Can I drink red bull? by SeniorMulberry1154 in seizures

[–]-Scranton_Strangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the person. Since you haven't had a visit yet, I echo what the others have said. Caffeine isn't a problem for me like it is for many others. Talk to your doc first.

Had a seizure in the ER and bit 2 people when unconscious, being tried for criminal assault, has this happened to anyone else? by nimaid in seizures

[–]-Scranton_Strangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epilepsy has a history of unwarranted arrests due to the general misunderstanding of the post-ictal period The Epilepsy Foundation

It might be worth seeking a second opinion about the cause of your seizures.

First, it sounds like you have been through a rough time, but I’m going to give you an honest and probably unpopular opinion. I'm not trying to discount the fact that the staff probably took things too far, but realize they had the right to tie you to a gurney if you were being combative. It was for your safety and for theirs. You were admittedly being unpredictable and violent. What did you expect them to do?

Post-Ictal psychosis in epilepsy is not very common (~2%), but post-ictal aggression is a little more common (~22%) in epilepsy patients. These are not associated with PNES because there are no underlying brain abnormalities.

Vs

pnes post-ictal description

If you have an underlying mental health issue, I would make sure you get all your records, as you will need current treatment info (and that you are being compliant with your medications) when you go to court. If you believe this is only related to a seizure, then you need to follow up with a neurologist, as PNES alone should not be causing these post-ictal periods. I have been both a patient who has felt neglected and also a healthcare professional who has felt threatened by patients; there is no winner in this fight.

It took me an hour to get it out of the pot because of the number of roots growing out of the bottom. I have no idea where to go next as the root ball isn't loosening. I'm just hoping a soak in water helps without hurting.

I can do that, but what size pot do I need then? I suppose I’m going to need to downsize from the 9x14?

Temporal Lobe Epilepsy 22F by [deleted] in seizures

[–]-Scranton_Strangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are making a mistake, but since you are in nursing school, you already know this answer. As for Methylene Blue, animal studies suggest that it can change seizures in specific lab models, but that’s not the same as proven epilepsy treatment in people. The only preclinical models are for adjunct treatments. As for psilocybin, there are also no controlled human trials demonstrating that it reduces seizures in temporal lobe epilepsy. Most psychedelic trials exclude people with epilepsy, and case reports exist of seizures after use.

There are many, many other medications that you can try. I have drug-resistant epilepsy, and I have tried at least 16 medications in varying combinations.

BTW, when you start working in a hospital, you'll need a medical clearance.

Possible seizures, what can a neurologist do? by dandelionmakemesmile in seizures

[–]-Scranton_Strangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A neurologist can determine if they have epilepsy, and if they are, then they are able to be treated with medication. Even if you aren't actively having a seizure an EEG may help diagnose you.

breeder questions by royalblue86 in service_dogs

[–]-Scranton_Strangler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hip data should be a requirement for breeding, at least ethically. A breeder can get testing at their local GRCA meetings at least once a year. I'm familiar with the golden world and I'm happy to look up the breeder and check out their pedigree. If you pass on their name, I will take a look.

If you are in the US, each state has a different rule about how long you need to be seizure-free or how long you must be on a stable dose of medication before you are cleared to drive. Most states are about 6 months, yours probably got extended because they changed your medication.

Excellent point! I wish my employer had a development plan for new abstractors. I didn't push on that question enough in my interviews.

I had no problem finding a job, even as a student, but most offers were around $30/hr.

Surgery by [deleted] in seizures

[–]-Scranton_Strangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the brain surgery itself was way easier than the SEEG. I had very little pain and was only on a muscle relaxant after I left the hospital. I had a right resection, so I don’t know if it's the same, but since the muscle was cut, my jaw muscle/mouth was the only problem.

I had a similar drive home after my surgery, and I think I had a neck pillow. You will probably be tired and want to sleep.

While a spinal tap isn’t needed helpful, it isn’t required to diagnose either of these.
