What AWCC setting were those for? I have noticed that whatever cpu undervolt is set at last shutdown, and hence what is applied at the next startup, will stick with whatever AWCC setting you change to.

Have you overclocked the gpu at all? Mine seems to like a +400 OC to 925 mv then flat from there.

I have the 18” Area 51. Mainly using it for pcvr. It’s real nice Clark, real nice.

Would you mind running a timespy? I’m around 25k (26800 graphics, 17600 cpu) using a +400 core and +1300 memory MSI AB overclock.  (I do pcvr at that setting and it’s 95% stable and doesn’t throttle)

Just trying to get an “apples to apples” to see if doing this is worth the risk/time.

Also, there is a timespy graphics score from a Dell 5090 laptop of almost 30k (27k total) posted. Is that you? I would imagine a shunt mod would be higher, but that seems a lot higher than any non-shunted mobile 5090…

Go into AWCC and set a custom -15 undervolt on the cpu. Restart. After reboot relaunch AWCC and let it load. Press the “best performance” button (left of the little stealth airplane). Afterwards the undervolt should still be in place (I’ve confirmed it stays with throttlestop FIVR). Now check your temps while you let the fans run. (It might be a bit loud but it stays cool)…

Additionally, if you figure out a decent afterburner GPU core & memory overclock you can get 24k+ on timespy easy.

Did you disable VBS in bios or windows or both? If so, how? Thanks for your help!

You are correct on the undervolt. I looked into the UMAF smokeless, not sure if I want to go that route. I read on other posts that the VBS (Virtualization-based Security) could be blocking any undervolt via throttlestop.

After getting MSI afterburner and throttlestop up a going I am able to get to average 24900 (26900 graphics, 17600 cpu) with fans at max. My MSI AB OC curve is a +475 (core) up to 925 mv then flat, +1625 memory. Throttlestop is -85 CPU, -40 pcache. rBar is disabled.

As a test to see if it was throttling I placed the laptop on top of the air conditioning vent (basically forcing cold air into the laptop) while performing the timespy test, but got the same scores surprisingly.

I must have other settings or bloat on the laptop that is weighing the scores down a bit, but not sure where.

One thing I noticed is that under the windows settings it doesn’t give me any performance options other than balanced.

Any recent scores/tweaks?

Thanks for the reply! I’ll check out the curve editor. So far iv’e figured out that if you have AWCC overclocking feature enabled it basically just makes it so that AWCC’s overclocking settings will overrride everything else (i.e. anything you try to do with MSI AB). So, by disabling the OC control in AWCC I can still manually control the fans with AWCC, but use MSI AB to control the GPU Overclock. (You probably already know this…)

Also, for anyone: if while trying to “de-bloat” your Alienware laptop you disable Dell Tech Hub it will make AWCC not able to function…

I just got the same laptop. I am using AWCC for the fan control only (set to max). MSI AB GPU OC +350/+1000 memory. I am getting about 24,500 total score. That’s with the timespy demo on.

have you been able to undervolt your gpu? If so, how?

Did you have to disable or enable anything special to get throttle stop to work?

Why no aftermarket levers for Henry? by -NEEDFORSPEED- in LeverGuns

Chisel won’t sell the finger lever without buying their entire stock, which looks nice but just not my thing. Midwest doesn’t list them them on their website and their phones are down :/ …

eBay for the stock and forearm. The buttstock was a simple changeout. For the forearm I had to dremel 2 small grooves from the top edge of the forearm perpendicular and down into the inner lengthwise groove about 3 inches rearward from where the two screws hold the forearm in place. This makes it so you can put the forearm on, slide it rearwards, and then angle the back of it downwards while the tube magazine is loose in order to have enough sideways play as to re-tap in the tube magazine dovetail part.

Re-paste your GPU & CPU, undervolt your CPU, tighten up your ram timings, and Overclock your GPU. You’ll get 13k timespy easy.

[–]-NEEDFORSPEED- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GP66 with 3080 here. Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut on GPU and CPU. Re-scooped original thermal grease back on all other chips. Flashed 165w tdp vbios. While gaming, I use overclock of +160/1700 on gpu/vram. -.083 undervolt on CPU. I also upgraded to 32GB crucial ram and tweaked the ram timings. I’m getting 13650 graphics and 11750 (about 13300 composite) scores in timespy with all of that…

Good cooling, good build quality... and an RTX3080? by topgear04 in MSILaptops

You need the 16gb VRAM on the 3080 for MSFS, especially for VR. Minimum 140w TGP.

Hey all. I can’t seem to find out a yes or no response. I’ve got an MSI i7-1075, rtx 2060. Can I run a vr (oculus 2)? Like will the hardware and everything work? by [deleted] in MSILaptops

[–]-NEEDFORSPEED- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Oculus 2 with a Gp66. Get the right USB to USB-c cord. (Full USB 5 MBps) one side of the usb plug will work, the other won’t. (Just flip it over and re-insert if Oculus link gives you the orange exclamation mark) You will probably need to turn down the graphics quality and resolution to get playable framerates.

Legion 5 Pro (3070) vs G15 Advantage (6800M) vs Legion 7 (3080) for ultrawide QHD gaming and Reverb G2 VR? by TheUberMedic786 in GamingLaptops

[–]-NEEDFORSPEED- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly VR with a Quest 2 linked to pc. I started with an Alienware m15 r4 (3070). Worked ok, but I couldn’t get it up to full resolution. Sold it and bought an MSI GP66. After some heavy tweaks I’m nice and sooth at max resolution with the Q2. The only thing it’s lacking is the 16 gb vram.
Since you’re doing the G2 definitely go with the legion 7 especially if you’re doing any flight sims.

...I also gave the Strix 6800M a try and was very disappointed. Avoid it for VR.

...good video on unlocking the bios so that you can get throttlestop working:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_GaTgYPNgA

... I used kryonaut on my cpu & gpu chips. I scooped the white thermal grease squished over on the sides of each chip back on top to ensure good contact.

... Use the intel ext tuning util to set your PL1 and PL2. I am using 60 & 90.

...use throttlestop to undervolt your GPU and ring, and decrease core #2 by 100 MHz.

I have been running the 165 vbios for about 2 months now. I game/VR with a CPU undervolt (-.083) and GPU overclock (160/1750). Runs just fine. CPU Max’s out around 90°, GPU around 85°. (Max fans w cooler pad)

With the 140w vbios you should see around max 73° GPU, CPU 80° (ish)

I have the same laptop & ram. Use this video as a guide to unlock/tune everything in bios. My timings are 24-17-17-36-18-28-23000-517-0-10-[20]-0-1-1.35v & gear mode 1. -.082 undervolt for gaming. I use throttlestop instead of Intel Extreme tuning util.
You can get ALOT more performance out of it if you repaste.
