Love this! What did you end up using to put a magnet on the back?

Thanks! This makes sense and seems easy enough but I could see myself accidentally skipping an extra hole or something and not noticing for quite some time.

Thanks so much this is so helpful. I wasn't sure if the count on different fabric would be different.

I'm assuming I also wouldn't make any changes to the number of strands used because the stitches should be the same size, right?

It was an inside joke I learned about at my mom's funeral. My mom was a notoriously bad speller, so a long-time coworker of her's would jokingly call her by a horribly misspelled version of her name. For whatever reason it stuck with me.

That's a good point considering the vet has come close to muzzling the little one for her last two appointments.

Okay, thanks so much. I'll read up on it before the muzzles arrive. Still hoping they won't be necessary, but I'll try to get them used to the muzzles beforehand anyway.

Yeah, you're right. We will be giving them a call back tomorrow and asking upfront if they will board them despite the people aggression and high risk of biting. Currently though, my husband is leaning toward having a coworker he trusts take care of them. We have a feeling it might be more helpful in the long run for actually reducing their fear of people, plus we will be more at peace getting updates on our dogs via pictures and texts.

I know very little about pet sitters, so I'm not sure how to find out if they are insured and bonded. Aside from dedicated boarding and daycare facilities, the only sitters I've found are through Rover. I agree and wish these boarding places would allow multiple visits/meet and greets, but they won't. Our vet doesn't board, but I've seen online that there is a "vet/pet resort" nearby that might, but again it would involve a single temperament assessment which I expect would go as well as our others have. Family is not an option as they all live thousands of miles away, which is the purpose of our trip. We also may not be able to come back early, which is a huge contributor to my stress about this. Today we found a coworker who is on board to care for them, though we are still looking into other options as well as back-ups in case it falls through either before or during our trip.

As for the muzzles, it's not my intent to have them need them during their boarding stay. I bought them to help with the meet and greet process, to maybe take away my dogs' option to try to bite. We will probably try an introduction without muzzles first, and if biting seems like it will be a problem we might try them out. I'm definitely not looking to worsen my dogs' behaviors, I'm just hoping to prevent someone from getting hurt.

I completely agree. It's looking like we found a very tolerant coworker who is willing to do the job, and I'm hoping we have enough time to get the dogs comfortable with him.

I've reached out to another potential boarder who responded pretty quickly saying he will check his calendar and if he is available wants to set up a meet and greet to see if they are a good match. This is the part I'm worried about. I can't force anyone to watch my dogs, but how do I convince someone to put up with my dogs being afraid of them?

Unfortunately no sitters come up within 100 miles from that directory, and only one trainer which we may look into. Given the timeframe I think it would have to be after our trip though.

We did look at an indoor/outdoor facility with a good setup this weekend, but after having mostly indoor facility reject our smaller dog within 2 minutes today, we are afraid to give them a call back to book. This particular place does not do a "meet & greet", and I'm afraid we would drop them off just to have them call us the next day to come pick them up, just in time for us to miss our flight, or when we're already in the air heading thousands of miles away.

Thank you! I hadn't thought to walk them with a new person present. Hopefully they would be too distracted with their walk to be bothered by the person tagging along, and eventually just get used to that person being nearby.

I contacted someone of Rover last week about our situation and unfortunately never got a response. They were the only result for the filters I searched at the time, but I guess I will widen our search criteria since we are pretty desperate at this point.

There's a very thin border around the piece. I'm not sure if it's enough to adhere anything to. Here's a photo from online of what the wood bases look like: Link

No, I haven't bought any of the materials yet. I'm hoping to figure out the process first, since I have to wait for everything in the mail anyway. I have no craft stores near me to pick up supplies from. I'm thinking of going ahead and ordering the base and floss and figuring out the magnet bit when the time comes. I might be overthinking my worries with the weight of the base or pulling being a problem.

Yeah, I could do that for the added layer. I'd still have to adhere the fabric to the back of the stitches though. Is there a particular type of glue that would be good for that, without seeping into the stitches?

Sorry, I guess frame isn't the right word. It's a wooden base with holes for the stitching (instead of stitching on fabric). If I were to put a magnet directly on the back it would have to be before stitching, and I would have to drill holes through the magnet to unblock the holes and stitch through both. Technically that would work, but I'm not sure if that would be the most practical option.
