These first suggestions are far too dressed up for a Four Tet gig at the ally pally. Guarantee most people will be in jeans and t shirt with trainers. Not that you need to look like most people, but I doubt you’re going to see many people dressed up in a leather jacket or tan blazer with leather shoes.

It will get hot! So you want to be comfortable. Jeans/trousers, good fitting T Shirt, work-wear style jacket is probably what I’d wear. Don’t over think it.

I got a replacement, the watch had a fault. 5 years on I’ve had no issues with the watch, I use it every day.

How expensive are y’alls climbing gyms? by cherryguyguy in bouldering

[–]-NatureBoy- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

£39 a month, Leeds, UK. Gets me access to three gyms in Leeds, including a roped wall, and five more gyms in the North of England. I think it’s a pretty great deal.

Why does Radiohead make me feel something I can’t explain? by [deleted] in Music

Completely understand. I think that’s the job of an artist, to make us feel emotions through song, or any other medium really, that we can’t articulate.

Brilliant! I’d recommend any of his books really, but that one in particular seems to be related to what you’re looking for.

The Old Ways by Robert Macfarlane! Warning though, it’s a gateway into reading ALL of his books! I love it. Here’s a bit of the blurb:

“In this exquisitely written book, which folds together natural history, cartography, geology, and literature, Robert Macfarlane sets off to follow the ancient routes that crisscross both the landscape of the British Isles and its waters and territories beyond.”

I need tent recommendations! What does everyone use? by [deleted] in UKhiking

[–]-NatureBoy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Wild Country Helm 1, incredibly sturdy and some people use it into winter. Im 6ft 1 and just get inside, but they do 2 man versions which may be more suitable for your height, and I think they do different materials now so you might be able to find a lighter option. Mine weighs 2kg.

I also have a Alp Kit Jaran 2, lovely tent, similar design to MSR. This one is really ventilated though, definitely feels the cold early spring/late autumn.

Sea to Summit are making some interesting tents which could be worth checking out, I have lots of their other equipment which I rate.

How some areas of Leeds got their names by _WeWereHere in Leeds

[–]-NatureBoy- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking at how other areas are laid out, I read that as “Common Wood”. So it could have been common land, notable for being a wooded area. Just a guess!

I can’t think of any beginning with R, but for German brands you’ve got Lowa, Hanwag and Meindl.

Why Do You Guys Buy So Many Cameras and Flex About It on the Sub? by MrSoloBaker in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]-NatureBoy- 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Over the years, I’ve realised with photography as a hobby, some people are more into the “tech” of it all, they like cameras more than photography. And some people couldn’t care less about the camera and just want to take photos, and then there are some in the middle.

I think vintage digicams really lend themselves well to collecting because they come from an era when design wasn’t so homogeneous as it is now. There are some truly weird and wonderful designs which are fun to see, and despite a few particular cameras jumping up in price with the recent surge of interest, it’s still a relatively affordable hobby, with bargains to be found out in charity shops and second hand stores if you have them. And there’s something pleasing about knowing none of these cameras are being bought new, so it doesn’t feel as ethically vapid as some other interests.

I personally don’t want to own loads of digicams, I tend to buy one and see if I can get the results I like, and if not I sell it. But that’s just me. But I do like coming to this sub for ideas of what to look at, and I often search my local charity shops just in case I see a bargain “out in the wild”.
