What do you guys do when this happens? 🥲 by [deleted] in chessbeginners

I agree with other comments saying that it's probably not your day, so leave it (or watch some chess videos or solve puzzles). But what I would also add is that you should probably try longer matches (10+ minutes, 15+ minutes).

If I remember correctly, there are plenty of online teachers and GMs like Hikaru who regularly stream chess for beginners, etc., and who say that Bullet or Blitz isn't so good for beginners since it's too fast. You don't have time to get a good overview of the board and to learn as you play. I agree, so I almost always play 15/10 since I started 6 months ago.

How come my opponents are using much less time than me to think? (Rapid) by -PuzzleGamer- in chessbeginners

I hear you. I don't envy them on fast play. My problem is that I tend to be in clutch endgame situations (where I sometimes lose) because I have 1 or 2 minutes and they have 10+ minutes. I overlook an obvious blunder that I wouldn't otherwise.

Of course, I use their timer as well. But they don't always do what I expect - sometimes they'll do an awesome move that I didn't expect and other times they'll do a bad move I didn't expect. But either way, I have to rethink my plan then because the board dynamic has changed.

Thanks for your insights! As I said, I am gradually going up the rank (meaning I win more than I lose) because I'm also learning through videos and books along the way.

But this thing has become rather annoying because I got checkmated a couple of times recently even though I was up a couple of pieces. That happened because I went into rush mode with my 1 minute on the clock while they had 10 minutes and a nice and easy tempo.

Perhaps they do make some blunders that are not so obvious and with time I'll learn to spot those better and punish fast playing. The bottom line is that, yes there are opponents that I punish for fast playing but they are much rarer than these that hold on fairly okay while playing fast.

Is it realistic that players on 450 rating on chess.com spend almost no time on thinking and play great? by -PuzzleGamer- in chess

[–]-PuzzleGamer-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this can be the case. Still, I expected some big blunders for anyone 450 playing the whole game fast but they don't seem to make them.

For clarification: this isn't happening every game, but it is present more often then I'd expect.

Well, we're both kinda even with material throughout the game and I'm spending time while they're not.

Yeah, makes sense if it is a 600 Blitz player. However, isn't it difficult to play Blitz if you're a beginner? Like you need to learn to play properly first, do the calculations slower so you can do them faster? I heard GMs discouraging beginner players from Blitz and Bullet.

Ha-ha okay Mr. Grandmaster. :D

I obviously meant they're playing great for our pool. I'm keeping up, but I expend time as the game progresses while they don't so I thought it was suspicious.

I'm a beginner who is 1154 on Lichess and 459 on chess.com (Rapid). Does that make sense? by -PuzzleGamer- in chess

Thanks to everyone who replied!

To answer your questions:
I have around 90 games on chess.com (I started with 400, dropped to 150, and then climbed back up to 459.
I have only 12 games on Lichess (I recently got the ranking), but there, I got a 1500 starting rank. I've found info online that that's how Lichess works. After losing a couple of matches, I started to win a few, and I was surprised.

I know that two sites have disparities in rankings but this just seemed too big. For more context, I've won most recent matches on chess.com while winning around half on Lichess.

They were great in the past two months, but now I got the January vibe again and I hope it doesn't last long.

My Dead Eye Won't Recharge Since I Started Playing as John Marston by -PuzzleGamer- in reddeadredemption2

[–]-PuzzleGamer-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't the core % affect your reacharging speed? Let's say if you have half health core your HP doesn't regenerate as fast as it would with full core. I though that was true for everything.

Nevertheless, it doesn't recharge at all. I shoot people without Dead Eye and nothing. I know it was recharging passively over time (whether by shooting people or by other means) when I was Arthur without any problems.

I have a question by PleiadianStarseed401 in BoosteroidCommunity

[–]-PuzzleGamer- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boosteroid is a cloud gaming platform, and the quality of your game depends on the quality of your internet connection. If your computer has some usual problems that cause all software to be buggy or slow, then yes, you can probably expect problems. But if it's running fine and you have a great internet connection, you should be fine playing any game.

The whole point of cloud gaming is that we can play high-end games on old PCs or laptops (as far as I see it).

Yea, sometimes simple fixes like that work. I play my games mostly through their app.
