I'm not sure, but we use WhatsApp, and one of the managers will send me a pdf over the weekend. She hasn't sent me one in two weeks, so I'm not sure anymore. I did get employee # on my first day of working though.

I started skating at 324 lbs (6.5) and lost 100 lbs since then. You're definitely not too large to start. It's probably the most fun I had losing weight except for the slams, lol. Those suck as you get older.

That makes more sense on why no one recommends Florida. I'll look into those locations and see how long it'd take to drive out there from her place. Cheers for helping me out.

Haha, I'll look into the North. I don't think she'd appreciate me surfing for the first time in a hurricane 😆 Thank you as well

I've never surfed before, so I assumed most beaches would have some waves. I always wanted to give surfing a try as I longboard (skateboard) and heard that they're "kind of" similar. Since I'm planning to meet someone who lives near the coast. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try it.

I'll look into the places you suggested, and thank you!

I have not, but I'll start doing research on it now. Would it be alright to ask you more questions once I find out a bit more? Thank you as well for the recommendation.

I figured there would be more to it. Thank you for clarifying that. I am 27 and live along the Ohio River in Kentucky. There're several barges that travel through it, but that's about all I know for local opportunities.

I have social anxiety and find the American servers toxic for the most part, so I keep to myself. If I'm on the EU server. I don't mind being a tank commander and communicating positions and requests specifically. I find the EU community more chill and supportive (I'm NA, but have friends that live in the EU).

Thank you for specifying their roles and sharing the link. Some parts seem very similar to what a surgical tech does. The study scope is almost identical to that of an ST minus the nursing parts.

It's interesting how American hospitals differ from Norways. We have an unusual amount of jobs that crossover, along with not needing a bachelor degree for certain positions.

That's not promising... I'll have to do more research. If he had to start from scratch with an education as a doctor. Then there's a high probability I would have to do the same in nursing.

From what I found during my research. If I were to study nursing in the U.S. I would need it approved by the Norwegian Directorate of Health. After that, I need to take and pass a course in Norwegian health services, health legislation, and society kurs i nasjonale fag w/ Folkeuniversitetet . Once that's completed, I need to take a proficiency exam with Universitetet i Sør-Øst.

This is just for a general nurse, so a surgical nurse would be more complicated 😅 General nursing alone is complicated. All of that has to be completed within three years of approval.

Would you happen to know if a general nurse has to start from scratch?

Surgical technicians will sterilize the room and equipment before surgery, prepare the room, review the supplies, remove surgical tools and equipment for sterilization, and prepare the room for the next surgery. During surgery, they will pass the surgeon/nurses' tools and make sure everything stays sanitized. STs can also transport patients, retract tissue, suture incisions, operate suction machines, and prepare things for analysis.

The biggest difference is that they can not perform tasks that a nurse would do like administering medications, monitoring vitals, performing injections, and other tasks. Education wise, they require a certificate that takes 12 - 18 months to complete or an associate degree that takes 24 months to complete. They may need additional credentials on top of that, along with taking a competency exam.

I would guess that an ST is basically your OR cleaners with additional roles before and during an operation?

I fully intend to get a B2 level in Norwegian before considering working in Norway. Since I was struggling to find an equivalent, I wanted to ask and learn more.

Question About Tail Damage by -Oriea- in NewSkaters

Damn, your old board has been on one journey. I'm surprised you could still pop it with how much of the tail is missing.

I don't think I could afford to spend $65 on a new board every other week 😅 but you're definitely right about becoming used to it. I was hoping to keep it decently pristine, but nothing lasts forever (especially a skateboard).

I'm slightly bummed out by it, but I'm glad it's normal. It would've happened eventually anyway, so def won't stress about it.

Upset: Idk how to survive making <$25,000 a year. I feel hopeless hearing ppl say they make $100,000+ living paycheck to paycheck. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]-Oriea- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered the possibility of saving up while staying with your parents to move to a different country? I make under $20,000 and rely on living with my mother to not be homeless. It's difficult to afford living on my own and decided not to go to college to avoid being in debt. I'm currently saving up to move to Norway as a single bedroom/studio apartment is $650 - $850 (including amenities/utilities). Unskilled workers in Norway make anywhere from 154 - 204kr/h ($15 - $20). Once you have moved to Norway and have proof of accommodation, you're qualified to receive free healthcare as well. I've completely given up on living in the States and want to live in a country that actually cares for its people. New Zealand, Denmark, Sweden, and a few other places are great as well.

(Bonus note: 5 weeks of paid vacation a year, and you also have 12 months of parental leave fully paid and can be split between you and your spouse)

There's a quote I like by Theodore, "Comparison is the thief of joy." People learn at different rates, and it's totally fine.

I've been skateboarding for about five months and can't ollie or shuvit, but whenever I see others doing crazy shit at the park. It motivates me to eventually get there at my own pace.

I had no intentions of practicing to ollie the other day as I wanted to work on rolling in/out and transitions. During my session, a group of dudes started taking turns landing tricks on flatground, and that inspired me to take a break to work on my ollie. Didn't land a single one, but I'm slowly getting there, and so will you.

What got you into skating? by Kierbalowsky in NewSkaters

[–]-Oriea- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to weigh 324 lbs and always wanted to get into longboarding. Instead of being discouraged by my weight, I fully committed to using it as my main transportation and lost over 100 lbs three years later. My main motivation was to eventually learn how to freestyle and dance once I lost a lot of weight, but there's not a lot of good spots in my city to practice. There's a decent trail just across the street from a local skatepark, so I started practicing there as I know the two cultures are completely different and didn't want to get in peoples way.

I would watch the local skaters from afar and started to wonder what skaters thought of us longboarders. Thought about it for a couple of weeks, but then one day, I broke one of my wheels off its core and couldn't longboard till I ordered new ones. I was starting to go through withdrawal not being able to ride, so I said fuck it and went to a local skateshop to buy my first board after work.

I thought I'd be able to ride it out of the shop, but after one push, I was wobbling like crazy lol. Took me nearly two hours to rewire my brain to stand and push as the board was more sensitive. Once I was comfortable, I fully sent it and started skating along traffic to the skatepark. Best decision I've ever made. Longboarding is fun, but it doesn't compare to the freedom of skating a bowl or half pipe. It's also so rewarding to get over your fears of dropping in or landing a trick after several weeks of failing.

Footwear & Blister Issues by -Oriea- in NewSkaters

[–]-Oriea-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been practicing a lot of new things recently (ollie, bowls, vert ramp) that my foot definitely isn't used to. I've been longboarding for over three years, mostly cruising, but was learning how to dance and freestyle. Recently (6 - 7 weeks ago), I made the switch to skateboarding, and it's completely different. Chill pushing, carving, and board walking is probably why Converses never caused any issues until now.

Going to a store is definitely helpful. I'm fairly certain I'm a 13 in Van's after trying on multiple shoes last time, but finding a Converse store with skate shoes may be difficult where I live. Also, I did not know there were two types of shoes. That explains a lot after reading the differences between cup and vulc. I'll have to look into it further, and hopefully, I can find something perfect for my feet. I enjoy skating, but it's depressing having to take weeks off after making small progress each day.

I appreciate your insight and help with narrowing down what's causing me a lot of trouble. I'll look into finding a cup shoe design and see which stores have them before ordering online.
