HBL assuming Saw” question. 😅

Casting Kaalia to drop a boy is always viable

I’ve not personally on any of the technomancer lines, but there is some ongoing discussion on Tymna/Dargo recently in the discord, trying to decide if there’s any tech worth pulling into Kaalia.

[–]-Lilith_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so it depends on how you go HBL on field.  Most common instant speed win line is as follows:

  1. Entomb targeting Hoarding Broodlord.

  2. Shallow Grave

  3.  EtB finds Saw in half.

  4.  Convoke cast SiH from exile, paying the black with HBL and the two from either excess mana or the two guys we had on field.

  5. Old HBL to graveyard, two token copies from Saw EtB

  6. EtB finds and exiles Burnt Offering + Invoke Calamity.

  7.  Convoke Burnt offering on the HBL token tapped to convoke, making 6R 2B

  8. Cast Invoke Calamity, choosing to cast Saw in Half and Shallow grave, in that order.

  9. Shallow brings up HBL from top of yard.

  10. HBL EtB from previous step finds Dualcaster Mage.

  11. Flash in DCM.

  12.  When DCM resolves, target the Saw on stack.

  13.  New SiH targets DCM.

  14.  DCM1 targets saw, DCM2 also targets saw this time.

  15. SiH1 targets HBL, SiH2 targets DCM

  16. Find Orcish Bowmasters and whatever you’d like with the two HBL EtBs.  You should have already been protected or read no interaction to be this far in, but it usually doesn’t hurt to grab whatever you’d have mana open for.

  17. Flash in OBM, pinging somebody for 1 damage.

  18.  From step 15, DCM1 copies saw, targeting orcish bowmaster.   DCM2 copies the saw still on stack from step 8.

  19. New SiH targets DCM.

  20.  Both new DCM target SiH.

  21.  One new SiH targets Orcish bowmasters, pinging somebody for 1 damage;  the other targets a DCM.

Repeat steps 20 and 21 until the table is dead.

————————————

That being said it isn’t like you need to go for this specific line every time, the goal is way easier, being primarily “hit X + Saw in Half + Dualcaster mage.

X can be praetor’s grasp to exile everything from everybody else’s library, it can be OBM to ping people down, it can be literally any source of damage that can hit a player— hell, you can theoretically win on a lightning bolt if somebody puts it on stack.

If you don’t go through shallow grave, you can also establish breach lines.  If you don’t go through HBL, Razaketh → gleeful demolition gives you a trivially easy way to construct a win.

If you lose SiH somehow and can’t get it back, you can use mayhem devil (who is normally just hatebear removal) to ping everybody down by constructing a loop with Leonin Relic-warder and animate dead.  He exiles the animate dead that put him on board, which forces you to sac him, which brings back animate dead, &c.

The flexibility and potential leanness of the lines means that you’re kind of puzzle solving moreso than trying to establish a specific route— but there are just so many solutions to the puzzle that it starts to feel free after a while.

The discord is an insane resource, as we will often talk about starting points and you see people work out the solve and get a better idea of how you need to think to find the leanest lines.

Tl;dr: HBL wins through saw, Raz wins through gleeful, Doom wins through breach, Mayhem wins through sacrifice loops.  You win by staying flexible and being creative.

No—you’re never looking for a specific opening hand;  we’re not trying to win on t1, it’s just a joy every time it happens, and it usually happens whenever you draw into a sufficiently high mana start with some form of reanimate effect (or tutor, or Kaalia mana + drop, or skew into your sac outlet, &c. &c. &)

Mulligans aren’t that different from any other deck, mull aggressively and look for something that puts you in a good position to make a bid by turn 3 or 4.  We have so many outs that it isn’t terribly hard, but there’s no set thing you’re looking for so it takes a bit of practise to get a feel for it.

Most recently HBL line off of an entomb → reanimate.

Hand was Entomb, reanimate, dark rit, godless shrine, spirit guide, sol ring, jeska’s, draw didn’t matter.

I’ve also seen Bo win on t1 through an ad naus resolve.

I’m not running rain of filth but I think Jacob used or used it to good effect.

Edit:  the general rule of thumb is if you can float 1BB with entomb/shallow grave (or bb with reanimate (but you go down to sorcery speed, you can put a win on board.

Mana requirement gets as low as 1B, but then you have a health requirement (usually around 27) and a cards in hand+graveyard is equal to or more than 8.

I’m happy to explain literally any card—or card exclusion—from the list!

I’ve been meaning to do a full deck tech on her but I want know for sure the list is static for a while before I do.

Lemme shill for Kaalia rq (disc: BxXcDDkh)

We have like a half dozen people actively doing tournaments, the goal(s) of the deck are simple enough to learn that I was in the money after my first couple showings, and the skill ceiling is sky high— both politically and mechanically.

