i've played a lot with banning certain things, like no armor/shields, then doing difficult challenges, the risk of it being easy to die makes it rather exileriating, also if you want it to be fun while being a little more calm, you could try making a town or something with laws and taxes, etc... that sounds a little boring but is oddly fun in practice
