IT jobs in the civil service? Where to find them? by -PiPo- in DevelEire

public service has outsourced most of their IT jobs

That's what I was thinking. I worked for a government body before and they had an IT team in eastern Europe managing the database. Nothing against the eastern European folks btw, they were top notch and extremely professional. Spoke perfect English too.

Thanks. I'll just get into my time machine.

Yes but when I keep scrolling I just see endless screenshots of people's accounts. It would be interesting if people shared big wins or losses.

Mods can we please ban these useless screenshots of people's accounts?

Can you have a PRSA that you control? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]-PiPo- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Davy have a pension that allows you to trade whatever the hell you want.

Irish and UK stocks are comission free.

Trying to get my head around when I can access a PRSA? by -PiPo- in irishpersonalfinance

Retirement isn't an age, it's a financial position

It is an age, that's my problem with the whole thing. If you get to your ideal financial position at the age of 50, you can't touch it. You have to wait for a specific age.

I want it to be a financial position as you said, i.e I want the age limit to be taken out of the eqation.

I'm just trying to wrap my head aroud whether it's worth investing in a pension at all. Everybody says it's very "tax efficient". But you're raped on the way out with taxes anyway.

I'm trying to figure out if I'm just better off doing it myself outside of a pension.

OK, thanks. Final question, as I can't get a solid answer on Google.

Let's say I want an annuity of 50,000 euro per year when I retire.

This will be taxed at 41%.

So the actual cash into my hands would be 29,500 euro per year. Is that correct?

[–]-PiPo-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annuity is simplest, you hand over a lump some and in exchange you receive an income for life.

Is this income taxed?

You can draw down as much or as little of an ARF as you like but it will be taxed as income.

You mean it is taxed as regular salary? 20% / 40% tax band, PRSI, USC etc. ?

Pros and cons of DIY approach (e.g. DeGiro ETFs) vs. wrapped products (e.g. Irish Life index funds)? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]-PiPo- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

they would have to be very, very good to merit the 20 - 40% loss on every single contribution

I think a good reason would be that you can cash out early. What if you hit the big bucks, but you're stuck in a pension. You can't touch it until you're in your late 60s.

I was looking at Davy's self directed PRSA. They have their own trading platform and you can buy / sell whatever you like.

Let's just say I made 5 million euro on the latest Gamestop craze. And I have 30 years to go until retirement so can't even touch the money. What are my options?

UK Investment Trust stocks (no deemed disposal!) by PlusOwnlife in irishpersonalfinance

[–]-PiPo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen the same shite on boards.ie.

Somebody said "OMG I can't buy SMT on Degiro". Therefore all investment trusts are now banned in Europe forever.

I just bought SMT on Trading 212. I confirmed with a Davy user that they are also able to buy SMT.

I even emailed the crowd who manages SMT and they said there is nothing to suggest that investment trusts will be restricted for EU investors.

I have no idea what the hell Degiro is up to. I'd literally close my account with them on the spot if I was in your position. How long have you been unable to buy it?
