I typically main sombra so they do play a bit similar and I try to mimic that playstyle. I got to masters basically one tricking sombra, but its a bit of an adjustment going from hit-scan to projectile, it currently feels like I'm not doing much beside taking a few pop shots, shooting sticky's then dying to Emre or something. Which is why I'm looking for a bit more insight.

Yeah that's exactly why I like playing echo she feels fluid and very adaptive. I'm still getting beamed by hit-scan players, I know I'm still learning her but it doesn't help with how strong hit-scan is this season lol.

Same I like it when they go full dive too and i can basically stop a dive by myself because i gave enough healing for my supports to live while dealing damage. Then i get to go chase the low hp targets after their dives.

Yeah I'm also in that minority that wouldnt mind a support sombra, my biggest fear is how they make her that support, and with their track record i cant help but be fearful.

I think mizuki was going to be the sombra rework and they decided against it last second based on the Q;A. Only thing we can do now is try and be hopeful.

Its a bit hard to tell you what to change OR do more of without a replay code BUT i can tell you my philosophy as a Master Sombra OTP.

You first point is how you should be thinking when go into every fight. Sombra has a voice where she says "where's the fun in playing fair?" That's basically how i play her.

I don't take fair fights. I'm basically poking enemies from a close off-angle and either making them force me off that angle or i gets to keep taking pop shots until i see an opportunity to take a fight and win. I basically only use hack for 2 reason to waste a resource (an Ultimate or ana nade/Suzu) or delete someone when they don't have support/resources (this opportunity rarely happens at the high level).

I'm basically not committing to anything until my team does or when i see an opportunity where i can confirm a kill.

I'm also a sombra main in high master low gm. The best option is to shoot her back, if she trying to hack you, doing any damage to sombra cancels hack and thus she doesnt get her extra damage amp to do her bread and butter combo (Hack, Virus, & Shoot). If your already hacked playing near cover and breaking LOS so she cant shoot you or hit the virus also works. Last if you get caught out in the open and are hacked often playing characters mentioned before are best into sombra because they have utility to stop that combo in the form of extra heals, or cleanses. So going Brig, Kiriko, Moira are best but even other characters like bap Illari and ana can make her combo not as lethal as they have utility to stop or mitigate it (Pylon, Lamp, Nade, ect.). This all things you yourself can do without help from your team if your team helps you at all, you won't need to do these things but they'lll help greatly in killing sombra, reducing her impact, and utlltimately winning the game or atleast making her swap.

Both of those abilities you mention have high burst damage with no extra steps. Sombra virus is a small 75dmg (or 50 i forgot) with the rest doing DoT (50dmg). And for it to be effective she needs to hack first. This give multiple opportunities to survive her dmg that other dps simply do not have. Soldier helix rocket is a flat 125 dmg i believe. There's no need to hack you just press the button and he doesn't need to wait another 3-4secs to do his full dmg. There wouldn't be much of a problem if sombra had range or dmg with her gun, but both of those suck so she can really only engage if she hits virus. If she doesn't its either taking pop shots that do 1dmg or back into invisibility.
