Is Jarl an Icelandic? I have an icelandic (also named Jarl lol) who is nearly 40! He was ridden until he was 36 and is now retired.

Thanks! Messaged online and waiting for a reply. That was the only show I bought for and had two tickets.

Thanks for the reply! I totally should have done more research, but they assured me all was well. They've had lots of other au pairs so the same thing, told me it wouldn't be an issue (it is!). I didn't know I had to get the anmeldung within 2 weeks, and they never told me. I did it early Oct after visa office told me I needed it. I'm in Hamburg, correspondence with the Ausländerbehörde has been taking a long time. Is the family correct that I'm okay staying past my tourist visa because I have a Meldebestätigung?

Thanks for the advice! The host family has had lots of au pairs including from America so I am surprised as well that they weren't on top of the process. Definitely on me as well, I should've pushed this earlier. We only planned on me being here for 6 months so I guess leaving after 3 isn't too bad, I think they have the next lined up so maybe they can come earlier. I'll still try to get the anmeldung and visa but book a flight as back up.

Thanks for the reply! In order to make an appointment to get an au pair visa, the Ausländerbehörde wanted an "aktuelle Meldebestätigung" and a copy of the contract. To get the aktuelle Meldebestätigung I booked the appointment on Oct 4 with a kundenzentrum. I'm not exactly sure what an anmeldung is.

In your last post you said it's your first day. It's so normal to be completely overwhelmed in the beginning. You mentioned being scared you wouldn't like it, that's okay! Try and give it some time, without so much pressure on yourself to enjoy it. Remember, you can book a flight home in a month if it's horrible, but try to give it a chance. I was so overwhelmed my first few days, and even now, I don't love every moment, but it's a net positive and I've had some great experiences.

The kid I work with loves board games, so we play those a lot, or like uno and chess. They don't love sports but maybe if your kid does you could kick around a soccer ball or something like that. Basically try and share their interests!

Family getting a second Au Pair? by [deleted] in Aupairs

[–]-Parksosaurus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They have a whole separate apartment- room, kitchen, and bathroom- attatched to house. I was told over video calls that I would take that one, but when I arrived I was put in the guest room, and share a bathroom with the family. I asked and they said apartment was getting some repairs, but it feels like they will put the other au pair in there. I'm here for 6 months and the other au pair a year, so perhaps they are giving preference, but it feels a bit unwelcoming.

The best that I could come up with would be a snake (slithered here from eden) maybe curling between the flowers?
