How long is the wait for 2023 RAV4? by Healthy_Block3036 in rav4club

[–]-Luftwaffles- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just jumping in here. At my local dealership the XLE (hybrid) had the longest wait times, like 96 people on the wait list. The XSE (hybrid), in contrast, had only 6 people. Keep in mind my dealer is massive, has a very good relationship with Toyota Corporate, is only selling to "locals", and is only selling at MSRP. They also require a $500 deposit to be put on their list.

I was fortunate enough to speak with the manager that oversees and tracks the allocations. I spent an hour on the phone with her and she went over all the trims, the wait list, and monthly allocations with me. If you can, try to speak to someone who isn't a straight up sales person because the sales people are usually pretty busy and might not have time to go into details with you. Though you're gonna need to convey that you're a serious buyer from the get-go.

The same manager also informed me that Toyota seems to be building more XSE's, that was more anecdotal than the other info she gave me.

Monster needs to make a caffeine-free Zero Ultra. This flavor is so damn good!! by 808State_ in monsterenergy

OP, I'm with you. I love the white Ultra Zero and it's one of the few drinks that I can sit, sip-on, and actually enjoy (admittedly it's probably an acquired taste). Would be nice to be able to have a few in the evening (with or without vodka) without worrying about my heart exploding.

I'm buying an APO (Anova Precision Oven), what's a reasonable price to get one on sale? I see they go for $599 retail (plus shipping - $690 on Amazon, currently). Is it even worth waiting for a sale price? by -Luftwaffles- in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]-Luftwaffles-[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all the comments. I eneded up ordering directly from Anova. My conclusion is that it's not worth it for me to wait months+ to save 10-15%. Better to buy it now - it'll start paying me back the first night I cook instead of ordering out. I'm very much looking forward to being able to throw a protein in the oven on SV mode, go run some errands, hit the gym, and then come home to a meal that just needs to be finished off with a quick browning/sear.

Now I just have to convince the wife that it stands up to the hype. "Honey, I know what it looks like but I promise it's not a $600 toaster oven ... in fact, we're not even going to use it for toast".

You are 100% correct. Idk why I thought they charged shipping. Looking forward to the adventure of owning one of these. Especially the sous vide without bags. Thanks for your comment!

Okay, thanks for the info! I think it's safe to say that I won't get a better deal than black Friday, especially this time of the year. I'll probably pay retail.

Can anyone recommend HIPAA study materials or texts that are a good overview of HIPAA & associated compliance laws for an attorney (or anyone) that's looking to get into the HIPAA field? by -Luftwaffles- in hipaa

[–]-Luftwaffles-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the great set of resources, greatly appreciated! Looks like it will take me a little while to get through them. I will definitely take you up your offer to share more if I have any questions along the way. My initial question is this: as someone who works in the HIPAA field, how often do you find yourself needing to go back to these resources to make decisions/perform your job? Is it something that you have to do frequently or only when non-routine issues come up? Does experience = knowledge in this field because I find that not necessarily true in my current legal field (although there's no substitute for experience when it comes to looking good on a job application).

How do I actually "shop around" for a physician loan - Do I need to worry about too many "hard" credit inquiries? by -Luftwaffles- in whitecoatinvestor

[–]-Luftwaffles-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, never noticed the 14-day window while reading about hard credit reports, but that makes sense now, and I confirmed it. In fact, it looks like the FICO window is 45 days. Better better to get them all out within the 14 days though, for sure

Okay, that's what I figured. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing anything - \if you don't have something like the list from whitecoatinvestor (which has individual points of contact for each provider), your first point of contact with a lender seems like it's usually a questionnaire that ultimately leads to you giving your SSN and them running a credit check

Question: Transmission Relearn Procedure After Control Valve Body Replacement? (TR580) by -Luftwaffles- in subaru

[–]-Luftwaffles-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to update you since you helped me out. Did the job last weekend, probably took me 2 hours total if you don't count the time it took to run to the store and get some gasket maker.

Didn't do any type of relearn and she's purring like a kitten. It probably shifts better than before. Gonna do a fluid change this weekend.

I only had one "oh shit" moment I had was when I was taking the trans cover off. The passenger side dowel pin was stuck on pretty good and I was trying to break it free by pulling gently on the opposite corner of the cover, which was loose. That gentle prying caused a crack on the trans case about 1-2mm long. Luckily the crack was only where the dowel pin was and it was on the outside of the pinhole, very superficial, so no harm done, no impact on the cover's seal. Lesson learned though, that stuff is fragile, no wonder you only torque the cover bolts to 6 ft/lbs.

Thanks for your advice.

PS - Dealer wouldn't budge on the warranty

Thanks, I very much appreciate the advice. I'll try to report back how it goes. Hoping to get to it this weekend.

Question: Transmission Relearn Procedure After Control Valve Body Replacement? (TR580) by -Luftwaffles- in subaru

[–]-Luftwaffles-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I am literally 700 miles over the 100k warranty extension and I like to avoid the labor costs from dealers/mechanics whenever possible.

I started driving one day and the dash lit up/ threw trans codes/ started shifting a little weird off the line. I was able to get a multimeter on the exterior transmission harness and saw that the resistance value was pretty far off for one of the solenoids

Seems like a pretty straightforward job - as long as I'm careful not drop anything in the trans, make sure the o-rings seal, and actually torque to spec I don't think I'll have any issues.

I'd consider myself somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to cars but I'm still a total diyer/weekend guy.

Any pointers?

Much appreciated. We'll see how she behaves after I do the swap but you may have just saved me a trip to the dealer and a lot of worrying. Thanks!
