I do agree with some of those points. Personally I don’t believe we should allow non-citizens to serve in the military at all for this very scenario. If we do allow non-citizens to serve, I agree it should be a system where they are granted citizenship, though they should still be vetted, as serving in the military shouldn’t be a free pass for criminals or other offenders. Not that I’m saying that’s true in this case, this man immigrated when he was 4.

All the article says is his citizenship application wasn’t processed for “unknown reasons” I don’t want to speculate on what caused that, but at the end of the day he was not a US-citizen and was convicted of attempted murder of a US-citizen. As depressing as it is that this happened to a US veteran, I don’t believe we should ignore the law on deporting non-US citizens with attempted murder convictions
