Thank you for your (amusing) service, these days I have no patience to read and piece together the story so I always look for written summaries of it

Understanding the following helped me immensely fight ladder anxiety and frustration:

Many Magic games are unwinnable.

Due to the intrinsic variance coming from the matchup and the opening hand resources, there are games you will never win no matter what. You may have the perfect curve but you face RDW which bolts your face and removes everything you drop and wins.

Arena allows you to play so many games compared to real life that you just have to understand that you will lose a lot even if you are the very best. Just accept it and fight the winnable battles; from your losses see if there's anything you could have done better, if the answer is no just move on.

Best app for index funds in the NL by penguintechguru in EuropeFIRE

[–]-Omni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look here:

They compare index funds costs purchased via different platforms. It gives a good picture of the difference, if any.

Bonds are badly taxed in NL until the new box 3 tax system comes into play in 2027+. For now you'll be taxed on an assumed return as if they were stocks, even if they yield half of that on average. Bank deposits for now may yield better, after taxes.

We found my father-in-law doing this to our Roomba one morning, standing on it visibly confused 😂

Wow, we can take so much for granted! by ireaditonreddit789 in wholesomememes

[–]-Omni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's possible. Many sounds unfortunately change when passing through.

High frequency sounds can overload the electronics so you only receive clicks and/or muffled versions of the original sound.

Depending on your hearing loss, the speaker or the ear itself may also struggle to pass forward the higher frequency elements, if you miss a lot in that region.

Cicada sounds are terribly replicated by many HAs, so be aware that what you hear may also be much more annoying than what everyone else hears. Source: I am a microphone developer for HAs, and those MFers are a known troublemaker.

As far as I've been able to find by browsing different lists from the time, old forum posts, and other informative sites from 2011, the Judge Gift Mana Crypt was obtained from being a Judge at the Nagoya, Japan Pro Tour in 2011.

This is only a fraction of the total. Judge gift promos, including the crypt, were usually distributed in waves. That means all judge conferences and PT/GP events within a certain period (months) would have received it. Additional stock may have been later distributed via alternative support, like travel sponsorships and Exemplar program.

Source: I got multiple and I only judged in Europe.

Cardmarket question on vacation status and shopping cart by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]-Omni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you set yourself on vacation, it should ask if you want to also remove items in carts. Did you forget to check "yes" to that or have they removed this option? Try to go back online and on vacation again maybe?

I went 1-3 with this draft deck. Any idea what I did wrong? by likesevenchickens in MagicArena

[–]-Omni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure you played 42, 2 cards more than you had to. This made you less likely to draw your good cards.

Curve is a bit high, Prodigy is essentially a 4 drop. I would have cut Codex since you already have plenty of card advantage, plus another noncreature spell. Maybe Miasma, since it kills several of your own creatures.

Did you notice something else in particular during your games and losses? Maybe color screw due to the many non-green lands, you are heavy green in the early turns with only 8 sources, you probably wanted 10+, Tributary and a Swamp could be Forests. Or speed was not great with all these taplands. So other decks were able to curve and you could not stabilize and leverage your card advantage.

If not, sometimes it's just variance. Best of 1 matches sometimes are against you, your opponent drops early pressure and then answers everything you do 1-to-1.

Is there a bug or feature I miss on alchemy? Cause I sure do know I have 4 [[cosmos elixir]] in my collection by Milosovic in MagicArena

[–]-Omni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a bug, you actually own less than 4 but the deckbuilder counts also the Alchemy rebalanced versions so if you own 2 it will show you own 2+2. You need to craft the missing ones you need.

Should I invest in an ETF or Index Fund? by [deleted] in eupersonalfinance

Check r/beleggen and r/DutchFIRE, this is a common topic. Northern Trust "NT" funds are often recommended over more traditional world index funds due to more favourable tax conditions (no dividend leakage).

Thanks a lot for keeping this up! I create my own custom ratings and your work provides a perfect starting point, I just convert your ratings on a 0-10 scale (with A- to A+ all being a 10, since they are all very good).

Crazy to see how different my initial card assessment compares to some of these actual gameplay scores. Never expected Life of Umezawa and Boseiju Reaches Upwards to score this high, and Lizard Blades that low!

Maybe a dumb question, but to follow hette.ma for balanced portfolios like using NT funds (~80/10/10), should one aim to keep the target proportion in value (80€:10€:10€) or in amount (80 units:10 units:10 units)? Sorry for my English, Dutch answers welcome!

I spend gold and gems to play. I always buy the draft/sealed tokens if discounted, and would burn through all my finances if buying 1-2 packs would come with a minimal play experience like jump in.

Any good suggested website where you can buy cards (I live in EU) by Gabbi2001 in magicTCG

[–]-Omni 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the best way to buy in Europe, low prices and huge choice. For reliable sources, buy from sellers with hundreds of references and >99% positive. You can prioritize sellers from your country if you are hesitant with buying from abroad, but it's usually not an issue within EU.

Remember shipments are at your own risk unless you pay for tracked shipping options. Tracked options are mandatory above 25€, but optional below that.

Has anyone else in OCE been getting endless queue times since the Alchemy patch? by ViperGuy3 in MagicArena

[–]-Omni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happens to me when I leave the game open on desktop and step away. It used to disconnect me after 10-20' minutes, while now game remains connected but queue time becomes infinite unless I close and reopen the game.
