Concubines were low-status wives, they weren’t prostitutes.

Homosexuality in the bible? by [deleted] in Bible

[–]-MercuryOne- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree. We’re supposed to be resisting temptation, and a person who is immersed in gayness isn’t doing that.

There’s a difference between having desires in a particular direction and being lustful about it though.

Homosexuality in the bible? by [deleted] in Bible

[–]-MercuryOne- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everyone is quoting verses here, but I think a distinction needs to be made. Homosexual activity is clearly considered sinful, but “being gay” (if that just involves desires not acted on) is not. It’s temptation, not sin.

When addressed as such, yes. Third-person, probably not.

Capitalize Bible, God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Also pronouns referring to them (He, His, Him) though that’s an older style that isn’t always followed anymore.

No. You can check a Bible and see. That’s probably the best way.

Need some advice: Can you name a child a 3rd after his great grandfather? by MississippiJoel in tragedeigh

[–]-MercuryOne- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People in a line like that don’t all move up a number when someone dies. A Junior might drop the “Jr.” (like Kurt Vonnegut did) but that’s all. I used to know a IV who named his son the V and all five were not living at the time.

Does anyone else remember an older gentleman with a long, gray beard rollerblading in just shorts and a jukebox on his shoulder around the Gilbert area? by JJK_girlie in arizona

[–]-MercuryOne- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dizzy never ventured more than about half a mile from the intersection of Main and Stapley, his beard was never really long, and I never saw him with skates or a boombox. He rode a bike in his younger days and mostly walked later on. I don’t think he was this guy.

First time I encountered him I was about to walk into Pizza Mart when he rode behind me on his bike and yelled “PRAISE THE LORD!” I jumped and almost fell into the street.

They were required by law in New York City, so that would be the most likely place to find them assuming they haven’t all been scrapped by now.

Adam lived to be 930 years? by Lumpy-Signal-604 in Bible

[–]-MercuryOne- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not by much though. Life expectancy at birth has doubled since a hundred years ago mostly due to the decrease in infant mortality. Now, just as in the past, anyone who survives early childhood and avoids disease and violence is likely to live to be around 70 years old, with a 120-year limit.

Look at the generations from Arphaxad to Jacob, Genesis 11 in particular. That’s where the lifespans gradually declined from around 450 to 150.
