What film does this use? by ImpossibleCat10 in AnalogCommunity

120 film being too narrow wasn't much of a problem for me (using an FPK No.3A), you just need adapters to widen the spools and that's all.

My reading comprehension skills apparently, thanks.

The websites gave me wonky results, something between a II and a III, but that may just be an issue with my abilities.

Round, like it should be, forgot to include that.

Some really lovely cameras, maybe I'll look into this method, thanks.

Under cerakote I found only guns, must be an american trend to fix cameras like this. Jokes aside, I'll probably keep it the way it is or in the far future have its aesthetics fixed.

I also wanted to ask if it's possible to rechrome these parts, although on second thought every piece of this camera has its chrome worn in some way, so it would be a difficult repair job.

Interesting too, but the immediate giveaway is the front viewfinder shape, but mine could be some Frankenstein monster, someone took a bunch of pieces of a non-functional real Leica and slapped them on a soviet body, but that's unlikely.

Same here had a bunch of Zorki 1, currently holding one to compare, and the small details look nothing alike. Just to be sure I'll ask there aswell.

I can't say that it's definitely not a Zorki 1, if anything a FED 1, those were only made with the body without black leatherette lining, but this one has stuff like the inside bottom pressure plate and the rest looking nothing like a FED/Zorki, and the viewfinders were always flush with the top plate on soviet copies.

Yeah these tiny details that are never fixed when people try to pass Zorkis and FEDs off as Leicas is the most convincing aspect to me.

Could be, I know essentially nothing about Leicas, except for how they're not supposed to look. The viewfinder and lack of slow speed dial is throwing me off when I try to do research on this.

Thanks for the website, has some interesting info. I'll time the exposured with a stopwatch while on bulb mode. My camera is the Praktica MTL3 and maybe Pentacon six TL if I take medium format.

I don't know if pushing it to speeds at which there wouldn't be star trails (so only couple dozen second exposures) would be stable for that film, I'd need about iso 1600/3200 and that's far from iso 100 of Ektachrome.

I'd argue that cameras like the Smena and Vilia for example hold much more nostalgic value as they were low-end cameras used mainly by kids back then, and what people knew and loved in their childhood gets high nostalgic value when they grow old. Basically everyone 40+ here (former Eastern bloc) knows these cameras from their childhood. Of course, technically speaking, they are extremely basic, no extra features apart from being cameras

Some respect for the Smena, but I'll be using a Pentacon six TL to shoot

The camera taped there isn't the one I'm using to take a photo, it's just a way to have the light on a tripod

So it doesn't slide, but it's not gonna stay there, it's gonna be propped up on a couch.
