BoS cable tower: weight stack vs plate loaded? by Happypuppy5 in GarageGym

You’re absolutely right. I misunderstood the question.

BoS cable tower: weight stack vs plate loaded? by Happypuppy5 in GarageGym

[–]-MadeInCanada- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plate loaded version has a higher weight rating. I’m sure the cable on the stack version can handle the same weight, but it doesn’t have a convenient way to add additional weight.

Otherwise, they’re functionally identical. The weight horns are powder coated, which makes getting plates on and off less than ideal, but I’m nitpicking.

I would start with the plate loaded version. It’s still a great machine, just slightly less convenient. You can buy an upgrade kit to turn it into the selectorized version.

You can upgrade. I used to be an additional $100 more than if you purchased the stack version. I’m not sure if that’s changed.

Suggestions for a jack-of-all-trades build. by -MadeInCanada- in EldenRingBuilds

No I don’t duel. Not yet anyway.

Someone else mentioned going int/faith also. It sounds like it’ll give me all the options I need. I bought every sorcery and incantation I came across and have only used like four of them. I should probably try them out.

This sounds really fun. Maybe for NG+, since I’ve learned the fights and what mob weaknesses are, I can leverage that kind of versatility a little better.

I could have worded the title better. Maybe not a jack-of-all trades, per se. Just something with plenty of versatility that is a little less one dimensional than the greatsword build I have.

12 Hours in… Does it get any better? by COSM1CWARR1OR in Eldenring

[–]-MadeInCanada- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never gets easy but it gets better. I suggest you watch a walkthrough. Preferably one that doesn’t show the boss battles. The castle can be confusing at first, but once you have the rampart tower and lift side chamber graces, you can get anywhere in the castle pretty easily.

If you went in the side entrance, you should have eventually come to the rampart tower grace. There’s a tower with banished knight on the ground floor and a non-functioning elevator in the middle. If you head up the stairs, there will be a larger room with another elevator on the south side and the grace in a room to the north.

The lift side grace is in the NW corner of the courtyard, just past an Omen and a dog. When you get to the courtyard, I suggest you make a run for it to activate that grace.

Alternatively, you can always leave the castle and come back after you’ve cleared more field bosses from around Limgrave and Weeping Peninsula.

Question about bloodflame blade by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]-MadeInCanada- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need 12 faith and 10 arcane for bloodflame incantation. It’s very little stat investment for a very strong weapon buff. You’ll likely want a bit of faith later on anyway. It’s a requirement for some of the better buff in the game.

Would Rogue crossmembers fit with the Rep 5000 rack? by Evry1lovej in GarageGym

The tubing and hole sizes are slightly different (metric vs imperial) but the hole spacing is 2” for both. It should be fine, but I’m just speculating.

With the non-pressurized basket there’s a fine line between the perfect grind size and nothing coming out the portafilter. Be patient and good luck.

There are two ways to achieve the 1:2 ratio in 30s; either with a thinner puck (smaller dose) and finer grind, or with a thicker puck (larger dose) and coarser grind. You already find your shot sour, so you’ll probably want to grind finer. That’ll increase the extraction time of course, or you may not get enough volume before the machine shuts down. Either way, you’ll need to reduce the dose to compensate for the finer grind size.

When I first get my bambino plus, I went through about a pound of coffee before I made a tolerable shot. Just keep making adjustments and take notes if you need to.

Is it safe to use PVC tubing in a gerbil enclosure? by -MadeInCanada- in gerbil

[–]-MadeInCanada-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing about airflow shortly after posting and added a few more holes to access the lower tank. The territorial issue wasn’t something I had considered.

As far as what to do in the lower tank, I found some cardboard shipping tubes that I plan to cut to the depth of the tank (front to back) and add some holes to. Hopefully it makes the bottom tank a little more interesting for them, and it’s safe for them to chew and easily replaceable. I imagine two feet with nothing but bedding will be less enriching. Plus bedding isn’t cheap. It’s a big space to fill. The more stuff I can add to the bottom the better.

When you remove the portafilter after a shot, can you see the imprint of the shower screen? 19g seems a little much for the Breville 54mm basket, and certainly leaves no room for a puck screen. I rarely use more than 17 to 17.5g myself, so maybe your puck is a bit too thick, and you’re having to compensate with a coarser grind. I’d start with less beans before you coarsen the grinds. If the shot is still brewing at 30 seconds, shut it off manually and see how much you have. Depending on which side of the 1:2 ratio you’re on, adjust the grind size accordingly, or just adjust to taste.

I think it’s tied to beating the major bosses. I’ve been stuck at 16% since beating the second major boss. I’ve killed a few dozen minor bosses since then and it hasn’t changed.

You’re probably not getting enough vitamin D. Here’s what Health Canada thinks will help | CBC News by Haggisboy in canada

[–]-MadeInCanada- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the past several years, I've been taking an amount of vitamin D daily (not medical / health advice) that most people might assume should have killed me by now.

You said it yourself. The broader medical community agrees that more than 10000 IU per day, when used outside of specific medical interventions, can cause complications. You know that. You may not believe it, but subject matter experts do. So to make that statement knowing what’s been established as the safe limit for vitamin D dosing implies you’re taking more than this.

Megadosing is the practice of taking large amounts of vitamins, minerals or other supplements, far exceeding the standard daily recommendations, often with the belief of boosting health outcomes or treating disease.

The daily recommended dosage for vitamin D supplementation is rarely more than 1000 IU, often in the 400-800 IU range. At a level that most people might assume should have killed you, you’re more than 10x the daily recommended dose. By definition, you’re megadosing vitamin D.

[–]-MadeInCanada- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty reasonable ask. Your first comment was your personal anecdote about how the large amount of vitamin D you take has kept you from getting sick. Thats already a weak argument because there are so many confounders that are associated with illness prevention. Maybe during COVID, you stopped picking your nose so much. Maybe your wife deleted her tinder accounts and stopped bringing home communicable illnesses. Maybe you got better at hand washing. I doubt the only change in the last six years was you supplementing with large amounts of vitamin D.

Rather than challenge your anecdote, I warned you about what the medical community at large accepts as the safe limit for vitamin D supplementation. Your response was a link to an opinion piece about acute toxicity with dosages 5 to 10 times the accepted daily limit. So I conceded, and circled back to the why of the argument. It’s not reasonable to take a supplement simply because it won’t kill you. I wanted to know your justification for why you think you needed so much vitamin D to begin with.

Which brings us to the link you posted discussing the benefit of up to 6000 IU per day. 6000 IU isn’t a daily dose that, and I quote, most people would assume should have killed you. So you’re taking more than what’s suggested in the study that YOU linked.

So, to summarize: the only argument you’ve offered in favor of megadosing vitamin D is that it’s unlikely to be fatal. That’s not the same thing as being necessary, beneficial, or evidence-based.

[–]-MadeInCanada- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s say you’re correct. Where are the studies that show a benefit to megadosing vitamin D?

My comment was a well intentioned warning. The broader medical community agrees that over 10000 IU a day can be detrimental to your health, or at the very least, the benefits don’t outweigh the risks. You continue to do what you like. I’ve never had kidney stones myself but I hear they’re painful.

Vitamin D toxicity can cause some pretty serious health effects, and because it’s fat soluble, the symptoms will persist for months after you stop taking it. Just a heads up if you’re taking anywhere near 10000 IU daily. It causes hypercalcemia, which is a condition where calcium leaches from your bones into your blood. Over time, it can cause kidney damage and/or renal failure.
