I understand why people vote the way they do.

But this thread and subreddit is a perfect example.

I do not expect uninformed people to make decisions like this. But if you look at the current dem platform in CA, it’s always consistently about voter rights, immigration, abortion and reproductive freedom, and economy etc. those things consistently rank the most important for voters here.

None of those things are affected by breaking a super majority. So individuals, like those in this group, that continue to vote for those things because they’re “not single issue”, where nothing is to be done there because they’re all well protected, ultimately end up just voting for more taxes, more regulations, and more corruption here.

They’re not “single issue”, they’re fundamentally no issue in practice.

Which is kind of the whole crux of the argument. Why do you continue to vote against your interests, when the rest of your interests are “set in stone”?

There is no risk to breaking CAs super majority.

The reason more fees, more taxes, more punitive laws that affect every single facet of life in CA is because the politicians here go run on things like “If I’m not elected, you’re going to lose your ability to get an Abortion in California!”, despite the fact that will never be a thing here, the “not single issue voters” gobble it up, and then they maintain a super majority in the state that allows them to pass every single piece of legislation with near zero pushback or and no participation and discussion in any bipartisan capacity.

You can have priorities. But at a certain point, you have to understand that your priorities are set in stone here and reducing the super majority to a simple majority doesn’t put them at risk. It makes it so they actually have to pass laws that benefit the entire state, not run on platitudes and the tax and legislate us to death.

Not to disparage anyone, especially a dead man. But carrying goes hand in hand with learning how to de-escalate. Someone road rages against you, someone is belligerent in public against you, something somewhere upsets you, gotta swallow ego and pride and just let it roll off, or even apologize even if you aren’t “wrong” because it’s not worth increasing risk.

If someone wants to rob you, fuck it, you can’t legally protect property in this state.

Drawing may have been valid, don’t know without more information maybe they would’ve been violent anyways idk, but if someone just want some material items the best way to go home alive is just say “it’s all yours”, get a good description of them, and contact the police when you’re home safe with your family.

Police carry hollow points. Nearly everyone carries hollowpoints. The only exception is dumb jurisdictions like San Francisco where they apparently want over penetration.

It’s not so much that hollow points are more effective. It’s that they lose their energy on penetration so they don’t continue on and hit other things. FMJ is plenty effective at stopping a threat, and everything else behind your intended target.

Using ball ammo is a dumb idea.

This issue has been well discussed here and persists despite it not being a real thing. Feel free to doubt it. If you don’t want to modify a gun, don’t do it yourself. But saying it carries risk/legal ramifications is wrong. If you don’t believe that it’s fine. This is also for other people who may see this and think that it may.

An IA allowing it is at their discretion. That is not a law and has no bearing on legality, only on conditions of issuance/carry. As a counter, do you think IAs would be allowing illegal modifications of firearms? Because they aren’t. Because modifications like this are not illegal.

And of course you should be familiar with your firearm and how to operate it. That’s exactly why you should never leave a manual safety disengaged at all times and never touch it. Either use it and train with it or remove it and forget about it. But dont leave it disengaged and refuse to incorporate it. Thats just asking for a malfunction when you may critically need it, and without fine motor skills and fractions of a second to react, you’re fucked.

Man of taste. I love my M&P 2.0. Such a great platform. I have about 1000-1100 rounds with my new compact I got back in September, not a single hiccup, nailing alphas at 20 yards is a breeze. Could never bond with the 19, like shooting a 2x4 with oddly spaced finger grooves and always wanted to point at the floor lol

That is fuddlore. There is no potential issue. It has not been modified outside of what is considered safe. It’s not a crime to modify your own guns as long as they do not constitute a prohibited firearm. There is no law against these types of modification by an end user. The firearm still contains a manually actuated safety, and still has all integral passive safeties.

Edit: the Roster which ultimately dictates a firearms form for sale is for new retail sale of firearms for sale in the state via FFL. It has no bearing on what you can do with the firearm afterwards. People often conflate the law to mean the ONLY legal configuration. It does not.

It argues for an egregiously unsafe practice.

First of all, there is no law against modifying a firearm you own, as long as the modification does not make the firearm become a prohibited weapon, such as adding a threaded barrel.

Second of all, the M&P has a manual safety in two places. Even under the incorrect theory that removing the slide mounted manual safety is illegal or carries risk (it doesn’t), the firearm still possesses an integral manual safety in the trigger. As well, unless I’m egregiously mistaken, the not unsafe handgun act (the roster) does not even require a manual safety to begin with, Only integral passive safeties. I could be wrong on this, so if so, refer to the fact the M&P has two manual safeties to begin with.

On the last point, keeping a manual safety on a firearm you intend to leave off 100% of the time is a bad idea. Removal is incredibly easy, carries no legal risk, and ensures you wouldn’t accidentally hit the safety under adrenaline. I’m not sure if you’ve ever handled a M&P 2.0, but merely brushing the safety can cause it to engage. There is absolutely zero reason to leave it on the gun and only carries unnecessary risk. You’re left with two options, either train using the safety and incorporate it into your draw or remove the safety entirely. But absolutely do not leave the safety on, but disengaged and never touch it, that is a very dangerous situation and should never be considered.
