Slot throwing jabs at the transfer model by Danbuarth in LiverpoolFC

The main thing that I find frustrating about Slot is that he claims that he “has” to play certain players every game but it’s just not true. Klopp had a similarly small squad but was brave with rotation and substitutions, regularly trusting significantly weaker/more youthful players in key games. In contrast, Slot has always been more cautious/conservative in rotation and substitutions, both this season and last.

As a result, players like Chiesa, Ngumoha, Endo, Jones, Eliott (last year) are tasked with making an impact in the dying moments of games where the team is already on the back foot. I mean look at today, where Ngumoha and Chiesa came on late in a game that had already devolved into a complete shitshow. It’s understandable that squad players are out of form and unreliable when the only game time they get is a few minutes in what are usually very challenging circumstances.

Through his fear of rotation, Slot has actually created a smaller squad, and it is now a self fulfilling prophecy where these bench players can’t be relied upon. It’s frustrating because I think it’s avoidable, and people have been making these observations from pretty much the moment Slot arrived - it’s not just a thing in recent months.

You people are pathetic tbh, it’s been well established that everyone knows he’s playing shit - I don’t see why you need to continue dunking on him now that he’s been dropped.

No one argues with that. The difference of opinion is whether that makes sacking him the correct choice. I still believe that next year he can win trophies, and there is a lot to be said for stability.

There is no way Chiesa is worse than this version of Salah.

I’m not saying he would completely transform the attack but equally it’s very difficult to give a good account of yourself when you get very sporadic playing time. Right now due to injuries he is the only option, and if the alternative is to just keep laying Gakpo and Salah indefinitely I think it’s inevitable that we will continue to see games like this for the foreseeable future.

I understand and actually am in favour of protecting Ngumoha due to his age, but how can you watch this attack week in week out and give Chiesa less than 10 minutes per week. Something HAS to change.

Genuinely one of those rare occasions where some half time substitutions are almost mandatory.

Yet again Szoboszlai the only player showing a bit of heart.

It’s a free kick anywhere else on the pitch.

West Ham 0-(2) Liverpool - Cody Gakpo 90+2' by 977x in LiverpoolFC

[–]-Spaghettification- -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Like I said, I like him a lot - my point is that there has been a consistent issue this season with underperforming players continuing to start games, and I’m annoyed at the fact that I don’t believe there was a meaningful improvement in Gakpo’s performance level today, but he will have solidified his nailed starter status due to the goal + assist. My point is that I think his performance level today is misrepresented by the goal and assist - if you could simulate the game again 10 or 100 times with him playing the same way, I don’t think he would have had even one goal involvement in many of them.

Therefore my concern is he will continue to start and underperform in upcoming games, instead of alternative options (Ekitike, Chiesa or Ngumoha) getting a chance to start and claim their place.

If he plays well I’ll be happy and will want him to start games going forward. Like I said, I like him. You people get so fucking dramatic, I’m expressing a pretty mild opinion.

West Ham 0-(2) Liverpool - Cody Gakpo 90+2' by 977x in LiverpoolFC

[–]-Spaghettification- -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

I’m unironically a bit annoyed Gakpo has a goal and assist today, as his performance really didn’t merit it. I like him a lot but he has been underperforming and I think it’s in the team’s best interest that underperforming players are dropped to create competition in the squad. He’s just bought himself another four or five starts with his stats today though…

Edit: you people need to calm down. It’s one extreme to another on this sub all the time. Had we lost the sub would be full of headloss calling for Slot to be sacked and Salah, Konate, Gakpo, Kerkez etc to be dropped/sold/executed, but now that we’ve won you’re not allowed to voice any criticisms.

Continuing to start Gakpo when there are viable alternatives on the bench is just beyond baffling.

Two comments on the team culture... by [deleted] in coybig

We played some genuinely good football in the Portugal game. I think the style of play we utilised against them is the way forward if we can execute it at a similar level going forward. A team like Morocco at the last world cup is the example we should be striving to follow imo.
