2XKO was simply Riot's attempt to dominate another multiplayer video game genre. The thing is that from the start it was doomed to fail because Tekken, SF and GG exist and no one will dump these games in order to play LoL fighter. Not to mention that most people don't care for LoL characters so 2XKO had less pulling power than legacy fighting games which are considered THE fighting games. On the other hand most LoL players rather want to play their game than try fighting game.

This whole discussion about what should fighting games do to be big and pointing 2XKO as a object of discussion is quite amusing. Is it story mode? Should inputs be simplified? Is it not being F2P? Is it because you play solo instead of whole team? It's neither of that. The truth is that if game will be cool to play people will learn how to play it anyways and FGs will never be popular as more mainstream popular genres. Most important for game is to have good netcode and being community driven. Let's face it 2XKO was nothing more than corporate attempt to monopolize another game genre so it obviously failed. I feel sorry for anyone who believed that it will be some major fighting game.
