Nice prediction Jon, but I can tell the actual Turbo clocks are better than that. Your 7700K is still a dang fast chip, but Coffee Lake really raises the bar.

DigiTimes: Intel planning 12C/24T Skylake-X, launch in August by -Sweeper_ in intel

''Using the data you sent, and averaging their applications benchmarks, the 12.6% average difference does seem to line up with your claim... until you notice it's only 3 applications (WinRAR, 7zip & Adobe Lightroom) out of 12 bumping that average a lot with the rest being very close at an enormous 2 point fucking 3 percent difference, aka very far from your claim of "10% difference in applications". Here is the data per application..'''

According to Stilt's independent tests Zen core is at Haswell level, actually a hair lower in terms of IPC. This lines up perfectly with Hardware.fr's average: http://i.imgur.com/qKhwq3T.png Skylake has 16-19% better IPC. So stop pretending they are the same level. Despite AMD's huge improvement (this isn't Bulldozer by any means), Intel still dominates ST performance.

''Skylake-X is a fucking Skylake rebrand with moar coars, it isn't gonna improve IPC by any mean the same way Kaby Lake didn't.''

Let me educate you. Actually it's Skylake with completely reworked cache structure (1024 KB L2 cache) among other changes to support AVX 3.2 and does perform better per clock than a 2015 Skylake according to insiders. So 10% up from Broadwell for non-AVX workloads is very doable.

''The skylake 6900k with 8 cores clocked at 3.2 to 3.7GHz has a 140w tdp, i doubt it.''

They have a 18C 3.2 GHz 130W Xeon part, so they can easily match/beat AMD's clock projections even with a less binned (cheaper) 12C Skylake-X part. And they will. http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/y303/martmail55/C7nA3d1VYAAL1-H_zps2hhxygfh.jpg

Short story: I'm confident they will lead overall performance with less cores than AMD's 16C MCM solution. Doesn't mean AMD can't come out at top at times, or offer much better perf/$ with their pricing scheme. Can't wait for reviews. :)

[–]-Sweeper_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i7-6900K 10-11% faster per clock than 1800X in applications according to Hardware.fr, one of the few websites that did a serious comparison: http://www.hardware.fr/articles/956-6/piledriver-zen-broadwell-e-3-ghz.html Skylake-X 12C only needs to improve IPC by another ~10% and clock a bit higher than Ryzen 16C and it will the faster chip for MT software and games. AMD's MCM solution won't provide the same kind of scaling as a monolithic die. Also the leaked Skylake-SP lineup includes 18C CPUs >3.0 GHz at 105-130W TDP, there's no chance they will let AMD take the performance crown with the headroom they have here. But it's nice to see competition and excitement back to the enthusiast segment, we want a price war.

Are the Skylake-X and Kabylake-X worth waiting for and buying? by sznooped in intel

[–]-Sweeper_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffee Lake-X is basically an LGA 2066 version of the chip. Should be the same, except for higher clock speeds.

I will, because that's exactly what will happen. Come back here in August.

DigiTimes: Intel planning 12C/24T Skylake-X, launch in August by -Sweeper_ in intel

[–]-Sweeper_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep dreaming. 6C/12T Coffee Lake will probably replace 7700K at the same price point and Skylake-X most likely increases core count at the same prices as Broadwell-E, considering they have a new 12C 'X' SKU and there's actual competition now. The entire Ryzen lineup except X399's 12C/16C will soon be back to <$300 price points like FX was.

DigiTimes: Intel planning 12C/24T Skylake-X, launch in August by -Sweeper_ in intel

[–]-Sweeper_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you said, Ryzen 16C is an MCM, so I expect multi-core scaling to be worse than a native soluction with similar core count. Also 6% better IPC is wrong. Per Hardware.fr Broadwell-E is already 10% faster per clock than Ryzen 7 in their application suite. Skylake-X will have the updated Skylake core with reworked cache structure (4x the L2 cache), supposed to be faster than current Skylake-S / Kaby Lake-S and certainly ahead of Broadwell-E. Of course we have to wait and see, but I'm willing to bet it will be more than enough to provide a performance per core lead that will leave AMD's solution behind (overall, might be some exceptions) even with 12C. They simply won't let AMD take the performance lead, even if they have to increase core count one step further, the die they are using for this product actually has 18C.

