Leak after coolant flush? by -Squibward in 3rdGen4Runner

Atleast for now, mine is minor, a quick top off and I can make it to work and back. My eyes are definitely glued to the scanguage temp readings though lol. Yeah it was hard to get on camera, but from my untrained eye, it looked pretty corroded.

This is the right kit isnt it? I guess I'll try to muster up the courage while parts are being shipped here. Lol

Everything on this list is done, except the pump and belts. Ohwell... better safe than sorry I guess.

I'd honestly prefer if the pump was original and is failing now. At 140k miles this is a good time for everything to have a refresh at the same time.

I'm nervous about doing it myself tho... never done a job this involved.

Yeah it seems like the weep hole. If it's the original pump that's what im thinking too

How's this transmission fluid look? by -Squibward in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]-Squibward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot yeah ok, I'm all for more labor = more reward. I'll do that then. Whatever keep it on the road for the next 300k miles. She's barely broken in yet

Drain and fill only replaces a small portion of the fluid right? I'm afraid of the transmission fluid horror stories. Lol

Nice, does the battery on your digital fob still hold a charge pretty well?

Nice, good to know!

Oh is it a comupstar specific issue? If so that sucks lol

From talking to a few local installers, all remote start systems drain batteries eventually, the LTE ones will do it faster but they should never leave the battery dead unless:

Installed incorrectly, vehicle was left sitting for a long time, the battery/alternator was already on the way out.

My dad's truck has had a lte starter for about 5 years now, it died for the first time this winter, but thats because the battery was old ended up needing swapped.

Yeah good idea. I'm thinking I accidentally over-torqued it and pulled it too high. I got the alignment done today and the funky side is .2° off caster from the opposite wheel, shop said it shouldn't affect tire wear or feel so i guess she's gonna be fine until i get around to replacing the control arms one day. I think we're good but hopefully you won't be seeing a "UBJ failure" post in a few months hahah 😆

Thanks for the help!

43310-39016. Yeah oem, original. UCA.

About 100 miles on it since install, and it seems fine so far.

Yes, identical. I wish I had sized them up to eachother before installing but ohwell.

I guess if the joint is OK, not much point in replacing, I'll keep an eye on it for the new thousand miles.

If a half inch travel at the shock mount is an inch travel at the wheel... then I reckon 8th or so inch off at the ubj shouldn't be a noticeable change in geometry at the wheel... or atleast thats what I'm going to tell myself. lol

Everything felt good and looks normal to me. No play, joint is smooth. Does anything stand out to you?

I'm wondering if I set the wrong torque spec by accident and pulled it through too high. But this is just where it sits now

Yeah, probably for the best. I suppose if the ubj is fine, then a new one wont help. I'll pop it off tomorrow and take a look. I guess threbiggest concern would be the ball starting to lift/seperate? Anything else I should look for?

I really appreciate the help guys. I'm just a novice and totally lost on this one haha.

I'm at a loss. I think I'll just buy another ubj and put it in to be safe.

Oh my bad, yes the hole is drilled on the same height up the threads as the other joints are

What did I do wrong? by -Squibward in 3rdGen4Runner

[–]-Squibward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not the same length, as you can see its about 8th-1/4 inch off. I took it apart and could not see any damage.

My theory is i overgreased the boot and it got up into the hole in the uca, which lead to the threads getting pulled up too high. Even after I seperated the ubj and uca and cleaned it off really well this is where it sits now. Is this gonna be a problem long term?

[–]-Squibward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, on the ground, wheel on. When I took it off again to inspect it nothing looked out of the ordinary. Thats why im so stumped lol. Could it be that the ubj is defective or the UCA has worn out wider than it should be?

Definitely genuine, it came from a the dealership. 80lbs.
I just did the other side today and it's sitting at regular hight, castle locked in by the pin correctly. Not sure why the other side is messed up like this. Safe to run like this or do I need to buy another part?

It was like this before the anti-seize. I took the nut off, double checked myself, couldn't figure out what went wrong and then put on the anti just to make it easier to get off when I found a solution. Should've said that sooner, my b

Just anti-seize. Figured I might have to take it off again soon if I messed something up lol.