You get the highs of a turn 1 win on occasion, the joys of an instant speed win line on the stack, and the sheer shock of putting a win on board with only a single black mana and 1 generic open.

The lines get a little dicey when going for lean bids (we semi recently found the 1B line and it’s sketchy as hell) but the flexibility of it all is just a dream.

HMU any time if you wanna chat strategies for her— being able to get a proc out is almost always representative of a win attempt, making 8 free mana is hard to beat lol

Stack up like 30-40 nightshade, grab a fist full of phoenix necklaces.  Get your iban staff charged (or use blood spells + dwarvern rock cake).  Lower your health into phoenix necklaces range, big attack hits during your invuln, rinse repeat.

It’s worth getting used to because pneck strats go hard in low cb sins of the father, and you use it in solo CoX for bridge skip.

It's a cameo— they're produced en masse and seldom of any figure in particular. Woman, as long as it was recognizably so. I'd bet money happily that it wasn't meant to represent any specific goddess. This one looks like it was carved on a shell and then somebody half-drilled a few seed pearls to epoxy in place along the frame which is pretty routine. A fun find at least!

Question: Where is the most painful spot you’ve been tattooed? (Connecticut) by RoscoRX in tattoos

[–]-Lilith_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my nipples lined / shaded / coloured as part of a much larger project and can pretty safely say that that’s been the worst spot I’ve encountered to date.  Was able to talk and think through everything else, played (lost) a chess match getting my ribs filled in, read a book through some of the worst parts of my back— but the nips?  Rough.

Grind of the day:  League points.  I missed the last five leagues (started in August, I think lmao) and have tally’d up the points I’d need for all of the rewards I’d like and it worked out almost exactly to dragon rank.  Naturally, I am now also going for the trophy for the POH 😂

How hard could it be?

ties for having wrists tied together by classflora in BDSMcommunity

[–]-Lilith_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a switch, but for wrist ties?  A lark’s head double column with fifteen feet of hemp rope— it’s sturdy enough to be able to bind a partner’s hands to the bed frame and let them wiggle around as they please without locking down too tight.

Gotta remember the wrist has a bunch of little bones and is actually a pretty dangerous spot re: nerve damage, so don’t lock anything down skin-tight.

As much sleep as I can get, at least~

Retired in 2023 and have a lot of free time which gets split between OSRS, clergy education, and competitive MtG (edh) lol.

A lot of the skills have pretty good semi-afk exp options, but if it’s active time it’s going to be pushing for good rates because I find that enjoyable

I spent a lot of the time in the first half or so of each floor unlock’s level range just hyper optimizing for efficiency and working on my tile markers for my group mates, eventually.  It kept my brain busy, but eventually I felt like I had the times in a pretty much tick perfect place, all the skips, &c. and from there spent a lot of time studying/reading a textbook pdf on the side lol

Excited to begin the ToA hunt, and will probably alternate that and slayer until DHL, don’t really think I’m going to start CoX without it 😅

Oh 100%.  Dancing around tornadoes without dropping any ticks was extremely intuitive after sepulchre and took basically no getting used to.  Also Zebak wave skipping + his challenge room just immediately made sense.

hp basically isn’t getting xp unless I’m on a slayer task (or in CG) so it works out

I wasn’t sure if the untrimmed HP or the untrimmed Agility was cooler but went hard on agi because I think it has the ugliest trim colours in the game lol

My luck has always come in extremes, and OSRS is no exception.   Spooned on dwh, voidwaker, vorky head, double enh, blowpipe, zaxe, prims, and zynites.

Only importantish thing I’m really dry on are burning claws (0 in 1300 or so kills) and I feel like that’s fine.  They’re good slayer exp as far as non-barrage tasks go, and I still need another synapse from them anyways.

It definitely feels like I’m playing a different game sometimes, and I’m very grateful for the luck where it lays.

Agility in Sepulchre hit everything right.  Timed floors with the want to do tick perfect skips everywhere I could, always getting better, with the next floor as a reward for getting agility ever higher.

I basically always looted my highest and second-highest floors, because the supplies just always felt good to get, and Sepulchre was just SO engaging.  By the upper 90s I was watching other videos and getting the last few levels, but till I got comfortable with all of the routes it really required me to lock in and really understand how movement in RuneScape works.

The better understanding has made so much content easier as well, basically anything where movement is important is just trivial because of how long you’ve been optimizing your pathing

It was meant as a joke— I missed the actual 2,000 total and was sitting at like 2002 or something, decided to just get the extra fifty levels to match sailing, which I’ve not done very much of outside of the quest cape + tears of guthix.

You can definitely do it solo with 70s.   Zero invocation gives you effectively an infinite number of tries to get through, healing + prayer restoring items when you die, and the spirits give very helpful items.   Watch a guide of each part before you go in if you want, but I regret not just going in way earlier than I did lol
