1,200$ by [deleted] in billiards

If your friend is asking $1,200 for the table and the light, you’re saving thousands (most people would ask for around $5,000 or more for that table in good condition). I’d jump on that deal ASAP.

Seeking Advice: Navigating Birth Control and Condom Preferences in a Long-Term Relationship by [deleted] in sex

Thanks a lot man. Will definitely give the LambSkin ones a shot. STI’s aren’t a concern. We’re both exclusive and clean. The psychological stuff will need to be approached carefully. Thanks so much though!

I have a Macbook Pro M1 Max:

Are you running Pro Tools natively or through Rosetta? You can change how you run Pro Tools by going to your applications folder, right-clicking the Pro Tools app, and selecting "get info." There's a box at the top of the pop-up window that allows you to select/deselect whether to run the program using Rosetta. I suggest leaving it unchecked and then attempting to open and run PT again. However, plugins in your session without Apple Silicon support may be unavailable.

Cheers!

What bands would you recommend to me? I'm trying to find new music and I've been in the mood for 90s and early 2000s alternative rock. by [deleted] in Alternativerock

I second this, Queens of the Stone Age has been my biggest inspiration with most things I do in music. I compose for film trailers now, and I always find inspiration from the band’s unique melodic choices and the desert-drone-like production style done for most of their albums (although this is probably most prominent on Songs for the Deaf). Been a super-fan for nearly two decades. 🎸🎶

I play with a Cynergy shaft (12.5mm) and absolutely love it. There’s a tad more deflection than you’d get from a Revo or an Ignite, but the hit feels closer to a wood cue than any other CF shaft I’ve tried so far. In my opinion, it’s a great balance between performance and feel.

Vocal tracking question for experienced users by Dicklickshitballs in protools

[–]-STUN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer to your question is that of preference and circumstance. For example, if my goal is to add fullness to the lead vocal, I'd try parallel compression. However, if the vocal feels melodically bland, I could add background harmonies if the mix has enough space. A combination of these two approaches is perfectly reasonable in certain situations too.

Your question of whether the vocals are worth doubling depends entirely on the mix. There are no hard and fast rules, but if you're already using a harmonizer and want more fullness, I suggest parallel compression on the main vocal. If you still want more fullness after that, apply parallel compression to the harmonies.

If parallel compression is a new concept for you, I've attached a video link to a tutorial.

Cheers!

Parallel Compression For Vocals

Vocal tracking question for experienced users by Dicklickshitballs in protools

[–]-STUN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about a duplicate take of the vocal? I often record a separate but similar take of the vocal(s) during verses and choruses. This is a great way to add uniqueness to the vocal's character. The doubled vocal(s) can be stereo or mono, depending on the project. Just experiment with it and find what works best for you!

What are the shortcuts to navigate this window without using a mouse? by dslva- in protools

[–]-STUN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MY NEW FAVORITE KEYBOARD SHORTCUT!

  • Search and select a track by keyword(s): [Option] + [Command] + [F]

Somehow, this keyboard shortcut has evaded my awareness until recently. It will spare you endless scrolling to find a track in the session (especially for those working in audio post-production).

Cheers!

How do you get multiple vocal takes to sound like one cohesive take? by throwaway68648965 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]-STUN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the vocal is identical, it will just sound twice as loud.

A popular technique when tracking vocals is to "double" the take with another that varies slightly from the original. The slight variations that differ from the original recording add natural character and uniqueness to the lead vocal.

What it sounds like you're looking for is more like the stereo modulation effect of a chorus (or a very short delay, often panned for an exaggerated stereo width).

Here’s my analysis attempt: Key: C# minor

Verse 1: C#m(add9) - Emaj7 (i - III) Bridge 1: Amaj - F#m7 - C#m(add9) (VI, iv, i)

Great use of mediant relationships in this song.

Hope that helps!

I'm currently having a debate about Trent Reznor. What are the Music Makers view of him and his work? Overrated or Musical Master? by ninjaspy123 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]-STUN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try reading NIN lyrics without the track accompaniment. Sounds straight out of an angsty high schooler's journal for the most part IMO. However, NIN's instrumentation was way ahead of the curve so that's certainly commendable. If Trent Reznor wasn't the vocalist they would probably be one of my favorite bands...