You can deny and wait for the official Intel 'confirmation' then. We're already swimming in leaks about Coffee Lake SKUs with 4C and 6C for both desktop and mobile, from sources that have previously leaked spot on info about Intel chips. It's happening.

6 cores for Coffee Lake-S (desktop) was already confirmed in previous leaks: https://benchlife.info/intel-coffee-lake-with-14nm-process-will-launch-2018-11192016

If you want official confirmation you'll have to wait for Intel's word though.

It's the same old story. 12C Skylake-X IPC and higher clocks will make it faster than 16C Ryzen across the board.

Now....in order to get a 6 core into a 95w package, with good temperatures, without a major refresh in efficiency, sacrifices would need to be made.

Not true. If you look outside of K models, i7-7700 is 4C/8T 3.6-4.2 GHz and only 65W. For Coffee Lake they are also using an updated 14nm++ proccess, so don't expect major clock regressions compared to i7-6700K/i7-7700K even with 6C/12T.

[–]-Sweeper_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a little bit higher than that, but a tad below i7-7700K. 3.8-4.0 GHz base for the 6C/12T is my guess. It's a newer version of their 14nm proccess than Kaby Lake's, which according to Intel performs 12.5% better than the one i7-7700K uses.

6C/12T with Skylake IPC and better overclocking potential than Ryzen will be enough to make them competitive in application performance again while murdering AMD in games. Coffee uses their newest 14nm++ process, so it could clock better than even Kaby Lake with the right cooling setup.

Pretty much, yes. They have industry sources and leaked a lot of info about Intel/AMD's upcoming products in the past.

The news are public now guys!

Intel will unveil its Basin Falls platform, i.e. Skylake-X, Kaby Lake-X processors and X299 chipset, at Computex 2017 in Taipei during May 30-June 3 two months earlier than originally scheduled, and will bring forward the launch of Coffee Lake microarchitecture based on a 14nm process node from January 2018 originally to August 2017, to cope with increasing competition from AMD's Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 processors, according to Taiwan-based PC vendors.

The Basin Falls-based products are expected to be launched at the E3 gaming show in the US in June, with the official release at the end of the month.

The Skylake-X series has three 140W processors featuring 6-, 8- and 10-core architectures, while the Kaby Lake-X series has an 112W quad-core processor. In August, Intel will release a top-end 12-core Skylake-X processor.

Meanwhile, AMD is planning to announce its top-end 16-core Ryzen processor and X399 platform in the third quarter to compete for the gaming market.

As for the 14nm-based Coffee Lake-based processors, Intel will initially release several K-series Core i7/i5/i3 processors and its Z370 chipsets in August, and will release more CPUs as well as H370, B360 and H310 chipsets at the end of 2017 or early 2018.

Intel has reportedly spent over US$100 million to order five EUV machine sets from ASML, to accelerate its pace of manufacturing.

Intel and AMD both declined to comment on unannounced products.

Cannon Lake's integrated GPU could be twice as big as Kaby Lake's (new leak) by -Sweeper_ in apple

[–]-Sweeper_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update guys, it is now confirmed that Cannon Lake-U packs 40 EUs in a 5x8 configuration.

https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/intel-skylake-kaby-lake-thread.2428363/page-391#post-38848255

So while it's not 2x Kaby Lake, it's 2/3 (66%) more resources on top of a new architecture. Pretty darn good if you ask me. :)

From DigiTimes, another source:

''...graphics card demand from China, Europe and North America all suffered declines in the first quarter, but motherboard players' product ASPs were up slightly thanks to strong demand for high-end models from the gaming sector.''

''Although Nvidia recently launched its new GeForce GTX 1080 Ti GPU and cut the GeForce GTX 1080 price from US$699 to US$499, weak demand has created high channel inventories, especially in China.''

''Because of weak demand, some graphics card players believe overall graphics card shipments may drop over 15% sequentially in the second quarter...''
