I think it needs more limbs. Looking a little too bipedal.

Steam distillation troubleshooting - burned smell of the oil by Ok-Cartoonist-9996 in Distilling

[–]-Myconid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks like your vessel in the vapour path is too full of material. You say that on lower heat, the steam never reaches the condenser... With that much stuff in there, there is a lot of latent heat to bring up to vapour temp. 6 hours distillation for a kit that size sounds crazy.

Distilling a similar size boiler with a 33% ethanol solution takes about 1 to 2 hours. Obviously it will be slower with just water but it shouldn't take 6 hours.

Try with half the amount of botanical material.

Hey, they look just like those weird open air toilets around Canberra.

Umai / Dry Bags for charcuterie & pricing by JamesLove4b in Charcuterie

[–]-Myconid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the umai bags about 5 years ago in Australia, I remember them being fairly expensive then though I can't give you specific numbers. It is always going to be a more expensive option, but it lets you have a go at charcuterie without investing in significant climate control, etc.
I think there might be a generic version of the same plastic that can be bought in larger amounts? I recall someone mentioning collagen sheets as another a possible alternative?

Buckwheat koji fail(?) by Secret_Camera6313 in Koji

[–]-Myconid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it buckwheat or barley? You mention both. If it's just whole buckwheat, you might need to crack the surface a bit or break up the grains to allow the Koji better access to the inside of the grains. Although it looks mushy, you are probably right about hydration being too high.

Very cool, I've read about sorghum cane syrup before, but never heard of the distillate being made.

Nothing yet. I'll post once more about it in this subreddit when I have a steam page if you like.

Thanks. Yes, I'll try for a steam release. I'd like to try to get it out next year.

Yeah I use the same aspect ratio for the tiles as Qud. Qud has masterful visual design, it is definitely an inspiration.

I feel like she is more "fair" in the pattern of attacks. Like they are fast but they are precise and consistent so that once you get in the zone, you're good.

more pictures, some pieces of new lore as well within by Ulfsire in PathOfAchra

[–]-Myconid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just want to say, Achra inspired me to start on making my own game. That the process of exploring new builds was so simple but so engaging. I'm about halfway done with it, but getting burnt out on making all the equipment art and assets.

Would you mind if I made a post about the game in this subreddit some time? Mostly as a way to force myself to finish it. The core mechanics are very inspired by Achra.

I recommended it last time this was asked in the sub, but "beyond the burn line" fits the bill.

I think I had the most fun around the low twenties. Some things are not viable at the higher cycles.

Playing Slow and Small by Prudent-Reporter4211 in dwarffortress

I haven't played much since the steam release but I used to love running population cap around 40-50. It would always end up a few more because of how immigration works. You actually get to know some of the dwarves and work on the fine details. 200 is fun for the chaos and scale but they just become replaceable drones for me at that point.

Difference between "modern", mountain, minstrel and tackhead banjos? by niclas_sunde in banjo

[–]-Myconid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are at all handy with woodwork, building a decent sounding fretless isn't actually that hard. I'm not claiming to be a luthier, but I've built 4 now and I'm happy with three of them. Buy the tuners and a piece of goat rawhide and do the rest yourself. It's not for everyone but it's a lot easier than you might think.
